I'VE MENTIONED IT BEFORE ..... "RIVER OF NO RETURN" WITH ROBERT MITCHUM AND MARILYN MONROE.
FILMED IN THE CANADIAN ROCKIES.....THE MOVIE HAS BEEN REMASTERED IN COLOR AND SOUND. BREATHTAKING SCENERY AND
ONE OF THE MOVIES THAT REALY SHOWS MARILYN'S TALENT AS SINGER AND GUITAR PLAYER. YES SHE PLAYS OR STUMS ON THE GUITAR, AND REALLY WAS HER DOING IT, AS A GUITAR PLAYER I KNOW IT WAS HER DOING IT. MAYBE SOMEONE TAUGHT HER HOW TO DO IT BUT SHE DID DO A FINE JOB.
IT IS A FAMILY MOVIE, WITH A YOUNG BOY AS PART OF THE THREE MAIN STARS. THE DVD I GOT CAME WITH AN INSERT. HERE IN PART IS WHAT IT SAYS:
"A new Marilyn Monroe is seen in this film. Here, she is not the blonde bomshell of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes or the loony girl with glasses in How to Marry a Millionaire. She's not the moody and frightened wife of Niagara, either. Her role here gives her a chance for real romantic scenes, tough physical action and true tenderness with a child.......The rugged scenic location of the film was tough on the cast and crew. While on location, Marilyn Monroe fell in the Maligne River TWICE, was rescued by Mitchum and the crew, and tore at least one ligament in her ankle, which sidelined her for a few days. The makeup artist also had to mix special oils into her foundation so her skin wouldn't blister in the sun from so much outdoor work. In addition to Monroe's ankle injury, Rory Calhoun nearly caught pneumonia from the frigid river and missed three days of work. Robert Mitchum also suffered from the water's cold and was out for two days, and actor Douglas Spencer nearly lost a finger when a horse bolted while he was holding the reins. The rough whitewater of the Maligne, Bow and Snake Rivers also claimed a fair amount of equipment, including three specially equipped marine landing craft, which were used as camera barges. To deal with the damage and loss, the studio made four duplicate rafts that weighed 3,500 pounds each. Three were destroyed by the rocks and rapids. As is obvious on the screen, doubles and stunt men were rarely used. For close-ups, the studio tank was used, with the raging river projected behind the actors and raft.
During location filming, the company spent a lot of time on the railroad. A special five-car Canadian Railways train took them back and forth from Devona, Alberta, twenty miles from the principal location. The only road was unusable."
IT TRULY IS A GREAT MUSICAL ACTION LOVE STORY SET IN THE BEAUTIFUL CANADIAN ROCKIES, WITH A NICE HAPPY ENDING.
..........
"The PIRATE" - JUDY GARLAND AND GENE KELLY......AS IT SAYS ON THE FRONT COVER....."THE GREAT MGM MUSICAL ROMANCE.....Treasure Chest of TECHNICOLOR....songs by COLE PORTER.
WHEN THE MOVIE CAME OUT THE NEW YORK TIMES SAID: "A DAZZLING, SPECTACULAR EXTRAVAGANZA. THOROUGHLY DELIGHTFUL."
IT IS QUITE DIFFERENT FOR BOTH JUDY AND GENE FROM THEIR USUAL FILMS. GENE LOOKES VERY HANDSOME WITH AN ERROL FLYN MUSTACHE.
APPARENTLY IT WAS NOT A HIT WITH THE PUBLIC WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT.
BUT IF YOU LIKE JUDY GARLAND AND GENE KELLY AS I DO, YOU WILL FIND THIS A DIFFERENT BUT DELIGHTFUL MUSICAL MOVIE.
I BUY A LOT OF MY MOVIES FROM EITHER AMAZON.COM OR MOVIESUNLIMITED.COM
