In ancient Israel the basic law for manslaughter was "3 plus 3 cities of refuge"
Please read Deuteronomy 19:1-13. And Numbers 35:9-28.
I doubt your laws will apply this law for ancient Israel, Mr. Pistorius to live in a city and never leave until you die.
The person in ancient Israel had a type of jail sentence, but a town where he could still be productive for society.
So you have many choices of course under your laws.
Here is one you might like to consider. Mr. Pistorius does week-end prison [not a hard criminal prison] for a year, the rest of the 5 days he can do productive work to serve society, with ex number of hours of community service during that year.
I still hope and pray that the two sides can come together with love and forgiveness on the part of the parents of the young lady killed.
It is clear Mr. Pistorius and the young lady loved each other; it has to be heartbreaking [I can only try to imagine if it was me] for Mr.Pistorius and something that he will have to live with all his life.
It is time for both sides to work towards healing together. It's time for all three to cry together. My prayer is they will.
It is a terrible lesson to learn in being too scared, to rash, and as they say too "trigger happy."
Forgiveness and love is the only way to heal from this horrible happening, but without it, all persons will continue through their life to bitter their souls and never find peace.
I pray all will find peace. We are human with our flaws and mistakes we make.....but forgiveness and love as the good book says, covers a
multitude of sins.
