OUR DAILY BREAD #4

Our Daily Bread #4

For daily Strength

                             HIS GOOD PURPOSE

Read: Romans 8:28-29

All things work together for good to those who love God. - Romans
8:28

Romans 8:28 - how easily and how often this Bible reference
rolls off our tongues! But perhaps we need to grasp more fully
what this verse is really saying.
Randy Alcon, in a book he has co-authored with his wife
Nanci, offers some insights on Romans 8:28. He quotes the New
American Standard Bible translation of this verse: "God
- causes all things to work together for good." Randy points out
that it doesn't say each individual thing is good, but that God
works them together for good.
Recalling his boyhood days, Randy tells how he often watched
his mother bake cakes. One day when she had all the ingredients
set out - flour, sugar, baking powder, raw egg, vanilla - he
sneaked a taste of each one. Except for the sugar, they all
tasted horrible. Then his mother stirred them together and put
the batter in the oven. "It didn't make sense to me," he recalls,
"that the combination of individually distasteful things produced
such a tasty product."
Randy concludes that God likewise "takes all the undesirable
messes in our lives, mixes them together, puts them under the
heat of crisis, and produces a perfect result."
Let's look beyond our circumstances and remember that God
has an ultimate good purpose. - Joanie Yoder

                            TROUBLE IN THE LAND

Read: Joel 1

Cry out to the Lord. - Joel 1:14

And we think we have trouble! It's easy to lose the right
perspective when we look at our world and see the way things are
going. In some places people are struggling to survive, while
in others they are busy killing each other.
If the difficulties of the past few years make us wistful
for the good old days, we haven't read about the really old days
Joel was talking about.
Here's what Judah was up against: A relentless hoard of
locusts had ravaged the land. The vineyards were so damaged that
the priests couldn't even squeeze out a drink offering. The fig,
pomegranate, palm, and apple trees were all ruined. The entire
agricultural base, which was the lifeblood of the Judean economy,
was wiped out. Indeed, as Joel described it, "Joy has withered
away from the sons of men" (1:12). At a time when many must have
been shaking their fists at God for allowing such devastation,
Joel told the people that it was time to go into the house of the
Lord and cry out to Him.
That is always the answer when there is trouble in the land,
our only recourse is to turn to God, call out to Him, and trust
Him without fail. No matter what calamity strikes today, that
should be our number one strategy.
Do we daily "cry out to the Lord"? - Dave Branon

There is only One who knows All the answers to my woes; He will
all my needs supply; When in faith to Him I cry. - Anon.

PRAYER IS THE CHILD'S HELPLESS CRY TO THE FATHER'S ATTENTIVE EAR.

                                  SHARK!

Read: Job 1

Submit to God, Resist the Devil and he will flee from you. -
James 4:7

     A 16-foot shark left a couple of 2 inch-long teeth and more
than 30 gashes in a small Japanese fishing boat. According to a
news release out of Tokyo, the boat was occupied by a lone
71-year-old fisherman who beat off the attacking shark with a
long wooden pole. "I thought I was going to die. So I tried all
means to repel it," said Yoshiaki Ueda. The shark rammed the
small boat several times before leaving.

That shark attack reminds me of the attacks of our spiritual
enemy. James said, "Resist the devil and he will flee from you."
But how? Certainly not with a stick. What will discourage
him? James, Job, and our Lord give us the answer.
Immediately before saying, "Resist the devil," James said,
"Submit to God." Job did exactly that when he resisted Satan's
attack by saying, "The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away;
blessed be the name of the LORD" (Job 1:21). Our Savior resisted
the Devil in the wilderness by quoting the Scriptures and
submitting Himself to the Father's care (Matthew 4:1.11).

How do we resist the Devil? Not by shouting or swinging, but
by submitting to the One who can deal with the enemy of our
souls. Trust God for the victory. - Mart De Haan

TO RESIST THE DEVIL, SUBMIT TO HIS ENEMY.

                          WHO IS MOST IMPORTANT?

Read: Psalm 1

His delight is in the law of the Lord .... He shall be like a
tree planted by the rivers of water. - Psalm 1:2-3

During an operation, an experienced surgeon asked a young
intern, "Who is the most important person in this operating
room?"
The intern groped for an appropriate answer. He didn't
believe that his mentor was asking for personal compliments, so,
trying to sound gracious, he replied, "I suppose that it would be
these nurses who assist you in such an efficient manner."
The surgeon shook his head and said, "No, the most important
individual in this room is the patient."

It's possible to overlook the obvious. In personal Bible
study it's easy to forget that the most important element is you.
Whether you find profit or not depends on your attitude. What is
the right attitude to bring to Bible study? First, approach the
Bible with a sense of your own need, not simply to teach it to
someone else. Second, approach the Bible with humility. Don't try
to make the Bible say what you would like it to say, but study to
discover what God bas said.
German theologian Johann Bengel said, "Be like a maker of a
well who brings no water to his source but allows the water he
finds there to flow freely without stoppage, diversion, or
defilement." Those who do that will grow like trees "planted by
the rivers" (Psalm 13). - Haddon Robinson

Afraid to see what's in God's Book? It's meant for you, don't
fail to look. The words and thoughts contained therein will bring
God's peace and cleanse your sin. - Beals

BIBLE STUDY IS MEANT NOT MERELY TO INFORM BUT TO TRANSFORM.

                             TAKE AS DIRECTED

Read: Psalm 119:33-48

Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me
the joy and rejoicing of my heart. - Jeremiah 15:16

Dr. Smiley Blanton was a busy New York City psychiatrist who
kept a Bible on his desk. Somewhat surprised to see this, a
client asked, "Do you, a psychiatrist, read the Bible?"
"I not only read it, I study it," said Dr.Blanton, a devout
Christian. Then he added, "If people would absorb its message, a
lot of psychiatrists would go out of business."

To clarify his point, Dr. Blanton said that if clients who
are plagued by guilt would read the parable of the prodigal son
and his forgiving father. (Luke 15:11-32), they could find the
key to healing.

Do we look for healing in God's powerful Word? We may read
the Bible, but do we really believe it, study it, and put its
teachings into practice? The saving truth of Scripture is God's
potent medicine for delivering us from the disease of sin.
The prophet Jeremiah, despite difficulties and hardships,
found joy in the words of the Lord (Jeremiah 15:16). And the
Psalmist loved the commandments of God (Psalm 119:48) and said to
Him, "I will delight myself in Your commandments .... I will
meditate on Your statutes" (vv.47-48).

Like medicine, God's Word must be taken as directed. Are you
internalizing its truth? - Vernon Grounds

we must take and heed it, Before we can be whole. - D. De Haan

                          WHAT WILL YOU HARVEST?

Read: Judges 1:1-7

As I have done, so God has repaid me. - Judges 1:7

No one can escape the principle that we reap what we sow. I
read about a troublemaker who rode his bike into an inner-city
park, jumped onto a box, and told the people to ignore the law
and steal because no one should be poor while others are rich. A
few minutes later, he discovered that his bike was gone.
Infuriated, he shouted, "Where's the bum who stole my bicycle?"
How true are the words of Job, "Those who plow iniquity and sow
trouble reap the same" (4:8).
In today's Bible reading, when Adoni-Bezek was captured and
treated in the same manner he had treated others, he knew he was
tasting the bitter fruits of the same kind of cruelties he had
shown his enemies.

This reaping principle also applies when seeds of goodness
are sown. I once visited a man in the hospital who was
overwhelmed by the number of cards and plants he had received. I
told him he was reaping what he had sown. He had always been kind
and thoughtful to people, and now people were being kind and
thoughtful to him.

Lord, help us to treat others the way we would like to be
treated. May we live with the awareness that we will surely reap
what we sow. - Herb Vander Lugt

scattered seeds of righteousness, Yield blessings you can keep. -

                            OUR UNSEEN HELPERS

Read: Psalm 34:1-7

Are (angels) not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister
for those who will inherit salvation? - Hebrews 1:14

There is another unseen source of help from which God's
children can take courage when facing a physical or spiritual
crisis - angels! Those heavenly hosts, called "ministering
spirits" (Hebrews 1:14), are instantly responsive to God's
command. Little do we know what powerful protection and help they
provide. When Jesus was enduring agony in Gethsemane, "an angel
appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him" (Luke 22:43).
But you say, "I've never seen an angel:" No need of that!
It's enough to know that they do their quiet, delivering work
beyond the realm of physical sight (Psalm 34:7), calling no
attention to themselves lest we look away from Jesus, out Savior
and Lord. But their protection is real. Just knowing that these
unseen helpers are on our side strengthens our trust in the God
they so faithfully serve. - Dennis De, Haan.

EZEKIEL for TODAY and TOMORROW— CHAP. 25—32

Ezekiel for Today and Tomorrow

Chapters 25 to 32

CHAPTER 25

Prophecy against Ammon and Moab (the Jordan area).

We have covered this prophecy in the book of Isaiah and
Jeremiah, so it is repeated in Ezekiel. When Jerusalem, the house
of Judah and the House of Israel fall in the end time, the people
of the Jordan area are going to say, "Ah!" It is an "ah" with a
smirk, a tongue in cheek, a contestable "ah." The Arabs of the
Jordan area are going to smile and smirk and will say in effect,
"The Israelite people are cast off, God does not look upon them
as anything different than any heathen nation." Now, in one
respect that is a truism, for the Lord is no respecter of
persons, but the Jordanians will be saying this with a laugh,
with an attitude that will not be pleasing to God, and so those
people will, at the end time, go into captivity themselves by the
"men of the East."
The armies of Russia, China, and others from the East will
come into the Holy Land and will destroy certain peoples there.
The war machine of the East will have a representation dwelling
in the Holy Land during the last 42 months of the end of this age
(verses 1-11).

Prophecy against Edom (Turkey)

We have also seen this prophecy in Isaiah and Jeremiah. When
the Great Tribulation comes on this earth, as the people of Judah
flee NORTH and try to escape through Turkey, the people of that
land will NOT HELP them, in fact they will kill many of them, and
will "greatly offend" the Lord by so doing. The people of Turkey
were not to be used by the Lord to persecute the children of
Judah, but they will. God will not forget this!
When Israel and Judah as brought back from captivity at the
coming of the Messiah Christ, as Israel is gathered from the
nations of Europe, and as they exodus from Europe back to the
Holy Land, they will needs go through Turkey. The people of
Israel returning, will take revenge, they will "do in Edom
(Turkey) according to mine anger and according to my fury; and
they shall know My vengeance, says the Lord God" (verses 12-14).
This prophecy is given in full detail in the prophetic book
of Obediah, which I will expound later, when we come to that book
of the prophets.

Prophecy against Philistia (the Palestinians)

The Philistines have long been the enemy of Israel and
Judah, centuries upon centuries the hatred has been there for the
Jews. The Palestinians will rise up in glee and help destroy the
Jews in the Holy Land when the Beast Babylon power of Europe
comes marching into Palestine and Jerusalem, at the start of the
last 42 months of this age. The old Palestinian Philistines will
help destroy Judah. The Lord will remember this and will execute
great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes (verses 15-17).
We saw in Isaiah 11:10-16, that it is the returning people
of Israel and Judah who shall lay their hand on the Palestinians
and shall execute God's revenge.

CHAPTER 26

Prophecy against Tyrus

There was a very real past fulfilment of this prophecy, and
all the details of chapter 26 DID HAPPEN. You can see the Bible
Commentaries and Bible Encyclopedias for the historic details.

CHAPTER 27

Prophecy of end-time Tyrus

This chapter concerns the prophecy against the coming mighty
world TRADING POWER of the Beast Empire of Europe, as it is now
forming under the European Common Market.
Some of the trading nations will be Egypt (v.7); Tarshish
(Spain, Portugal, v.12); Javan (Japan, v.13); Tubal and Meshech
(Russia, v.13); Syria (v.16); Judah (the Jews, v.17); Israel
(most of the West, v.17); Dan (Ireland; Denmark, v.19); Arabia
(the Arabs, v.21); Assur (Germany/Austria, v.23).

Notice verses 27-36 and compare them with Revelation 18. It
is the SAME TIME, AND IT IS THE FALL OF MODERN BABYLON, the Beast
Empire over-ruled by the Babylon Mystery religion - the church
drunk with the blood of the saints.

CHAPTER 28

The Man False prophet and the Devil behind him

Read verses 1-2; now read 2 Thes.2:1-12. We have a man at
the end time, who has set his heart as the heart of God, way
above the idea of just turning to love God and His ways; this is
above anything like that; it is making out you are God in the
flesh, as some "religious" mystery of a kind. It is best
illustrated with a real life example. The man who is head of the
largest "Christian" church on earth came to a South American
country a few decades ago. A TV interviewer asked a young lady
(she looked to be in her early 20s), "What do you think of this
man visiting your country?" She replied, "He is God on earth!"
This is what this chapter in Ezekiel is telling you. This is
what 2 Thes. 2 is telling you. A man at the end time will come,
who is really, according to the book of Revelation, a FALSE
prophet. But he is not going to tell you he is a false prophet; a
false prophet does not tell you he is a false prophet. This man
will come in the name of Christ. He will have MILLIONS believing
as that young lady believed, that he is "God on earth!" That will
be the spiritual deception that will continue to deceive hundreds
of MILLIONS at the time of the end. This false prophet man will
be able to work MIRACLES! Hundreds of millions already believe
this head of the largest Christian church is "God on earth" - so
add MIRACLES to that theological teaching and you have the
ingredients for a power to rule the Western world.

It is the last days. We are into the time when this
religious Christian false prophet, with his "church" is once more
riding and ruling the Beast of the resurrected Roman Empire of
Europe. This false prophet's heart is so deceived that it is
quite possible he himself does not realize he is being inspired,
if not possessed, by the very Devil himself. The evil work will
be done, but God says He has appointed the "terrible of the
nations" to draw a sword after this false prophet's Empire. This
Western "religious" Empire of Europe will come crashing down. As
I've already written, the men of the East, the war machine of the
terrible power to the East, will come against her and the power
of the Empire of the false prophet will be smashed down. This is
all given in Revelation 9.
The prophecy of Ezekiel shifts in verse 12 to the individual
behind the scenes of this false prophet. The individual sealed up
the sum of wisdom, full of wisdom, perfect in beauty. The
individual had been in Eden, the garden of God, certainly not now
referring to a physical man. This individual was covered with all
kinds of precious stones; with the workmanship of "thy tabrets
and of thy pipes was prepared in you in the day that you were
created" (verse 13). This individual is the "anointed CHERUB that
covereth" and was once upon the very mountain of God; he had
walked up and down in the midst of the fire. He was PERFECT in
his ways UNTIL ... until INIQUITY was found in him. He is going
to be destroyed, this cherub, from the midst of the stones. He
was corrupted by the reason of his wisdom and BRIGHTNESS. His
VANITY got the best of him (verses 15-17).

This is not a physical man here being talked about. This is
the COVERING CHERUB - the one time full of BRIGHTNESS cherub. But
he SINNED, and in so doing became the individual we today call
the DEVIL or SATAN.

This fallen cherub angel, will one day inspire and maybe
even possess, the end time king man, false prophet man, of the
end time Tyrus Empire now forming in Europe.

At the end of verse 17 to the end of verse 19, the prophecy
switches back to the physical false prophet man. The false
prophet will meet his end. He will be brought to ashes,
literally, as he is thrown into the lake of fire by Jesus Christ
Himself at the battle of Armageddon (Revelation 16; 17; 18; with
Rev.19:20 and context).

Prophecy against Zion

Zion or Jerusalem will have her punishment, and at that time
she will indeed be no more a pricking thorn to the House of
Israel. Today, as Israel of the West backs and supports the Jews
in the Holy Land, it can be said that they are a somewhat
pricking thorn of adversary to Israel, many other nations,
especially those of the Arab world, do not like the most powerful
nations of the West (Britain and the USA) be-friending the Jews
(verses 20-24).

Beyond it all, when the House of Israel is gathered and
restored from their captivity, when they are taken back to the
Holy Land, then they shall build the houses, plant vineyards, and
they will dwell with confidence, when the Lord executes judgments
upon those people who are still despising them, at the beginning
of the 1,000 year reign of Christ on earth. The first years of
this 1,000 year age will not be a bed of roses for some people.
Lessons will need to be learned by some nations (verses 25-26).

CHAPTER 29

Prophecy against Egypt

Here we come to a few chapters concerning Egypt. Back in the
1960s and 1970s the nation of Egypt was in the news weekly,
sometimes daily. Today Egypt is hardly mentioned in the news. But
it will not be this way forever. Egypt is yet to rise to a major
important nation in the Middle East and Arab world. Egypt will
spear-head the coming "king of the South" as given in Daniel
11:40-45. But God says that the end time Babylon, the "king of
the North" will come against Egypt and her Arab partners. It will
be the time when the horn of the House of Israel will but forth -
the time of the end restitution of the House of Israel (verses 1-
21).

CHAPTER 30

Egypt and her allies DOOMED!

The prophecy is "even the day of the Lord is near, a cloudy
day; it shall be the time of the heathen" (verse 3).

No mistaking this, it is a prophecy for the great day of the
Lord, the time of the end of this age. Those allies of Egypt will
fall together with Egypt (verse 5-8). We know from other prophecies
that Egypt and her allies will fall at the BEGINNING of the last 42
months of this age (see Daniel 11:40-45 and into Daniel 12).

Great pain is to come on Egypt and on the Ethiopians. It is
Babylon of Europe that will put an end to this Egyptian power of
the king of the south. It is the time when judgment is to be
executed on Egypt and her allies, the time when "they shall know
that I am the Lord" (verses 9-19).
The Egyptians and Arab nations do NOT know the Lord. God
uses that expression over and over again in the book of Ezekiel;
it means what it says; nearly all nations today DO NOT KNOW the
Lord! The time is coming when they most assuredly will; when the
knowledge of the Lord shall cover the earth as the waters cover
the sea beds.

Once more God proclaims to Egypt and her allies that she
shall be broken, put to the sword, and the power to do that will
be the king of Babylon, the king of the North - Daniel 11:40-45,
and on into Daniel 12.

CHAPTER 31

Allegory of the fall of Egypt

God uses the mighty Assyrian Empire (the Assyrians migrated
through Europe and are the German people today) - verses 1-9.

Because of the pride of Egypt as it will be in that day, she
and her allies will be brought low by the mighty hand of the
"terrible of the nations" - and in modern times the terrible of
the nations has been the German people. They will again spear-
head a resurrected Holy Roman Empire of Europe that will come
against the Egypt/Arab king of the South, in the last 4 years or
so of the end of this age (verses 10-18).

CHAPTER 32

Lamentation over Egypt's fall

The setting for this prophecy is the "heavenly signs"
(verses 7-8) given by Christ for the end of the age, and also as
given in Revelation 6 and the 6th seal (verses 1-8).
This is the GENERAL time frame only, to help us see that it
is a prophecy for the every end of this age. We know from Daniel
11:40-45 and into Daniel 12, that the SPECIFIC time of Egypt's
destruction by the king of the North is AT THE BEGINNING of the
GREAT Tribulation. The CONTEXT of Daniel 11:40-45 and into
chapter 12, proves that point. But that is so near the time of the
"heavenly signs" that God mentions it here in Ezekiel 32 so we
will understand this prophecy WILL HAVE AN END TIME FULFILMENT!!

It is the sword of Babylon - the king of the North - the
Babylon Beast power of the book of Revelation, that will be used
to bring destruction on Egypt and her Arab allies. It is the time
when all nations will "KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD" (verse 9-15).

It is also within the time span when not only Egypt will
KNOW GOD IS GOD, but other nations like Meshech and Tubal (the
mighty Russian nation); it is the time when Edom (Turkey) will be
with the dead men (verses 17-32).

Yes, it is true, prophecy can have MORE THAN ONE
FULFILMENT!!

That is one very good reason as to why prophecy was WRITTEN
DOWN AND PRESERVED for us, as we saw in Jeremiah 30:1-9. Because
in the last days prophecy will be REPEATED, BUT WITH THE MODERN
OFFSPRING OF THE ANCIENT NATIONS. It is also true as they say,
that if we will not learn from the past, we are doomed to REPEAT
the PAST in the FUTURE!

History has sadly and clearly shown that Israel and Judah do
not learn from the past. It would seem we have ONE MORE BIG
LESSON TO LEARN, at the end of it Jesus the Messiah will come to
earth again and pour out His Spirit on us so we will NEVER again
DEPART from His love and the way of His righteousness.

WOMEN'S ADORNMENT— MAKEUP— JEWELRY— #7— WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS!!

No Make-up Arguments

The "natural" and/or "too sexy"

                    MAKE-UP "UNNATURAL" AND "TOO SEXY"?

by Keith Hunt

I do get from time to time an email from people who disagree
with my studies on MAKE-UP and JEWELRY.

The TWO usual arguments of disagreement are (1) make-up is
"unnatural" and (2) make-up is too sexy.

MAKE-UP "unnatural"

The unnatural argument is rather weak indeed. Is it natural
to cut the hair? Or should we allow it to grow its natural
length, whatever that may be? Should men shave their face? Or
should all men have to let their facial hair grow? Then should
that facial hair be cut or let it grow to its natural length?
Should women "pluck their eyebrows" or let them naturally grow
without plucking (many women would then have as thick eyebrows as
men)? Should women shave their legs as most women do? Or let them
be naturally what they will be without shaving them? Should women
shave under their arm-pits, or let them be as natural as they
will?
Should women shape and put into various styles, their head
of hair? Should they pull their head of hair up and put it in a
"bun" on top of their heads, or should it hang down loose and be
natural? Should women, use perfume, and men, after shave lotion?
Would using such be "too sexy"? I suppose some would say yes!
Is it more natural for women to be covered from head to toe,
as they do in some "religions" such as in the fundamental Islam
religion?

Should people leave their teeth to be "naturally" crooked,
twisted, broken, or discolored? Is it somehow more pleasing to
God to leave your teeth as "natural" as they may naturally
develop? Is it unnatural to have "braces" on your teeth to
eventually correct their formation. Should you have "false teeth"
when you loose one or more from "natural" causes? Is it pleasing
to God to have false back teeth (where they do not appear to be
seen) but displeasing to God to have false "front" teeth, where
they are seen and could present a false "sexy" smile?

I once saw a middle aged "court judge" with these bushy eye-
brows. Some of the hair in the middle of each eye-brow stuck
STRAIGHT UP. It was most distracting. I do not know if he forgot
to comb his eye-brows that day, or if he was one that believed
"natural" should be left "natural."

Is it more pleasing to God for women to leave their hair
natural (whether that be straight or "naturally" curly) and less
pleasing to God, if women put their hair into pony tails, or
ring-lets, or braided, or whatever other pattern women shape
their hair into?

What about men and their facial hair, those that let it grow
that is. Is it more pleasing to the Lord that men just simply
leave their facial hair to form its own "natural" pattern? Or is
it less pleasing to God if men "shape" their facial hair into the
various patterns that some men do?

Most would probably agree its okay with God that men and
women "shampoo" or wash their hair. But what about making it have
LUSTRE and SHINE? Should we leave it to the natural - whatever
natural shine or lustre it naturally has? Is it less pleasing to
God if we un-naturally make our hair have lustre and shine?

You can probably think of many other "naturals" or "un-
naturals" to add to what I've given, but the point I think is
made by what I've stated above.

The "natural" argument has its weaknesses indeed, even I
think to the point of silliness and down and out laughability!!
Well laughability to most of us, but I guess some people out
there would not laugh, but do take the "natural" argument
literally and so try to live it. Fortunately for the rest of us,
the "naturals" are usually off in the wilderness or the woods, off
into the forests and hills, and stay away from all us "un-naturals."

MAKE-UP AND SEXUALITY

Now we come to the area where the "NO make-up for women"
people feel they have a pretty good case. To them it is simply
"make-up makes the woman look more sexy and so invites men to
lust after her easier."

Let's first talk about "sex" - the male and female sides of
it. Oh, its been kinda known for centuries that men have a larger
and quicker sex drive than women - generally and in the norm of
things that is very true.
It's only been in the last few decades that modern science
has been able to find the arithmetic on the male and female sex
drives. Now science can tell us in down to earth formula that the
male has 10 TIMES the HORMONE sex drive than women. Did you get
it? The male has TEN TIMES (THAT IS 10 TIMES) the hormone sex
drive than females.
They have done studies on the male and female sexuality.
They came up with this result: The female thinks about sex about
TWICE a day. The male has sex pop into his mind about EVERY
MINUTE of the awake hours of the day!! We are of course talking
about the male and female in their prime sexual years and in the
normal healthy male and female, with the natural sex hormones
that God created them to have.
Possibly the male having sex pop into his mind every MINUTE
is overstating it somewhat. If the male mind is concentrating on
his work or assignment or hobby etc. he is not thinking about
sex.

But to illustrate the point is this true life experience of
one woman. The article appeared in a news-paper I was reading a
few years back. This lady in her prime years had been given BY
MISTAKE, the male hormone of sexuality (she was taking hormones
for some health problem she had at the time). In her own words
she said, "Wow, I could not believe it, I was thinking about sex
all day long. I do not know how men can function, with such a
strong sex hormone. I could not stop thinking about sex."
The doctors soon got her back to being a normal female with
TEN TIMES less sex hormone than men.

The Islamic religion did not have the science facts that we
have today, but they did understand the male sex drive. They have
in their religion the teaching that women are to be covered up
from head to toe when out in public, so men will keep their sex
hormone is check. Some religions do not even allow the female to
SPEAK to men in public (other than their husbands) because even
the female voice it is taught can lead men to wrong sexual
thinking.

Now, maybe you can understand why under the Old Covenant in
Israel, God allowed POLYGAMY! Solomon had 700 wives and 300
second wives (concubines - see my study on that topic - "Wives
and Concubines") with APPROVAL, as being ALLOWED by God, under
that Old dispensation. David at one time had "wives" (2 Samuel
12:11). Under the New Testament God's Spirit comes to unite with
our spirit and gives us POWER of mind to be able to think and
live differently than those under the Old Covenant. Yet, even
then, SOME fall down (even some ministers of various church
organizations) and find the control of their sex drive is hard to
shackle, hence some of the "sex morality scandles" you've
probably seen and heard about on the National or World News at
times.

Well so much for the science of the sexual drives of the
normal healthy male and female. Back now to the point at hand,
about make-up for women, then again it will touch on the sex
drive of the male. For those against the use of make-up for the
woman will attest that it makes the woman "more sexy" and so the
male can be easier led to lust after the female.

The answer is a POSSIBLE yes, for some men who let their sex
minds run free and easy, who are making no attempt to control
their thoughts. But even such men, if you talk to them, will tell
you that make-up is really secondary per se. Let me explain. The
male mind does not work in that specific way of make-up being the
all in all drive of sexually lusting. A woman who is NOT
naturally blessed (if we are still calling it a blessing - to me
it is) with good looks and a nice figure to match, can put on all
the make-up she likes, but the male mind on sexuality, is still
attracted more to the woman with NO make-up on, but has good
looks, smooth "peaches n'cream skin," (or any other color) and a
good figure.
Look, today, there are plenty of women who do not put on
make-up. You see them all over the place, in fact probably more
women do not use make-up than do use it. As I walk around in this
world, that's what it seems to be to me. The females who have the
good looks, nice figure, who are keeping themselves tidy and well
groomed, are the ones who still catch the male eye, even if they
have not one speck of make-up on. Make-up is NOT the ALL IN ALL,
that a lot of "no make-up theology" people would like to claim!
In fact, as a lot of women do not know how to use make-up
correctly, the use of it by them, can actually be a "turn off"
for men. I speak now as the world looks and speaks.

Make-up (and jewelry) used correctly (so you do not end up
looking like a Christmas tree) does not transform a plain Jane
into a Miss Universe. I do not want to offend any female, and it
is not my intention to do so, but to speak openly on this
subject, I have to put the cards on the table. A Miss Universe
will be a Miss Universe whether she puts on make-up or not!! A
plain Jane (no offence to Jane's out there) will never be a Miss
Universe no matter how much make-up she uses.

God's word speaks of "moderation in all things." The
moderate use of make-up by women has VERY LITTLE bearing on the
male sex hormone per se. Those who say differently are just not
admitting the truth to themselves, or to you.

The moderate use of make-up is another pleasing way to adorn
ones self. It is much like the use of clothes, of this color and
design (which of course can be overdone or under-done is usually
the case) and so is also the use of jewelry. It can be pleasing
or pleasant, just as a garden with color and care can be
pleasing, or the inside of a house with color and decor can be
pleasing. So with the clothes, jewelry, make-up, for the female.
But when it comes to the argument that such will lead men to
"lust" in their hearts towards women FASTER, IT JUST AIN'T SO!!

As SHOCKING as it may sound to you women who have been told
over and over again, by your parents, or church, or minister,
that make-up leads men to lust quicker after women than after
women with no make-up on, YOU HAVE BEEN TAUGHT A LIE!! They say,
tell a lie often enough and people will believe it, and that IS
OFTEN TRUE!

Again, I say, put as much make-up on as you like, on the
plain Jane; put no make-up on the Miss Universe. Have them walk
by a group of men, and I will tell you as a man, which one of the
ladies the men's eyes will follow. The Miss Universe will win out
every time. I speak again as the world would speak.

Make-up at best, and within the "moderation" of the law of
God, is pleasant for the picture of life, as flowers are pleasant
for the physical scenery of life. Too much make-up is actually
laughable to the male, and to most people, who think the woman so
painted up, should be in the circus as a clown, and not walking
about the streets of the city.

God is not against human kind looking pleasing and pleasant,
with the right use at the right time, with the right attitude of
mind, in dress, perfume, oils, jewelry, and make-up.
It is actually very sad to say, but in my observation of
mankind IN and OUT of the body of Christ, over my life-time (now
65 as I write this) I have found MOST people do NOT look after
themselves in the physical. We of the body of Christ, are told
that we are the VERY TEMPLE of God, yet FAR TOO MANY of us, do
not take care of our body as the Temple of God. We are not
careful with our diet, we eat the wrong things, in the wrong
quantity; we don't get enough exercise; we don't get enough
sleep; we are too stressed out; we dress and look really bad far
too much of the time. And dare I say it ... too many of us in the
Western world are OVERWEIGHT!! And it seems MOST DO NOT CARE how
they look physically! I will also tell you this, those who try to
cover up their "unhealthy look" with make-up, do not cover it up
at all. The poor skin tone, the dry parchment skin, the bags
under the eyes, the wrinkled skin even of the relatively younger
age group, can be seen through the make-up. I've said it before,
make-up of itself, is not the sexy turn on, that "religious"
people AGAINST the use of make-up want to assert that it is!
Today there is a huge amount of money spent on "make-overs"
- have this or that done with modern science to get you looking
half good again, because of the unhealthy beating over years of
life, that people give themselves. And so they want the quick
fix, while they continue beating themselves with an unhealthy
life style, and mis-management of their physical body.

THE RIGHT BALANCE

Of course, I realize that the physical is no where as
important as the SPIRITUAL of serving the righteousness of the
Almighty. Many of God's children around the world have little
control over their physical lives, many live in poor countries,
with little physical means. Maybe that realization by the Western
world Christians should make them all the more appreciative of
how they can have more power over their physical lives, not only
in looking after themselves better, but sharing what physical
riches they have with those around the world in much less
desirable physical circumstances.

So, for many, if not most, all this study on the physical
side of the human body, is peripheral, and they wonder why I take
up all the time and space to talk about it. For most it is a
"none issue" - but for some, maybe only the relatively few, but
for some, they need to study and have the answers on this issue
of make-up, cosmetics, and jewelry. Hence I do then give the time
and space for the issue.

In all things we need BALANCE! It is a trait of the human
mind to swing the pendulum either far to the right or far to the
left, and only now and gain to hit the center bull's eye.
We need to try and not get "fanatical" over physical things,
yet also remember it is written our body is the Temple of the
Spirit of God. The Father and His Son Christ Jesus do LIVE IN us
if we are truly the child of God.

We should also realize this issue is NOT a salvation issue.
Well, some try to make it so, because they have set their minds
to believe GOD MUST HATE THE USE OF MAKE-UP AND JEWELRY, and just
cannot give one fraction of their minds to think OTHERWISE! I
feel a certain sorrow for such individuals, and I'm of myself
helpless to help such set-in-stone mind-sets. I can only hope and
pray that such people will one day be able to give a little space
in their minds, to realize they could be wrong, and that God does
NOT HATE make-up and jewelry per se.

One day the Almighty One WILL SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT for
everyone, until then we need to be considerate of each other on
this topic.

ACCORDING TO FAITH

What should be clear to all who read the Bible, and
especially the New Testament, is that we must all live according
to our personal conscience on matters like what we have been
discussing in this series of studies. This principle is brought
out by the apostle Paul in Romans 14. On such matters where there
is no clear dogmatic "thus says the Lord" on certain aspects of
life, we need to be charitable towards others who may not see it
as we do. We need to live with ourselves in good conscience, in
faith. And actually not to do so IS SIN for us, the apostle Paul
makes that very clear in what he writes, and he was inspired of
the Lord to so write.

So live with yourself in good conscience of faith, keep an
open mind to be corrected, to grow in grace and knowledge, and be
charitable towards others who may differ with you on issues that
do not pertain to salvation.

A VACATION IN THE COUNTRY

(Reflection #14, Song 8:5-14)

CONTEXT

One mark of a good writer is his wisdom in selection of his
material. In portraying this love story, our poet could have used
many incidents in the lives of Solomon and Shulamith. The fact
that out of many possible experiences he selects the ones he does
naturally leads us to ask, "Why?"
He selects material in order to accomplish his purpose. He
has something to tell us and chooses to do it without directly
telling us what he wants to say - by stringing a series of
reflections (small love songs) together in such a way that a
message is revealed. With great artistry, the poet selects
several fitting incidents with which to conclude his love song.
Since the theme of love has been the burden of the book, he tells
us in the concluding verses how this love can be attained and of
what it really consists. The following chart summarizes the
poet's craftsmanship.

COMMENTARY

Love awakened

In the preceding reflection, Shulamith had spoken of a
vacation in the Lebanon mountains. As this reflection opens, we
find the royal couple walking down a country road. Shulamith has
just warned, for the third time, against the premature awakening
of love's passions (8:4). As the poet allows us to eavesdrop on
their conversation, the theme of the timing of her sexual
awakening is discussed.

8:5 CHORUS:

Who is this coming up from the wilderness
          Leaning on her beloved?

Apparently, Solomon and Shulamith have just come from the
forest where they shared their love. They are now at peace and
their love has been reconfirmed. The chorus provides a transition
into the next scene.

SOLOMON:

Beneath the apple tee I awakened you There your mother
was in labor with you There she was in labor and gave
          you birth.

The text associates the apple tree here with Shulamith's
home and birthplace. Her home may have been shaded by the apple
tree to which Solomon referred. Thus, the apple tree does double
duty here as a symbol for the awakening of physical life at birth
and the awakening of sexual life on the wedding night (to which
she had referred in her warning to the daughters in the preceding
verse-8:4). By calling the reader's attention to the awakening of
sexual passion once again, the poet introduces us to the theme of
the last reflection - the development of the love of which the
book speaks. Before that can be explained, however, he leads us
into her comments about the nature of the love they share which
leads her to so commit herself to him.

Love defined

8:6 SHULAMITH:

Put me like a seal over your heart
Like a seal on your arm.

The seal of a king was commonly a sign of his ownership. It
signified something of great value. She desires to be set as a
seal on her husband's heart the place of his affection. To be set
like a seal on his arm is to be in the place of his strength or
protection. Why does she desire to be placed as a seal on his
heart and arm? The basis for her request is found in the
following verses. As long as she resides there (near his heart)
she knows the love of the king will keep her and give her
security. This is because his love is "as strong as death;" and
beyond purchase; it is invaluable.

(1) Love is intense.

She wants to be near his heart always, because she first of
all knows the intense nature of his love for her.

For love is as strong as death
     Jealousy is as severe as Sheol;
Its flashes are flashes of fire,
The very flame of the Lord.

His love is like death because of its finality and
irreversibility. Frequently in the Old Testament, God is
presented as jealous in His love for His people, Israel. To say
God is "jealous" simply means he has intense love and concern. He
desires Israel's exclusive devotion to Him and not to other gods.
In a similar way, true love, says the bride, is like this. It is
exclusive and it is intense. Such is Solomon's love for her and
that is why she desires to be near his heart and under his
protection.

She even likens Solomon's love for her to "flashes of fire,"
the very "flame of the Lord." The fire of God's love for His
people is often described as an unquenchable fire in the Bible.
It bums so intently a river could not put it out.

8:7 SHULAMITH:

          Many waters cannot quench love
          Nor will rivers overflow it;

Certainly "waters" (trials, hurts, problems) will attempt
to squelch this love and drown it, but such perfect love cannot,
be deadened by these factors. Run a river over it and it still
burns.
This kind of love, of course, is only rarely (if ever)
obtained by fallen men. It is God's ideal.

(2) Love is invaluable.

SHULAMITH:

If a man were to give all the riches of his house for
          love,
          He would be utterly despised.

Why would this man be despised? Because he erroneously
thinks love can be earned (purchased with riches) or in some way
deserved. The poet is not being so obvious as to say that true
love can't be bought with money. That was dearly known. He is
emphasizing the fact that worthwhile love is never earned, but
can only be freely given. If you set a price of a million dollars
on it, it still couldn't be purchased. It comes the same way
God's love for us comes - when it is freely given. Like the
riches of Christ, such love is invaluable. A love that is "freely
given" creates a sense of security in the one loved. If the
person being loved senses he must earn or deserve love, he or she
lives on a performance standard. Solomon did not put his wife on
a performance basis. She knew she was loved regardless of how she
behaved.
How is this ideal love to be obtained? It is to this
question that our mind naturally wanders after such a glowing and
beautiful description of committed love. While many ingredients
are involved, our poet singles out two for special mention. Such
love is obtained when one is raised by a caring family and when
one makes responsible choices.

Love developed

In order to find satisfactory answers to the question of the
source of this quality of love, one must go way back to the
beginnings of character development, back to the home. Thus in a
kind of "flashback" the poet takes us back to Shulamith's
childhood as she was approaching puberty. Of all of the events he
could have related to us, he singles out one, a conversation
young Shulamith's brothers had among themselves. Apparently,
then, we are to see in this conversation something central to the
development of intense and unconditional love.

The basis for believing this is a "flashback" is in 8:10
where Shulamith dearly speaks of her adolescence: "I was a wall
..." referring to her inaccessibility sexually during that time.

8:8 BROTHERS:

We have a little sister, And she has no breasts,
What shall we do for our sister on the day she is
          spoken for?

Shulamith's brothers are concerned for their sister's future
marriage and happiness. They want to prepare her for the "day she
is spoken for" - the day of her marriage. At this point, she is
without breasts (still entering puberty). Soon she will develop
into a mature woman and the boys will begin to call; her brothers
want to prepare her for that. Their strategy is simple and wise.

8:9 BROTHERS:

          If she is a wall,
          We shall build on her a battlement of silver;
But If she is a door,
We shall barricade her with planks of cedar.

Their strategy depends on her character. If she is a wall -
impervious to the boys advances - they will simply encourage and
praise her for her virtuous stand. To place a battlement of
silver on a wall is to decorate it to make it more beautiful.
Just as this battlement of silver increases the beauty of the
wall, they will attempt to increase her good character by praise.
There is, however, another possibility. It could be that
Shulamith will turn out to be a door - easily entered, easily
seduced. Should that prove to be the case, they will take a
different approach. They will barricade her with planks of cedar.
In other words, they will be very strict with her and
protect her from the boys' advances.

In essence the brothers were committed to a little of both
approaches. Surely they would praise her, and surely they would
restrict and protect her when necessary. Encouragement and
discipline were the characteristics of this caring home. Such
things take love and time and careful attention. Yet the poet
singles out this kind of an environment as one factor in
Shulamith's ability to develop an intense and unconditional love
for her husband.
But there is more. No matter what kind of home environment
one is provided with, he must begin to make responsible choices
regarding his sexuality that represent his own values and not
simply those of his parents. Shulamith informs us she made such
responsible choices in the following verses.

8:10 SHULAMITH:

          I was a wall, and my breasts were like towers;
Then I became in his eyes as one who finds peace.

It was unnecessary for her brothers to build a plank of
cedar around her, she chose to be a wall. And when she matured,
her breasts were "like towers." The towers on the walls of the
city were the first things an enemy saw. But because of the
ability of the tower to provide a defense for the wall and the
city, the sight of those towers discouraged an attack.
In a similar way, Shulamith's fully developed breasts, ready
for love, were inaccessible. She was impressive to look at, like
the towers of the city, and was one of the first maidens to be
seen (due in part to her lovely figure). But any enemy of her
virtue was quickly repelled.
The next phrase is emphatic in the Hebrew: "THEN I became in
his eyes as one who finds peace." When? After deciding to be a
wall. As a result of assuming responsibility for her virtue, she
found favor in "his eyes" (Solomon's). The phrase seems to be a
play on words. The Bible uses a similar expression for a man
finding grace in the eyes of the Lord (Noah). She is saying she
found grace, favor in Solomon's eyes. The idea is that Solomon
fell in love with her.

But why was the normal biblical usage of finding "grace"
changed in this instance to finding "peace." Her name, when
pronounced out loud, sounds like "Shulamith." Solomon's name in
the original Hebrew sounds like "Shulomoh." The Hebrew word for
peace is "shalom." Thus, she says, "Shulamith had found shalom
with Shulomoh." She found love and romance when she found
Solomon. Her responsible behavior for her own sexuality revealed
a character that was able to attract the king's love.
The theme of responsible choices, freely made (not forced by
her brothers) is now elaborated more fully in a parable of a
vineyard.

8:11 SHULAMITH:

          Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon;
          He entrusted the vineyard to caretakers;
Each one was to bring a thousand
shekels of silver for its fruit.

8:12      My very own vineyard is at my disposal;
The thousand shekels are for you, Solomon,
And two hundred are for those
who take rare of its fruit.

Shulamith now takes us back to the time she and Solomon
first met. Solomon owns many vineyards all over Palestine, and
one is located in the north of Palestine at Baal-haman near
Shunem, her home town. It was customary for the owner of a
vineyard to lease it out. In return for their work, those to whom
it was leased received 20 percent of the total profit. In this
case the vineyard that belongs to Solomon is leased to
Shulamith's brothers; hence it becomes a fitting analogy of
Shulamith's person who was also, for a time, under the care and
protection of her brothers. Shulamith often refers to herself as
a vineyard 12:15) and earlier complains about the workload
imposed on her by her brothers that had kept her from tending her
own vineyard-her feminine charms-1:5. As Solomon's vineyard had
been entrusted to Shulamith's brothers, so was Shulamith. After
caring for the vineyard the brothers produced a 1,000 shekel
profit for their king. But the "profit" they produced for Solomon
in their care for Shulamith was even greater, and she feels they
deserve a reward. Thus when she says, "My very own vineyard is at
my disposal," she is asserting that their work is done and she
now discharges her person, freely, to whom she desires. Her
vineyard is now under her authority and control, and she freely
gives of herself to her lover, the king. In the analogy, her way
of saying she gives all the profits of her brothers' care to
Solomon is by saying, "The thousand shekels are for you,
Solomon." That is, the entire profit of the vineyard she gives
him. However, since caretakers of a vineyard received 20 percent
of the profit, she asks Solomon to give her brothers 20 percent
of 1,000 shekels, or 200 shekels, for their efforts in preserving
her "fruit" for the king alone. It is probably not a request for
literal money, but simply that they be remembered and
appreciated.

Thus, not only did her brothers protect her and prepare her
to make personal choices when she came of age, she made them
responsibly. The poet, then, by selecting these two scenes, tells
us something of the development of an intense and unconditional
love,
It is, first of all, usually rooted in a home in which love
is coupled with discipline.
Secondly, it is a result of responsible behavior and is
freely given.
Throughout the Song, both lovers illustrate beautifully the
principle of giving freely and of assuming responsibility for
their own actions.

But now the conclusion of our love story has come. As it
began with a longing for sexual embrace (1:4) It is fitting that
it ends with the enjoyment of love.

Love enjoyed

As the lovers prepare to leave Shulamith's country home,
Solomon turns to his beloved and whispers:

8:13 SOLOMON:

O you who sit is the gardens, My companions are
          listening for your voice
          Let me hear it.

The Hebrew text does not have the word "My" in front of
"companions;" it just reads "companions." It certainly doesn't
refer to Solomon's companions, as that would make little sense.
The "companions" refer to those who knew Shulamith as a friend
and keeper of the vineyard. The playmates of her youth long to
hear her speak a farewell.
But while her old friends desire to hear her say something,
Solomon says there is something he wants to hear from her also.
She understands what he is getting at and playfully turns to him
and says, privately, so no one can hear,

8:14 SHULAMITH:

          Hurry, my beloved,
And be like a gazelle or a young stag
          On the mountain of spices.

The figures of a young stag and a gazelle picture
playfulness and sexual potency. The mountains of spices refer to
the "mound of myrrh and hill of frankincense" (4:6) - her
perfumed breasts and garden. Thus she invites Solomon to make
love.

COMMENT

The senior panic

As a college student I recall the fears that came upon many
of the seniors on campus as they faced graduation and the
assumption of responsibilities in the real world. We used to call
it "senior panic." However, the phrase was often used humorously
of girls who came to college for the purpose of getting husbands
and who now, as seniors and without any prospects in sight, were
going to be thrust out into society minus that anticipated mate.
In some cases the "panic" became rather amusing as girls would
woefully lament that now that they had arrived at the ripe old
age of twenty-two, they had lost their chances for marriage.
In a more serious vein, what of the woman who is widowed or
divorced, left with several children and anxious to remarry, but
due to age and circumstances feels her opportunities are slim?
In many respects Shulamith faced a similar situation. While
all the other girls were caring for their own vineyards and out
meeting boys, she had been forced into relative seclusion by her
brothers, working all day in the vineyards under the scorching
sun. How unlikely that such a girl would ever end up married to
the king of the nation! Yet the God who plans our lives causes
all things to work together for good. The lesson is this: no
matter how impossible the circumstances, God has no problem
bringing a future mate, selected by Him, into your life. You may
be shut up in the back of an office, forty years old, with four
kids to care for. Yet the Lord can bring the right person into
your secluded "vineyard" at the appropriate time. Can you trust
Him for that?

"Freely given" love

The last section of the book (8:8-12) is really an answer to
the question, "How can this love be attained?" She has specified
in 8:7 that it cannot be purchased; how then is one to acquire
it? Her answer is twofold.
First of all, she says it cannot be demanded or deserved; it
must be freely given. This, as explained in the commentary, seems
to be her meaning when in 8:12 she says, "My very own vineyard is
at my disposal." I am not under obligation, but I give freely she
says.
Too many couples think they deserve their mate's love. Too
many men adopt the attitude that since they provide a paycheck
and a home and security, their wives owe them love in return
Little do they realize a wife doesn't define love in terms of a
paycheck, but rather as a total relationship.
What is involved in this "freely given" love? It appears
Shulamith has come to this conclusion through experiences she has
described earlier in the book. How is love attained? Answer: by
freely giving to one another in the midst of problems and not
insisting on ones own way. Their love was attained by growth
through trials. Their struggles and their personal decisions to
freely give of themselves during their struggles knit them
together in a deeper bond of love.
Specifically, what did they "freely give?" As we observed in
chapter 9, they did two things. They both assumed responsibility
for their own behavior and did not focus on their mates error. We
saw Shulamith choosing to change her attitude about Solomon's
late-night approach to sex and his preoccupation with his job.
Instead of sitting around sulking about how neglected and taken
for granted she was, she committed herself freely to increasing
her own sexual desire and thinking on her husband's positive
qualities (5:9-6:3). Furthermore, she changed her actions by
aggressively taking the initiative in their sexual love (7:1-9).

The second thing they both freely gave in the midst of their
struggles was blessing for insult (1 Peter 3:9). We see this
clearly in Solomon's responses to her continual rejection of his
late-night approaches. He praises her exactly as he did on the
wedding night and loves her unconditionally (6:4-10)! Thus, they
freely gave of themselves in two ways; they assumed
responsibility for their own behavior, and they rendered blessing
for insult.
Many would like to experience the kind of love described by
Shulamith in Chapter 8. Yet few are willing to pay the price, and
end up in the divorce courts blaming each other or "traditional
role relationship teachings in the Bible" as the cause. The real
cause is something the Bible calls selfishness or sin. Love like
this is only fashioned in the anvil of adversity. This type of
love is forged in free choosing to love your mate unconditionally
when you are hurt, or when you are having problems in your
relationship.

Solomon and Shulamith didn't enter marriage with this kind
of love for each other. Their love deepened and grew as they
applied God's principles to their problems.

     Yours can too!

EZEKIEL for TODAY and TOMORROW— CHAP. 19—24

Ezekiel for Today and Tomorrow

Chapters 19 to 24

                                           WHY will you DIE,
                                           O House of Israel?

                                                         by

                                                  Keith Hunt

You peoples of the lands of Northwest Europe, the Celtic-Anglo-Saxon
British Commonwealth, and the United Stated of America, are the very
literal people of the ancient House of Israel, believe it or not!

Dozens of booklets and whole books have been written by various
persons over the last 200 years, proving that the
Anglo-Saxon-Celtic peoples came from the area where the 10 tribed
house of Israel was taken captive by the great Assyrian armies
from 745 to 718 B.C. That captivity was the end result of
decades of preaching by different prophets sent by the Eternal
God of Israel to His people, telling them that if they did not
TURN and REPENT from their wicked ways and seek Him with their
whole heart and mind, He would bring the mighty Assyrian Empire
against them who would carry them away into captivity and
slavery.
They did not heed the words of the prophets, and so the
rest of the story came to pass as God promised. Yet the Lord
also said through Amos that not one grain would fall, they would
be sifted as through a sieve among the nations (Amos 9:9). God
would lead them on and plant them in a new land as He promised to
David (2 Samuel 7:10), and there He would comfort them, bless
them, multiply them. There He would bring about the promises and
the prophecies of Genesis 48, 49 and Deut. 33.
Yet the Eternal knew also that in so restoring Israel to
prosperity and greatness, they would over a period of time, once
more turn away from Him and His word into sin and wickedness and
idolatry. He knew that once more, just before the end of this
present age and the return of the Messiah Christ Jesus back to
this earth, He would again have to bring Israel to repentance by
allowing a mighty nation and company of nations to subject them
to death and captivity and slavery, as it was in the days when
they were held under Egyptian bondage before God delivered them
by the hand of Moses. The Almighty, knowing this had to be the
way (because it would be unlikely Israel would repent without
facing such punishment) He had Jeremiah and the other prophets
WRITE down the words of their first preaching to Israel back in
the 8th and 7th century B.C. for a time to come in the latter
days (Jeremiah 30:2,3; Hosea 3).

The time is at hand O peoples of Israel to see the works of
the Lord upon you, to accomplish what is written, to bring to
pass the many prophecies of old, and to deal with you in such a
way as that you will never backslide again, never go after your
lovers to make love to them and their carnal deceptive religions.

The Eternal says Britain (Ephraim) has gone after Assyrian (the
German peoples) when she saw her sickness, when she was named the
sick nation of Europe, to seek help (Hosea 5), yet she will only
eventually find a lion waiting to devour her. You together with
the peoples of the house of Judah will be torn to pieces without
rescue. The Lord will turn from you UNTIL you acknowledge your
sins. You will be two full years (a day for a year principle in
prophecy) in slavery. During the third year of Jacob's trouble
(Jer.30:7) God will start to deliver you, give you some life and
hope (Hosea 6).

Why must this come upon you? Why will you have to die (two
thirds and more of you according to Ezekiel)? Will you not see
why O Israel, as you read the words of Hosea in his 8th chapter.

"Set the trumpet to the mouth....because they have
transgressed my COVENANT, and trespassed against my
LAW....Israel has cast off the things that are GOOD: the enemy
shall pursue him. They have SET UP KINGS, but NOT by me: they
have made PRINCES, and I knew it NOT: of their SILVER and their
GOLD have they made them IDOLS, that they may be CUT OFF....For
they have sown the WIND, AND THEY SHALL REAP THE WHIRLWIND....
Israel is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a
vessel wherein there is no pleasure. For they are gone up to
Assyria (Germany) a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim has HIRED
LOVERS....Because Ephraim has made altars to sin, altars shall
be unto him to sin. I have written to him the GREAT things of my
LAW, but they were counted as a strange thing....For Israel has
forgotten his Maker, and builds temples: and Judah has multiplied
fenced cities: but I will send a FIRE upon his cities, and it
shall devour the palaces thereof."

Notice Hosea chapter 9. "....Ephraim shall RETURN to
Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things in Assyria....The days
of visitation are come, the days of recompense are come, Israel
shall know the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for
the multitude of their iniquity, and the great hatred....As for
Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird....though they
bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their
womb. My God will CAST THEM AWAY, BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HARKEN
UNTO HIM, AND THEY SHALL BE WANDERERS AMONG THE NATIONS"
(various verses).

You people of America, Britain and Northwest Europe, you
have in your history always been a stiff-necked people, hard to
deal with, rebellious in heart and mind, going away from the
Eternal's laws and commandments when in the good times, the
prosperous times. It was no different when God made Himself
known to your fathers in the land of Egypt. Read about your
history in Ezekiel chapter 20.
God revealed and gave to you His laws, statutes, precepts,
and His Sabbaths, as a sign so you would know the true and only
God, but your fathers REBELLED and despised the judgments of the
Eternal, they refused to walk in them.
The Lord God asks if YOU are the same as your fathers were.
It would seem the answer is a positive, YES! So, the Eternal
will deal with you as to bring you to repentance and into His
covenant. A FIRE will come upon you and those not burned up
shall come forth to serve the Almighty in Spirit and in Truth.

Notice the revealing prophecy in Ezekiel chapter 21 and
verse 14. Two GREAT swords of war have come upon you already in
the this 20th century. Both great wars stated by your old enemy
the Assyrian - the German people. The sword was sharpened
twice already, you have seen the enemy that shall again come upon
you twice before. The THIRD TIME the sword is being sharpened in
Europe. Yet this third time is and will be different than the
previous two times. The battle will be from two directions, yet
it will be one. The modern BABYLON of the Europe Empire now
forming in the area of the old Roman Empire, together with the
mighty German nation now united once more, will be the power and
the end time Empire that God will use to strike the sword and
kill you. This end time "religious" whore woman that will ride
the beast of secular Europe, shall also come against your
brothers of the house of Judah. You will both FALL TOGETHER
(Hosea 5:5).

Again, why will you fall from your power and might? Once
more, like a broken record it would seem, God repeats again your
sins in Ezekiel chapter 22. Will you not listen? Maybe, if
repeated enough times some will listen and repent.

"....Now, you son of man, will you judge, will you judge
the bloody city, yes, you shall show her ALL HER ABOMINATIONS...
You have despised my holy things and have profaned my Sabbaths...
And one has committed abomination with his neighbor's wife, and
another has lewdly defiled his daughter-in-law, and another
in you has humbled his sister (sexual immorality)....In you have
they taken gifts(bribes) to shed blood (the hired gun) you have
taken usury and increase (your loan and banking system is not
from God), and you have greedily gained of your neighbor by
extortion (low wages for some, exploiting the women and the
needy), and you have FORGOTTEN me....Son of man, the house of
Israel is to me become DROSS.....As they gather silver , and
brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, into the midst of the
furnace....so will I gather you in my anger, and in my fury, and
I will leave you there, and melt you....
Her PRIESTS (RELIGIOUS LEADERS) have violated my LAW, and
profaned my holy things: THEY HAVE PUT NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE
HOLY AND THE PROFANE, NEITHER HAVE THEY SHOWED DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
THE UNCLEAN AND THE CLEAN, AND HAVE HID THEIR EYES FROM MY
SABBATHS....
Her PRINCES (SECULAR LEADERS) IN THE MIDST THEREOF ARE LIKE
WOLVES RAVENING FOR THE PREY, TO SHED BLOOD, AND TO DESTROY
LIVES, TO GET DISHONEST GAIN.
And her PROPHETS (RELIGIOUS FORECASTERS TO THE SECULAR
LEADERS AND THE PEOPLE)....SEEING VANITY, AND DIVINING LIES
UNTO THEM, SAYING, THUS SAYS THE LORD GOD, WHEN THE LORD HAS NOT
SPOKEN.
The PEOPLE of the land have used oppression, and exercised
robbery, and have vexed the poor and the needy: yes, they have
oppressed the stranger wrongfully (those in positions of power
and able to employ others have taken advantage of the weak, the
poor, the needy, the new immigrant, and the stranger among you)."

NOW TAKE A GOOD LONG LOOK AT VERSE THIRTY!!

Within the context of the whole Bible, this is not saying
the Eternal does not have ANY true ministers of the Church of God
doing His work in Israel and proclaiming His word faithfully.
Jesus said He would build His Church and the gates of the grave
would never prevail against it. So the Lord does have His
servants on this earth and within the nations of Israel, telling
it like it is. Why this message and my web page is just one small
witness to this truth. What God is saying here is a GENERAL
statement, and within the context of speaking to the SECULAR
nations of Israel, it is a secular comment. The Almighty looks
at the secular peoples of Israel and all their secular leaders,
together with all the leaders of false Christian religions, and
then He says HE CANNOT FIND ANY AMONG THEM TO MAKE UP THE HEDGE,
TO STAND IN THE GAP, SO HE SHOULD NOT DESTROY MOST OF YOU AS A
PEOPLE!! THEREFORE HE SAYS IN VERSE 31 HE WILL CONSUME YOU IN
HIS WRATH AND BRING UPON YOU WHAT YOU HAVE SOWN BY YOUR SINS AND
INIQUITIES!

WHAT DO WE HAVE IN 2024? WE HAVE TWO OLD MEN RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT OF THE

USA. BOTH HAVE THEIR LARGE PROBLEMS. WHERE ARE THE YOUNG 40s OR 50s IN AGE?

THERE SEEMS TO BE NONE!  GOD CAN NOT FIND ANY TO MAKE UP THE HEDGE, TO STAND

IN THE GAP! YOU ARE IN A PATHETIC SPIRITUAL AND SECULAR SITUATION, SO YOU WILL

HAVE TO GO INTO DESTRUCTION TO BE BROUGHT TO REAL REPENTANCE!

Chapter 23 of Ezekiel shows clearly that Israel and Judah
are not the same people. It shows plainly they are at this time
SISTERS, and separate KINGDOMS of people. Yet BOTH will face the
same ENEMY! This did not happen the first time they went into
captivity. The house of Israel were taken captive by the
Assyrians, and the house of Judah by the Babylonians.

The Eternal says there are TWO women, the daughters of one
mother - they both come from the same origin and were one woman
at the beginning. The books of Kings and Chronicles are devoted
to the two separate Kingdoms of the house of Israel and the
house of Judah. The house of Israel is AHOLAH, and the house of
Judah represented by Jerusalem is AHOLIBAH (verse 4). Aholah
played - past tense - the harlot. She went to Assyria and made
love to her (verse 5). Then God says, "Wherefore I HAVE
delivered her into the hand of her lovers, into the hand of the
Assyrians, upon whom she doted. These discovered her nakedness,
they took her sons and her daughters, and slew her with the
sword...." (verses 9,10). Notice the PAST tense is used. When
this message was given to Ezekiel, the house of Israel was
already over 120 years in captivity to the Assyrians and actually
most were moving away and entering eastern Europe.
Not to be outdone, the house of Judah, after seeing all
this, went one better and became even more corrupt than her
sister (verses 11,12).
Yet it was ultimately the Babylonians that Judah doted upon
and loved (verses 17,18).

Judah is warned that the Empire of Babylon will come upon
her and discover her nakedness. Actually such had already taken
place as Ezekiel was a captive. Most of Judah had already fallen,
only the city of Jerusalem was yet to fall into the hands of the
Babylonians (verses 22-35).

The prophecy now comes to the end time captivity of Israel
and Judah, starting in verse 36. BOTH Aholah and Aholibah are to
be judged. THEIR sins are now listed. Some are the same as given
before, a few basically the same but with a new twist, such
as described in verses 40-45. The key is verse 46 and 47. A
COMPANY OF NATIONS ARE TO COME AGAINST BOTH HOUSES OF THE PEOPLES
OF JACOB - ISRAEL, AND BOTH ARE TO FALL TOGETHER! This is also
given in Hosea 5:3. In the strict technical way, this did not
happen back in the 7th and 6th century B.C. In that time frame
there was over 120 years between the downfall of the kingdom of
Israel and the kingdom of Judah. Yet there are a number of clear
prophecies that plainly forecast there will be a destruction
TOGETHER of both the house of Israel and the house of Judah BY a
COMPANY of nations that include the Assyrians (German peoples)
and the Babylonians (Italian peoples). Other prophecies call
this end time empire - Babylon, or the daughter of Babylon
(Isa.47). Compare Isaiah 47 with Revelation 18. The book of
Revelation calls this end time power, the Beast! It is a ten
nation (feet of Daniel's image - chapter 2 - ten toes). Ten
kings/nations/secular powers will for a short time give their
might and devotion to a king man, also called "beast" in the book
of Revelation. He will be the secular political leader while the
woman whore/religious part of this empire will have its man who
can bring fire down from heaven and perform miracles. In the book
of Revelation he is called "the false prophet."

This great beast power will contain the Germans and the
Italians - Assyrians and Babylonians. They will try to literally
conquer the world, for God, as they will claim, to bring peace
and establish, as they will further claim, the one true religion
of God. They shall first begin their quest by conquering the
"king of the south" (Daniel 11:40) who will push at them in some
way not specifically revealed to us. They shall be victorious -
the king of the north, this beast power, and shall proceed to
enter the Holy Land, and Jerusalem (continue reading Daniel 11 to
the end). It is at this time (proceeding to read into Daniel 12)
that a time of trouble such as never before or ever will be again
(Jeremiah calls it "Jacob's trouble" as we have seen) shall come
upon the earth. It is at this time that the Beast power will
head for second base in its quest to rule the world, by attacking
and destroying the Jews and the house of Israel - you people of
Northwest Europe, the British Commonwealth, and the United States
of America. Jacob's trouble will have arrived.
Along with all this there will come the time when the true
people of the Church of God, who have the testimony of Jesus and
who keep the commandments of God (Rev.12), coming under fire,
under persecution, and many being put to death because they will
not worship the false religious system of the Beast power. Some
of God's people will find protection in the wilderness, yet many
will suffer death as many did in past ages for the truth of the
Lord.

It is GOING TO HAPPEN (if national repentance is not
forthcoming)! Mark my words well. Read my lips. A day of
reckoning for all the sins of the nations of the West
is coming. The Assyrian/Babylonian Beast power of Europe will
rise - it will be the 7th resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire,
and the Eternal has declared it will be His battle sword (Isa.
10) against His people of the whole 13 tribes of Israel, as well
as the power to persecute the very Church of Jesus Christ.

     Ezekiel chapter 24.

Remember, the city of Jerusalem is a type of the House of
Israel, and in some cases all of Israel including the House of
Judah (all 13 tribes). Here in chapter 24 we have the prophetic
end time king (beast man) leading the end time Babylon of the
European resurrected Holy Roman empire (the 7th and last
resurrection) against the nations of Israel (typified by the city
of Jerusalem in Ezekiel's day).
The Eternal describes you Celtic-Anglo-Saxon nations to a
huge boiling pot of death, your sins and iniquities boiling up as
scum. You have not repented, your scum is yet within you. Once
more the Lord God cries out to you:

"She has wearied herself with lies, and her GREAT SCUM went
not forth out of her: her scrum shall be in the FIRE. In your
filthiness is lewdness: because I have purged you, and you were
not purged, you shall not be purged from your filthiness any
more, TILL I have caused my FURY to rest upon you. I THE ETERNAL
HAVE SPOKEN IT: IT SHALL COME TO PASS, and I will do it; I will
not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent;
ACCORDING TO YOUR WAYS, and according to your doings, SHALL THEY
JUDGE YOU, says the Lord God" (verses 12-14).

Yes, it is written that we shall REAP what we SOW! Even if
you do not want to believe you are the very people of literal
physical Israel, you shall still die because of your sins and
wickedness. The Eternal is no respecter of persons, and because
you people of the Celtic-Anglo-Saxon race were given the words of
the Almighty (the Bible) like as no other people in modern times,
because at one time you founded your nations and culture upon
those words of the Bible, because you proclaimed to be Christian
nations, and because you have rejected that heritage, the Supreme
One is going to reject you, and allow your lovers to come in and
defile you, lay your shame open to all, and punish you till you
so deeply repent and cry out to Him for mercy.

The DEATH of Ezekiel's wife in one sudden stroke was also to
be a sign to you the nations of Israel (verses 15-24), that your
destruction will come quickly and not really expected. It will
take many of you by complete surprise.

The Lord does give and leave some hope. Those of you who
live through Jacob's trouble in the end time, shall be able to
find the truth of the Eternal through faithful servants of the
Almighty like Ezekiel, in type.

"Also, you son of man, shall it not be in the day when I
take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire
of their eyes, and that whereupon they set their minds, their
sons and their daughters. That he that escapes in that day
shall come unto you, to cause you to hear it with your ears?
In that day shall your mouth be opened to him which is
escaped, and you shall speak, and be no more dumb: and you shall
be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am the Eternal"
(verses 25-27).

There follows a number of chapters dealing with some Gentile
nations in the context of the last days and as it relates to the
time when Israel and Judah will again experience death and
captivity by the hands of the last days Assyrian/Babylonian Holy
Roman empire. Those prophecies we shall look at next time in
this series on the message of Ezekiel.

                                A KIND WORD

Read: Proverbs 15:1-7,23-28

A wholesome tongue is a tree of life. - Proverbs 15:4

A newspaper obituary caught my eye with this statement:
"Setvices for affable fix-it man are today." Instead of focusing
on one of the movers and shakers of society, the article told the
story of a 79-year-old appliance repairman who was known for his
integrity, character, and unquenchable happiness.
The president of the company for which the man had worked said,
"Half of his job was to go to people's houses and fix the
appliances, and the other half was to fix the people. We had a
lot of people with problems who requested him by name. He was
very jovial, very friendly, and always had a kind word."
No matter what our job, perhaps the most important work we
do is helping and encouraging people, especially by what we say.

The book of Proverbs speaks often of the tongue's power to
hurt or to heal. For example: "A wholesome tongue is a tree of
life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit .... A man has joy
by the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how
good it is!" (Proverbs 15:4,23).

We will represent Christ today. What an honor it would be if
we were known as happy people who have a smile and a kind word
for everyone. - David McCasland

A careless word may kindle strife, A cruel word may wreck a life;
A timely word may lessen stress, A loving word may heal and
bless. - Anon.

KIND WORDS ARE ALWAYS THE RIGHT KIND.

                         HIS SACRIFICE - AND OURS

Read: Hebrews 9:23-28

In these days when so many people are insisting on their
personal rights, the biblical concept of selfsacrifice may seem
old-fashioned and ludicrous. Oh, they may give for what they can
get back, but they think it's foolish to give only to help
someone else without hope of return.
In the past, however, many have given sacrificially.
Canadian author William D. Matheson, in My Grandfather's War,
tells of a veteran who walked through the streets of his hometown
with an empty sleeve. When a passerby commented on the loss of
his arm, the veteran replied, "I didn't lose it. I gave it."

That describes what Jesus did for us. He didn't lose His
life on the cross. He gave it. As today's verse says, He "gave
Himself for our sins:" He paid the penalty so that all who
believe on Him would experience forgiveness of sin and have
eternal life. In fulfillment of the Old Testament picture of the
sacrifice of the lamb, He yielded His life for us.
Following Christ's example, we are to give ourselves
unselfishly to His service and help others. That makes sense,
though it may seem absurd to many. Our sacrifices will glorify
the Lord and make an impact for Christ on our selfish world. -
Dave Egner

By Christ the sinless Lamb of God The precious blood was shed,
When He fulfilled God's holy Word And suffered in our stead. -
Anon.

CHRIST'S SACRIFICE OF HIMSELF FOR US MOTIVATES US TO SACRIFICE
OURSELVES FOR OTHERS.

                         THOSE LITTLE TEMPTATIONS

Read: Daniel 1

Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself
with ... the king's delicacies. - Daniel 1:8

Many Christians are serious about guarding against the "big"
sins like sexual immorality, but they aren't as careful about
"lesser" evils. Byron Chapell, a respected Christian leader, made
this mistake but was sensitive enough to recognize it and take
steps to correct it.
While a seminary student on a summet construction job,
Chapell accepted a special favor from his supervisor. He did a
little painting and repair work on the man's hunting lodge, he
could spend the rest of the day fishing, swimming, and relaxing
at full company pay. He was enjoying his first evening in the
cabin when the phone rang. It was his father. "What are you doing
collecting company pay for private work?" he asked pointedly.
Byron felt convicted. Even though he needed the money and
knew he might be fired if he backed out, he left the cabin at
once and told his supervisor he couldn't continue the
arrangement.

The prophet Daniel and his three friends were asked to eat
food that according to their religious faith.
It was a little thing,  but they had decided to be obedient to God in everything.

                             THE FATHER KNOWS

Read: Psalm 103:1-14

He knows our frame; He remebers that we are dust. - Psalm 103:4

In an employee chapel service at RBC Ministries, Joseph
Bower spoke on Psalm 103:14. He emphasized that since God "knows
our frame" and "remembers that we are dust," He never allows more
to come into our lives than we are able to bear. To illustrate
this verse, Pastor Bower related a personal experience he had
while working with his son. A man of unusual height, brawn, and
muscle, Bower was active in the construction of church buildings
in addition to his pastoral work. Because of his great strength,
he found it easy to forget the comparative weakness of others.
One day, wanting to move a large steel beam that weighed
about 300 pounds, he called to his son, "Grab the other end, and
we'll move it over!" His son, smaller than his dad, exerted all
his strength to lift the girder, but he ended up in the hospital
with a strained back. Bower had forgotten his son's inability to
handle as much weight as he.

It's comforting to know that our heavenly Father isn't like
a forgetful earthly father. God "knows our frame; He remembers
that we are dust." He knows exactly what we can take. Our Father
will never allow us to be loaded down with more than we can bear.
We can count on it! - Richard De Haan

                             FASTER THAN A FAX

Read: Daniel 9:1-6,20-23

It shall come to pass before they call, I will answer. - Isaiah
65:24

The installation of the first telegraph lines in the
Shetland Islands off the coast of Scotland prompted unusual
responses by some people. For example, as one man stood looking
at the wires being mounted on the high poles, a businessman said
to him, "What a wonderful thing this new invention is! When it is
finished, we will be able to send a message 200 miles or more and
get an answer within an hour!"
The other man seemed unimpressed. "There's nothing very
great about that," he answered. "There isn't? Do you know of
anything that is better or faster?" asked the businessman.
The man, thinking of Isaiah 65, replied, "Did you ever hear
of getting an answer before the message is sent?" The man looked
dumbfounded, thinking it was just a strange, meaningless comment.
Little did he realize the biblical truth behind that reply.
God reads our bearts and always knows our needs. Often, even
while we are speaking, the desired blessing is on the way.
Daniel was still praying when Gabriel flew swiftly from
God's throne with the answer (Daniel 9:20-23).

Yes, prayer is faster than any modem means of communication.
Let's use it often! - Henry Bosch

Even while we're asking, God's power and love can bless; To
praying souls He often grants More than they can express. - Anon

                              HE DIED FOR ME

Read: Romans 5:1-11

While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. - Romans 5:8

During the American Civil War, a famer in New York was
drafted for the Union army. His wife had died and he was the sole
support of his young children. But then an unmarried man in the
town who had no dependents came to his home and offered to go to
war in his place.
For the sake of his children, the farmer accepted the offer.
The generous friend marched off to battle, and in the first
engagement he was shot and killed.
When the farmer heard what had happened, he went to the
scene of the battle and brought back the body. He buried his
friend in the village churchyard, and had these words engraved
on the headstone
HE DIED FOR ME.

That is a touching story. But the truth of the gospel is
that Jesus gave His life for us while we were His enemies (Romans
5:8-10). The implications are staggering. If Christ died for us
while we were enemies, how much more will the living Christ do
for us now that He has made us His friends! We can be sure that
not only will He preserve us from God's wrath against sin (v.9),
but He will give us everything we need (8:32)- in this life and.
the next. It's wonderful to be able to say, "He died for me:" -
Haddon Robinson

Because He gave His life for me, I'll thank Him all my days. -
