BACK TO THE PROBLEM WITH .... SUPPLEMENTS!!!???

ON  A  RECENT  DOC  ZONE  CBC  PROGRAM,  WE  WERE  TAKEN  BACK  TO  THE  DEBATE  ON  VITAMIN/MINERAL  AND HERBAL SUPPLEMENTS.

THERE  WERE  SOME  SHOCKING  FACT  BROUGHT  OUT...... THERE IS NO STANDARD GOVERNMENT TESTING, OR KNOWING ALL THE INGREDIENTS ARE WHAT THEY SAY, AND AS PURE AS THEY SAY......A LOT OF "OILS" GO RANSID IN NOT TOO LONG A TIME.....SOME  DON'T EVEN CONTAIN ALL THE INGREDIENTS ON THE LABEL.....A SMALLER GROUP ARE PHONEY...... SOME, ACTUALLY  MANY, HAVE FANCY CLAIMS THEY PRINT ON THE LABEL, AND THERE IS NO SCIENCE TO BACK IT UP  -  THE  SCIENCE IS MISSING.

SOME  OF  THE  MOST  COSTLY  "CONCOCTIONS"  [YOU KNOW 30 OR 40 OR 50 DOLLARS A BOTTLES]  JUST CAN NOT BACK UP THEIR CLAIMS IN ANY CONCRETE  MANNER.

SOME IN THE "NATURAL HEALTH INDUSTRY" HAVE THESE HUGE, MASSIVE, AMOUNTS THEY RECOMMEND......AND IT MOST CERTAINLY HAS BEEN PROVED....TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING....YOU CAN BE IN DEEP TROUBLE.

TAKE VITAMIN E...... TAKE TOO MUCH AND YOU CAN HAVE SERIOUS PROBLEMS, SUCH IS ALSO TRUE OF VITAMIN A.

TAKING MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF VITAMIN C THEY SAID CAN GIVE PROBLEMS...MAYBE, I'VE NEVER TAKEN MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF VITAMIN C....I DO KNOW THAT WHAT YOUR BODY DOES NOT USE IT FLUSHES OUT [WHICH WAS NOT MENTIONED].

SO THE BATTLE GOES ON WITH "SCIENTISTS" AND "THE NATRO OF ALL THESE PRODUCTS IN LARGE HEALTH STORE."

IT CERTAINLY SEEMS THERE IS A "NOT SO GOOD" SIDE TO MANY OF THESE BOTTLES OF THIS AND THAT; BUT THEN YOU DO GET  SOME  WHO  ARE  TRULY  HELPED BUY SOME "NATURAL" PRODUCTS. THEY ARE LIVING WITNESSES THAT IN SOME CASES, IT HAS HELPED SOME, OTHERS MORE, AND FOR SOME A FULL AND COMPLETE CURE.

AH YES, WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT AND WHAT SOME PRODUCTS THAT ARE GOOD FOR THE GOOSE ARE NOT GOOD FOR THE GANDA.

THAT JUST ADDS TO THE SOMEWHAT CONFUSION OF THIS WHOLE ISSUE.

HOW  DO  I  LOOK  AT  IT  ALL?

I CAN ONLY STATE MY LIFE CASE FROM A TEEN TO MY NOW 74 BIRTHDAY COMING NEXT 9/11.  YOU WILL HAVE TO TRY AND SEE WHERE YOU FIT IN MY SCALE OF LIFE; FOR YOU THERE MAY BE MUCH LARGER AREAS YOU HAVE TO WORK ON THAT I DID NOT HAVE TO WORK ON. REALLY GOOD HEALTH IS NOT ABOUT TAKING THIS PILL OR THAT SUPPLEMENT OR THESE HERBS, OR A MIXTURE OF ALL OF THEM, AND THINKING YOUR PROBLEMS WILL NOW DISAPPEAR,  AND YOU'LL BE THE HEALTHIEST PERSON AROUND.....WHAT I'M SAYING IS: BEING FIT AND HEALTHY IS A MANY SIDED SUBJECT. I'LL GIVE YOU HOW IT ALL CAME TO ME AS ALREADY A VERY FIT TEEN [HARDLY EVER SICK; ON THE TRACK AND FIELD TEAM FROM ABOUT AGE 9 AND UP; SOCCER CAPTAIN IN HICH SCHOOL; CRICKET CAPTAIN LAST YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL; CAMPION BREAST-STROKE SWIMMER IN HIGH SCHOOL; AND LEARNING JUDO THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL YEARS]

I GOT INTERESTED IN HEALTH IN A SERIOUS WAY IN MY MIDDLE TEENS.

AT THE ENCOURAGEMENT OF MY DAD I SENT FOR THE "HEALTH AND STRENGTH COURSE" BY THE FAMOUS  CHARLES  ATLAS. THIS WAS ABOUT 1956.

NOW BACK THEN MOST FOODS WERE STILL MAINLY ORGANIC.  THE MILK WE RECEIVED IN SCHOOL FREE,  THE CREAM CAME TO THE TOP, YOU SHOOK IT UP BEFORE DRINKING IT.

SADLY WHITE BREAD HAD BEEN INVENTED.  CHARLES ATLAS SAID STAY AWAY FROM ALL WHITE FLOUR PRODUCTS......AND I SURE DID. THAT WAS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS I COULD HAVE DONE STARTING AT AGE 14. AND 99 PERCENT OF THE TIME I'VE FOLLOWED THAT RULE EVER SINCE, TO THIS VERY DAY.

ATLAS TAUGHT DRINK LOTS OF MILK, YOU'LL HAVE A GREAT COMPLEXION,  I  DID  AND  I  DID [HAVE A GREAT COMPLEXION].

ATLAS WAS STRONG ON FRUITS, VEGETABLE, WHOLE-WHEAT FLOUR PRODUCTS; NUTS, BERRIES, BUTTER NOT MARGARINE,  PROTEIN FROM NUTS, EGGS, CHEESE, BEANS, MILK, AND ORGANIC MEATS LIKE BEEF.

ONE OF CHARLES ATLAS' PHRASES HE USED WAS "YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT"

FOR MOST PEOPLE BACK THEN IN THE 1950s WHO WERE HEALTHIER THAN THE AVERAGE PERSON TODAY,  EATING HEALTHY THE CHARLES ATLAS WAY, WAS A HUGE SPEP IN BEING HEALTHIER STILL. IT WAS FOR ME!

THE CHARLES ATLAS EXERCISES WERE FANTASTIC FOR STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE, AND JUST AGAIN PLAIN GOOD HEALTH PERIOD!  I STILL DO SOME OF THEN TO THIS DAY.

DURING MY TEENS AND INTO MY 20s I HAD A BODY METABOLISM  WHERE I COULD EAT THREE GOOD MEALS A DAY AND NOT GAIN AN OUNCE - MEALS OF VARIETY AS TAUGHT BY CHARLES ATLAS.

    UP TO ABOUT AGE 45 I ATE THREE GOOD MEALS A DAY; FOLLOWING THE BASIC OUTLINE OF FOOD EATING BY CHARLES ATLAS, AND THE CLEAN AND UN-CLEAN LAWS FOOD LAWS GIVEN IN THE BIBLE. I HAD GIVEN UP DRINKING MILK BECAUSE OF THE INDUSTRY SHOOTING THE MILK COWS WITH THIS AND THAT. THE SAME FOR BEEF, UNLESS I COULD OBTAIN IT AS ORGANIC. I STARTED TO TAKE CALCIUM SUPPLEMENTS, AND NOW AND AGAIN VITAMIN C. I GOT MY VITAMIN D THROUGH SUNSHINE EXPOSURE, SO DID NOT CONCERN MYSELF WITH VITAMIN D. THROUGH MY LATTER 30s I READ ABOUT THE WONDERS OF "BEE POLLEN" AND HOW IT WAS "COMPLETE" SO TOOK CERTIFIED ORGANIC BEE POLLEN DAILY. SOME PEOPLE WERE TELLING ME I WAS GAINING WEIGHT. CHECKED IT OUT ON DOCTOR'S PRO WEIGHT SCALE; YES I WAS 15 POUNDS OVER THE WEIGHT I HAD BEEN SINCE A MIDDLE TEENAGER. I CUT BACK ON STARCHY FOODS AND REGAINED MY TEENAGE WEIGHT. THIS WAS HOW I WENT UNTIL ABOUT 60 YEARS OF AGE. MY METABOLISM CHANGED AGAIN AND SO I HAD TO CUT OUT JUST ABOUT ALL STARCHY FOODS [WHOLE WHEAT BREADS ETC.] AND POTATO EATING [LOVED BAKED POTATOES WITH BUTTER]. MANY GOOD VITAMINS AND MINERALS IN WHOLE ORGANIC FLOUR AND THE JACKET OF BAKED POTATOES. IT WAS THEN THAT I STARTED TO TAKE A VITAMIN/MINERAL SUPPLEMENT, FOR THOSE OVER 50 YEARS OLD. I WAS STILL TAKING A VITAMIN C SUPPLEMENT [TAKING TOO MUCH VITAMIN C IS NO DANGER AS THE BODY FLUSHES OUT WHAT IT DOES NOT NEED]. I STARTED TO TAKE A VITAMIN D SUPPLEMENT, ABOUT 1,000 UI DAILY [NO WHERE NEAR THE 5,000 TO 10,000 UI THAT SOME RECOMMEND YOU TAKE], I WAS GETTING SOME FROM THE SUN. I WAS INTO READING "HEALTH BOOKS" - I ADDED "GARLIC" "FLAX SEED" "MSM" "VITAMIN E - 400 UI" [TOO MUCH AND YOU CAN HAVE PROBLEMS AS LIKE TOO MUCH VITAMIN A] "B12" [AS I WAS NO LONGER EATING MUCH MEAT AT ALL] "CALCIUM/MAGNESIUM" "LECITHIN" [FOR ARTERY CLEANING - MY DAD WAS TAKING IT BECAUSE OF AN ARTICLE HE READ - THE DOCTORS COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW CLEAN MY DAD'S ARTERIES WERE FOR BEING IN HIS 80s]. ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR I TAKE "PROSA-FORCE" FOR THE PROSTATE.
    WITH ALL OF THAT I ONLY TAKE "BEE POLLEN" NOW AND AGAIN. GOOD BLACK MOLASSES NOW AND AGAIN. OH YES READ ABOUT "CHIA SEEDS" AS A WHOLE FOOD AND TAKE A TEA-SPOON OF THEM DAILY.
    THAT HAS BEEN MY "FOOD" INTAKE OVER THE DECADES OF MY LIFE.
    IN 2005 I BOUGHT MY WONDERFUL GOLDEN PALOMINO HORSE; 2006 AT AGE 64 A SADDLE SLIPPED AND I FELL ONTO A SOLD HARD AS CONCRETE [FROM THE BURNING SUN] DIRT ROAD; THOUGHT I HAD SMASHED MY HIP IT HURT SO BAD. BUT NO FRACTURE AT ALL, ONLY BLACK AND BLUE MUSCLES AND SKIN; THOUGHT THE CALCIUM/MAGNESIUM SUPPLEMENTS AND THE REST OF THE ABOVE I WAS TAKING, DID THEIR JOB OF GIVING ME VERY STRONG BONES. IT WAS AFTER THIS THEY CAME OUT WITH ORGANIC MILK, WHICH I NOW DRINK.

    MY LAST IN-DEPTH PHYSICAL EXAM THROUGH MY DOCTOR SHOWED I'M IN SUPER HEALTH IN EVERY WAY. PEOPLE WHO SEE ME THINK I'M ABOUT 53 AND NOT 73.

    SO WHAT I'VE DONE TO KEEP HEALTHY OVER MY LIFE-TIME HAS SHOWN UN- MISTAKABLY GOOD RESULTS. AS THEY SAY THE PROOF OF THE PIE IS IN THE EATING.
