So it's a little strange - my title.
In the book that recently came out (when Steve Jobs died) I'm now in the book to Steve's 30/31 years of life.
The book gives just about nothing on the life of Steve Jobs up to finishing High School.
But from then on ..... well Steve Jobs was much of the time a nasty, ugly, shouting, angry, upset, and very abrasive, individual; he had some strange physical life ideas as well, with fad diets or fad week of only eating apples and things like that.
It is a science fact that when you are an angry, upset, nasty, type of character - the way you live and conduct yourself around other people, that bad chemicals your body produces. In other words you are poisoning yourself by living a life-style that is always on the edge of being easily upset, angry, and just being a nasty person to be around.
Sorry to say but Steve Jobs, as far as I've read in the book, up to him being 30/31, was way way too much a nasty, abrasive, easily upset, individual.
Did this life-style of his, eventually bring cancer to his body?
Now please do not think or tell others I believe this is so. I DO NOT KNOW. But when your body is filled with chemical poisons from bad emotions, it is possible, that with some people, this could eventually translate into cancer.
Now, true, for another nasty life-style person they may live to be 80 plus years old.
We are all individual - and for some having bad chemicals flying around your blood on a regular basis - it could or might add to the risk of getting cancer.
We shall not know till Jesus returns the answer to my question, did the nasty person that Steve Jobs was from High School on to at least into his 30s, help bring on the cancer he died from?
All I'm saying is a MAYBE. We'll find out when Christ comes again, the answer to my question.

Iraq CIVIL WAR close !!
On my way home this late afternoon of Friday 27th, on the CBC radio news - the violence in Iraq is every day life - now they say it is close to being a full civil war.
Ten or so years ago I said it was a terrible bad mistake for the USA and Britain (the two "B" boys - Bush and Blair) to go and fight the enemy on the enemy's own soil, in a man to man combat war.
I said such a war could NOT be won by the USA or Britain, even if they did take out some of the leaders. The radical "religious" fanatics who want to kill us, will ALWAYS be there, some will die, but others come to take their place - and so it will be till the very end time of this age. I said back then, and since, that the enemy know how to run, and hide, and strike, and wait their time, regroup; they know the hills and mountains and have lived in them for decades. I said ten years ago that we would loose thousands of lives trying to wage a war on the enemy's soil. I said back then that when it would be all over and we left, those nations, or "sects" within those nations, would be back fighting each other as before.
It has all come to pass as I said it would.
Now there is a growing movement in Pakistan to have the USA leave - the nation has lost thousands of civilians, and the economy going down, one man in politics they interviewed said Pakistan has lost 70 BILLION dollars by the USA being on its soil to fight in Afghanistan. A growing movement in Pakistan wants the USA OUT of Pakistan!!
It's one thing to keep our borders and countries of the West free from terrorists in ways that we have employed since 9/11, but to go and fight in hand to hand combat, the enemy on their soil is a foolhardy move, was a foolhardy move.
Yes the time is close when all USA and British and Nato troops will be out of Afghanistan like we are in Iraq, and those two countries will go back to fighting among the religious "sects" of those two nations, just as it has been before. Yes, now they are saying Iraq is close to civil war.
It's all happened as I said it would, way back when the two "B" boys decided to make war with the enemy on the enemy's soil.

USA "James Bond team" do it again!
So the special trained team of the special USA, I call them, the "James Bond team" did it once more in rescuing two people from the kidnappers of Somalia.
And these guys are trained like no others.... just incredible training they get. Out of all that start the training only a small number ever finish, so demanding is the training, like as one example being under water for 2 minutes without one air bubble coming to the surface.
Well done you guys...well done.
......
The nations and Billionaires meet in the "World Economic Forum" in Switzerland, once more to see if they can find a way out of the financial mess and economic trouble much of the world is in. It looks like Greece will default so they say, and that would be devastating for Europe and hence then for the rest of the Western world.
It is interesting days for sure that we live in; it is all a part of the time of the end and what prophecy says will come to pass as we head for the end of this age, in God's appointed time.
......
A new 50 year, 250 thousand people study has come out on the subject of the heart and death from heart troubles that we are increasingly getting way before our heart should stop functioning. It mainly comes down to what they have really know now for a few decades: smokers have more heart troubles; and those who do not eat, and live correctly within the laws of good health. so it means correct diet, healthy eating; keeping the weight off, keeping within our weight range for our height and bone structure and age, with regular exercise; last but not least - having a stress free life, which regular exercise helps in getting the stress bugs out.
Sure all the above 4 areas can be amplified in many ways, but the amplifications all end up in those 4 areas of living healthy and not have heart problems way before our due time, which translates into living at least the average life span which is now, for the Western world, about 80 years.

Obama - State of the Union Address !!
WOW....WOW....I must say President Obama delivered a message to the State of the Union, the best I've heard for decades.
If the USA can work together on all the physical things he brought out and the vision and restructuring of that which needs remodeling......then indeed the USA is BACK, or will be back on the world scene as without question number ONE.
On the physical side of all that he talked about....truly the prophecy so long ago that God promised in the book of Genesis to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph, that in the last days the greatest single nation this earth has ever seen in its entire history - the United States of America - would come from the son of Joseph as given in Genesis 48.
If the Democrats and Republicans can work together, on the physical things brought out by President Obama, in a very powerful and upbeat and forceful speech, then indeed America WILL BE BACK, for a while at least, until end time prophecy must be fulfilled, in God's time plan.

FANATICAL "church" Spirits !!
DEFEATING THE RELIGIOUS SPIRIT
OF THE WRONG SPIRIT
In every wholesome pursuit, imbalanced ones impose their
fanatical views.
by Brian Knowles
I don't know about you, but I believe there is such a thing as a
"religious spirit." It can be a mere mentality or an actual
spirit that manifests itself in obsessive fanaticism. The net
effect of such a mentality is to turn others off to God and true
faith. The religious spirit is not limited to Christianity; it
can manifest itself in any religion. It can also find expression
in political ideology, science, religious humanism, or even
medicine. We've all known excessively religious Christians who
indiscriminately follow television personalities as though they
were in the place of God. This "follower" or "true believer"
mentality encourages cults of personality that can wind up in a
People's Temple/Jim Jones-style cult, which proved fatal for
hapless hundreds. In the latter half of the twentieth century, we
saw a number of such cults arise: the Moonies, Branch Davidians,
and Heaven's Gate, to name a few. These groups were egregiously
fanatical. Others are less overt but equally obsessive.
Typically, they have circled the wagons around the teaching of
some domineering leader, upon whose every word they hang. All
that drips from the self-important leader's lips is viewed as
gospel. Followers accept his or her teaching as though it were
straight from God himself.
The leaders of such groups will often claim that their teaching
comes directly from God. To challenge them is to challenge God.
Followers are cowed into cringing submission, and the noose of
cultic rules is drawn ever tighter. The faithful are forbidden to
have contact with "outsiders," even if they are family members.
Leaders take charge of their followers' money, time, and
activities. Most importantly, they commandeer the minds of the
faithful.
Every religion, including secular ones, has its dark side. Every
one can lead to an obsessive religious spirit and mindless
fanaticism. Follow the money, follow the power, and study the
control freaks of the world, and you'll see what's happening.
Here are some scriptural guidelines for avoiding possession by,
or involvement with, the religious spirit.
Key questions
Is it idolatrous? Any movement that puts anyone or anything ahead
of God is idolatrous. Avoid it. God says, "I am the LORD [YHVH];
that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise
to idols" (Isaiah 42:8). True faith is centered on God, Yeshua,
and divine instruction, not on human personalities, movements,
ideologies, and cults - environmental or religious.
Does it tend to freedom or bondage?
"To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, 'if you hold to my
teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the
truth, and the truth will set you free'" (John 8:31, 32). If
something is truth, it does not bring you into bondage. Jesus
came to "set the captives free," not to enslave them to anything
or anyone. If we are Jesus' disciples, then we are His "bond
slaves" and no other's. "Don't you know," wrote Paul, "that when
you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are
slaves to the one whom you obey ... ?" (Romans 6:16). If we
submit to no bondage but Christ's, then we will be free indeed.
What are the fruits?
Said Jesus, "A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree
cannot bear good fruit" (Matthew 7:18). Whether something is good
or bad can be determined by what it produces (v.20). If a leader,
a movement, an ideology, or even an idea produces bad fruit,
avoid him, her, or it. If it produces death, destruction,
bondage, loss of freedom, enslavement, economic collapse,
pollution, the destruction of the traditional family, Ponzi
schemes, etc. etc., avoid it. In fact, if you have the means,
actively oppose it.
Beware of isolation
Many religious cults seek to isolate their members from the
world. It is true that Paul warns against unhealthy alliances
with unbelievers, citing Isaiah 52:11 to make his point (2
Corinthians 6:14-17). But Paul's instructions are qualified by
Jesus' own prayer that the Father wouldn't take His followers out
of the world, but protect them from the evil one (John 17:15-19).
Jesus did not want His followers physically separated from the
world. Rather, He sent them into the world to preach the gospel
and to be light and salt. In Greek, there is a play on words
here: "I do not make request that thou shouldest take them out of
the world, but that thou shouldest take them out of the evil." 1
As Christians, we do not participate in Satan's domain or the
evil that it produces. In our lifestyle we are separate, but
physically we live in the world, not in an isolated compound near
the Dead Sea, or Guyana. The word translated "sanctify" is
hagiazo in the Greek. It means to "make holy, consecrate,
sanctify." 2 Bauer says the last sentence of verse 19 could be
translated "I dedicate myself for them (the disciples) ......" 3
Jesus lived in the world, and He fully participated in it
occupationally as a carpenter, socially as a Jew, and spiritually
as a rabbi. He engaged people at every level. He had done so from
childhood. His Father did not hate the world; He loved it so much
that He gave Jesus as a sacrificial gift to save it (John 3:16).
Our possession of the truth of God sets us apart. We march to the
beat of a different drummer. We take our cues from heaven, not
from the spiritual darkness of this world. We are here
collectively to preach the gospel, live kingdom values, and set a
Christ-like example. We do not hide our light under a bushel. We
do not cringe in a corner, geographically separated from those to
whom we are called to serve. As Jesus taught in Mark 2:15-17,
while He dined at Levi's house, it's not the healthy who need a
doctor, but the sick. Jesus and His disciples did not isolate
themselves from these people. They freely mixed with them and
ministered to them. It was such people, and worse, who made up
the church (1 Corinthians 6:9-11).
Perilous plague
The religious spirit is a plague in the world. It is destructive,
isolating, fanatical, crazy-making, alienating, and distorting.
It invites the "darkness of this world" to express itself. It
manifests itself in Christian cults, in fanatical Catholics and
Protestants, in all the world's religions, in the global warming
and environmental movements, in animal and gay rights movements,
in feminism, in Neo-Nazi groups, in evangelistic communism, in
terrorism, in the natural health movement, in political
ideologies, in science, in the medical profession ad nauseum.
The religious spirit represents a loss of balance, a closing off
of any other possibility. It is exclusivist, saying, "My way or
the highway." It is "zeal, but not according to knowledge." It is
obsessive, closed-minded, and bigoted. It needs to be fought and
defeated at every turn.

IDOLS in the Church !!
[Church life] From the Church of God, Seventh Day, Denver, CO.
USA.
Are we in danger breaking the commandment and don't even know it?
by Bob Hostetter
King Ahaz wasn't looking for trouble, necessarily. He had imply
traveled to Damascus to pay homage to Tiglath-Pileser, the
Assyrian king who had recently come to Ahaz's aid. There, a pagan
altar caught his eye, and he sent back instructions to Uriah, the
priest of God at the temple in Jerusalem.
"So Uriah the priest built an altar, just like the plans King
Ahaz had sent him from Damascus. Uriah finished the altar before
King Ahaz came back from Damascus. When the king arrived from
Damascus, he saw the altar and went near and offered sacrifices
on it. He burned his burnt offerings and grain offerings and
poured out his drink offering. He also sprinkled the blood of his
fellowship offerings on the altar. Ahaz moved the bronze altar
that was before the Lord at the front of the Temple. It was
between Ahaz's altar and the Temple of the Lord, but he put it on
the north side of his altar" (2 Kings 16:11-14, NCV). Ahaz didn't
have the bronze altar, the altar of God's house, moved out of the
temple. He simply had it moved aside, and placed the new altar in
the temple as well.
We may be doing much the same thing in our churches. We haven't
turned our backs on the one true God or stopped worshiping Him,
but we have allowed some of the pagan idols that surround us to
creep into the sanctuary. Sometimes we have lugged them in
ourselves. And some we have even placed in prominent places.
We don't keep a golden calf in our vestibule or chant prayers
to an image, but that doesn't necessarily mean that our lives are
free of idols. It may just mean that our idols are more subtle.
It may mean that the idols we worship, we worship in ignorance,
as the ancient Athenians did (Acts 17:23). Here are a few of the
most common.
Consumerism
We shop around until we find a church we like. It's natural to
consider practical needs when evaluating a church and its
ministries. But in doing so, we become consumers and not
followers of Him who said, "For even the Son of Man did not come
to be served, but to serve ..." (Mark 10:45, NASB).
The idol of consumerism goes deeper than that, however. We attend
for a while and eventually join - until something happens.
Perhaps the pastor failed to visit us in the hospital. Or the
lady in the nursery snapped at us when we were late picking up
our children. Or the church grows to a point where we don't feel
"at home" anymore.
So we move on. We find another church, until something happens
there. And then we move on again. Through it all, we treat the
body of Christ like a mall or a health club, instead of seeing it
as God sees it: as a community, a family, a body.
Celebrity worship
Walk into any Christian bookstore and many churches, and you'll
see that we Christ-followers are as prone to celebrity worship as
everyone around us - perhaps more so! We idolize famous ath-
letes, authors, preachers, singers - not primarily because of how
God uses them but just because they're famous. And sometimes we
rush from church to church or conference to conference following
not God, but the "anointing" we believe that person has. Author
Marva Dawn writes: The danger of such "fame" became apparent to
me several years ago when a teenager who had heard me speak at a
large youth convention saw me in a store in Portland and begged
for my autograph. I asked her why my signature was more valuable
than hers. We are all equally significant members of the Body of
Christ, are we not? We all have crucial parts to play in the
church's ministry to the world. The Church should be the last
place where anyone is thought to be more important than anyone
else.
Excellence
Many evangelical churches have bought into a culture of
excellence that values the flawless, flashy performance, the
charismatic personality, the insane pace. Spiritual director
Kasey Warren Hitt says, "Working as a youth pastor in a large,
growing church that had a high level of excellence was
exhilarating at first. It felt professional, a cut above the
rest. I believed we had figured out how to make the Gospel of
Grace attractive, through the most relevant music, drama, decor
and message. But I couldn't escape the feeling that something was
not quite right. Looking back after a battle with burnout, it
dawned on me: we preached and performed grace, but our lives did
not reflect grace, neither for us nor for anyone else. Therefore,
it felt like a false invitation, something we knew in word, but
not deed."
America
America itself is a prominent idol in many evangelical churches.
Author and pastor Mike Erre writes "Call it patriotism, call
it activism, call it anything you want, but all too often it's a
thinly disguised form of idolatry. We're fortunate to be
Americans, and we can afford to be justifiably proud of our
nation. But it's so easy to step across the line when singing the
praises, not of God, but of America and the American way."
Bob Russell cites what one man wrote when he heard that flags
were about to be removed from the church sanctuary and used only
for special events. "As a member of this church and a U.S. Navy
veteran, I challenge the authority and necessity of taking down
the American Flag and the Christian Flag from the Sanctuary. What
kind of church are we becoming?"
Success
How ironic that churches, pastors, and church members who claim
to follow the One who talked repeatedly about seeking out last
place (Mark 9:35), taking the lowest position in a social setting
(Luke 14:10), and including the least "important" people in your
plans (v. 13) seem so enamored of size and success. Pastor and
author Jim Kallam points out:
"Scan ads in Christian periodicals and you'll reach this
conclusion: Success can be yours. If you need to know how to
market your church, try this or that program .... Listen to how
we describe churches. Our words ooze success: 'Fastest growing
church in the Southwest.' 'Largest in their denomination.' 'The
church with the key to reaching the next generation.'"
Kallam goes on to mention a book that identifies the top one
hundred churches in America. Think about that. Do you doubt that
size, prestige, and fame were among the criteria for making the
list?
Casting down our idols
These are just some of the idols that have crept into our
churches. They may be harder to recognize than a golden calf, and
harder to correct. But our modern American idols are as abhorrent
to God as the idols that tempted ancient Israel. If we don't do
something about them, they will corrupt and devastate us just as
they did the Israelites.
So how do we cast down our idols?
The first step is acknowledgment. When we recognize an idol, we
must be humble and repentant, call our pet idolatries by their
proper name - sin - and confess each to God.
Once aware of an idol, we must not only refuse to bow to it any
longer but also avoid reinforcing it. We must clearly and
consciously "set apart Christ as Lord," even as we are careful to
make our case "with gentleness and respect" (1 Peter 3:15, NIV).
Russell says one way to accomplish that in the church is
by using humor whenever possible. "For example, we have three
preachers on our preaching team. I wear a tie when speaking, but
Dave Stone and Kyle Idleman do not. So we frequently joke about
it during the sermon and try to make the congregation see the
levity of it."
Finally, casting down our idols will mean giving ourselves anew
to prayer and devoting ourselves to the cultivation of new
beliefs and new behaviors. We must beg God to replace our false
gods with His sufficiency. We must yield to God our consumer
attitudes and let Him teach us how to serve, how to give our
lives, how to excel in the "grace of giving" (2 Corinthians 8:7,
NIV).
We must turn our backs on celebrity worship and learn instead to
value and imitate the "meek and lowly in heart" (Matthew 11:29,
KJV). We must relinquish our allegiance to "excellence" and
pursue both quality and grace. And we must likewise surrender our
exaltation of America and our embrace of success, asking God, in
the words of the hymn writer:
The dearest idol I have known,
Whate'er that idol be
Help me to tear it from Thy throne,
And worship only Thee (William Cowper, 1772).

We attend

Life and Death Choices
While we cheer pro-life progress, it's no time to give up the
fight.
by Brian Franks
0n the precipice of this new creation He stood, with one more
being to make. He had spoken everything else into existence, but
that would not be enough for this last effort, which would share
His likeness. No, His hands must form His greatest handiwork.
Stooping down to the dust, He gathered and sculpted it into
marvelous form, finishing with His own breath to give it life.
And then He declared it very good.
As the mother watched the procedure on ultrasound, the vacuum
catheter slowly approached its prey, harmlessly floating through
the amniotic fluid of her protective womb. This new creation had
done no wrong, said no words, good or bad. But if allowed to
continue, this life so thoughtlessly begun by its DNA donors
would be inconvenient to them. With the catheter now in position,
the vacuum was switched on and quickly disassembled this one so
fearfully and wonderfully being made. Another soul snuffed out.
Abortion is one of many human acts in which we think we know
better than God. We debate when life begins, thinking that if our
laws decide it's not at conception, then abortion isn't really
wrong.
Life debate
When does life start? Many thinkers regard birth as the
beginning, but science makes no mistake. Pro-abortion geneticist
Ashley Montagu admits, ". . . life begins, not at birth, but con-
ception" (naapc.org). Until prehuman nuclei from a man and woman
merge at conception, there exists only the potential for a human.
The moment they do unite, the resulting cell becomes a new and
unique human being.
An unborn baby has a beating heart, the symbol of life, just
three weeks after conception. That may be only a week after a
woman discovers she's pregnant. All these points are moot to most
Christians. God's Word says that each person's beginning and
identity are found in Him, long before conception. "Before I
formed you in the womb I knew you . . ." (Jeremiah 1:5; see also
Psalm 139:16). The conception that exists in God's mind is long
before we earth-parents get involved.
Abortion is impossible before conception because there is
nothing to abort. If human life begins at conception, then how is
it not murder? To murder is to strike one made in God's image,
though he has done nothing worthy of death. To approve abortion
is to not love our neighbor as ourselves. To abort is to destroy
the handiwork of God, who is "knitting" together that being in
the womb.
Reasons to abort
More incriminating to those who abort are the primary reasons
they do so. Women give three major reasons, according to the
Guttmacher Institute. Three-quarters say that having a baby will
interfere with work, school, or other responsibilities. Another
three-quarters say they cannot afford a child, and half say they
do not want to be single parents or are experiencing problems
with their husbands or partners (Abort73.com - U.S. Abortion
Statistics).
These are matters of convenience. None are life-threatening to
the mother. Politically, abortion may be called "pro-choice," but
the most important choices aren't much considered. The physician
chooses to make money, the parents choose their convenience, and
God's choice is ignored, as is the unborn's. Everyone who favors
abortion has already been born.
If you were the baby in the womb and could talk to your mother
who wanted to abort you, would you agree to it? A woman's right
to choose abor tion tramples the rights of lives that cannot yet
speak for themselves.
Christian response
What should the Christian do in response to the abortion issue?
* Educate yourself. Numerous Christian ministries provide
information on abortion, like Abort73 (abort73.com).
* Speak out. One who knows about evil but does nothing will be
held responsible for his silence (Leviticus 5:1, for example).
This is complicity, from which the word accomplice comes. This
does not mean illogical, raging arguments. Knowing the facts
about abortion, one can argue logically and kindly. Ezekiel (see
33:1-9) was appointed by God as a watchman to sound the alarm
when danger appeared. He was not responsible for how people
responded to the alarm.
* As you lift your voice about abortion, use the opportunity to
speak of the gospel and forgiveness also. Too often we con
demn and stop there. God is the judge, but He also loves to
forgive those who repent. Abortion too is forgivable. The church
is made up exclusively of sinners saved by grace.
* Finally, remember "Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children
a reward from him" (Psalm 127:3). Let us not think that we know
better than God. Let us delight in the gift of children and raise
them in the way everlasting.

Survey on ISLAM
THE CHURCH OF GOD SEVENTH DAY, DENVER, HAS DONE A SURVEY ON ISLAM AND 9/11
Islam and 9/11: Survey Results
As Apart of our ten-year reflection on terrorist attacks in
America, we invited folks to report their own 9/11 experience and
to complete a survey of opinions on Islam (September-October BA,
p. 12). Here we offer our consensus statements of the results of
that survey. Online, you may review a statistical summary of the
survey results and read how the twenty-five respondents answered
our questions.
Cumulative responses to opinion survey on Islam, summarized:
We have a mostly negative view of Islamic faith, tending to
believe that Mohammed is the false prophet of Revelation 16. We
doubt that a majority of the world's Muslims either oppose
terrorism or prefer to live in harmony with people of other
faiths. We believe that Muslim expansionism is a serious threat
to world peace in our time.
We believe that America will experience an increase of permanent
Muslim residents similar to that already seen in Europe and that
this titanic clash of cultures (Islam vs. Christianity) gives us
legitimate reason to fear. Still, most of us agree that
Christians should befriend Muslims in our communities and that
Jesus' teaching to bless and pray for our enemies extends even to
those who would harm us.
We're willing to blame the Koran for the evil deeds of Islamic
extremists, but unable to see how some texts of our Bible (Old
Testament) have been used for violence against Islamic peoples,
the enemies of modern Israel. Muslim terrorists are just doing
what their religion teaches, we usually think, while violent
Christians throughout history must have misused the Scripture.
On the other hand, we're reluctant to say either that most
Muslims cheered the events of September 11, 2001, or that
Christians were right to celebrate the death of Osama Bin Laden.
While we express general support for our country's military
efforts against Islamic terrorists, still we feel there must be a
better solution than war to solve the looming problem.

Vital B3 vitamin !
THE VITAL VITAMIN B3
by Dr. Perricone
Vitamin B3 for Superior Cell Protection
Vitamin B3 is one of eight B vitamins. It is also known as niacin
(nicotinic acid) and has two other forms, niacinamide
(nicotinamide) and inositol hexanicotinate.
The nicotinamide form of vitamin B3 is an extremely powerful cell
protectant and can prevent damage to DNA. It is protective of all
organ systems and can prevent the cognitive decline resulting
from aging and Alzheimer's disease. Nicotinamide is also
protective of blood vessels, preventing inflammation and
subsequent atherosclerosis. It also delays the onset and progress
of diabetes.
This cell-protective agent functions on a mitochondrial level to
prevent apoptosis (programmed cell death), thus saving brain
cells, pancreatic cells, blood vessels, and other vital organ
systems. Nicotinamide's powerful anti-inflammatory effects block
pro-inflammatory cytokines that, in turn, block the progression
of multiple disease processes, including multiple sclerosis,
arthritis, and autoimmune diseases.
Nicotinamide also stabilizes blood sugar and prevents insulin
resistance. This B vitamin also participates in energy production
in the mitochondria. It maintains the integrity of the
mitochondrial membrane, preventing the changes seen with aging.
The most dramatic positive effects are seen in its ability to
protect the genomic DNA from the degradation that is seen with
aging and disease.
Through multiple mechanisms, such as the anti-inflammatory
capability as well as protection of the mitochondria and DNA,
niacinamide significantly increases cell longevity. The powerful
cell-protective action of this single agent holds tremendous
potential for both life extension and the prevention of all
age-related diseases.
..........
I have just looked at the label of my vitamin/mineral suppliment
I take called "MultiSure - For Men Over 50" - and it does NOT
contain vitamin B3. So looks like I will have to look
specifically for this B3 vitamin.

Americas BEFORE Columbus!!
It is to me always THRILLING when NEW historic proof emerges on
the scene to blast away old ideas, concepts, and centuries old
false teachings. I was pleased to kinda stumble across this book
as I was visiting one of our Canadian large book stores in
Calgary. More and more "history" is being re-written and new
books on various histories are coming out it seems each year.
Those of you who love history, the new truths of history, will
love this book - a superb research of what the Americas were like
before Columbus ever set foot on this land. Get ready to turn up-
side-down all you were ever taught about the Americas before
Columbus .... yes this is 1491 and before, way before.

Sun - Times Literary Supplement - New York Times Best Book of the
Year
"A journalistic masterpiece: lively, engaging. . . . A
wonderfully provocative and informative book." - The New York
Review of Books
"Provocative.... A Jared Diamond - like volley that challenges
prevailing thinking about global development. Mann has chronicled
an important shift in our vision of world development, one our
young children could end up studying in their textbooks when they
reach junior high." - San Francisco Chronicle
"Engagingly written and utterly absorbing.... Exciting and
entertaining.... Mann has produced a book that's part detective
story, part epic and part tragedy. He has taken on a vast topic:
thousands of years, two huge continents and cultures that range
from great urban complexes to small clusters of villages, a
diversity so rich that our shorthand word for the people who
inhabited the Americas - Indians - has never seemed more
inadequate or inaccurate." - San Jose Mercury News
"Marvelous.... A revelation.... Our concept of pure wilderness
untouched by grubby human hands must now be jettisoned."
- The New York Sun
"Mann does not present his thesis as an argument for unrestrained
development. It is an argument, though, for human management of
natural lands and against what he calls the 'ecological nihilism'
of insisting that forests be wholly untouched." - The Seattle
Times
"A must-read survey course of pre-Columbian history-current,
meticulously researched, distilling volumes into single chapters
to give general readers a broad view of the subject." - The
ProvidenceJournal
"Eminently evenhanded and engaging.... Mann's colorful commentary
sets the right tone: scholarly but hip." - St. Petersburg Times
"Concise and brilliantly entertaining.... Reminiscent of John
McPhee's eloquence with scientific detail and Jared Diamond's
paradigm-shifting ambition.... Makes me think of history in a new
way." - Jim Rossi, Los Angeles Times
"Engrossing.... Sift[s] adroitly through the accumulating
evidence and the academic disputes. 1491 should be required
reading in all high school and university world history
courses." - Foreign Affairs
An excellent bit of missionary work in relieving the general
ignorance in the West about these once-great American
cultures.... Mann has a facility for translating academese into
laymen's language and for writing about scientific complexities
with a light hand.... There is, incidentally, nothing of
political correctness in this book other than a recognition of
the sensitivity of the issues." - Literary Review
"Monumental.... 1491 is less a self-contained work per se and
more an induction ceremony into what, for many readers, promises
to be a lifelong obsession with the startling new perspective
slowly opening up on this prehistory. What's most shocking about
1491 is the feeling it induces of waking up from a long dream and
slowly realizing just how thoroughly one has been duped.... Mann
slips in so many fresh, new interpretations of American history
that it all adds up to a deeply subversive work." - Salon
"Well-researched and racily written.... Entertainingly readable,
universally accessible.... There are few better introductory
books on the civilizations of pre-Columbian America, and none so
up-to-date" - The Spectator
[A] triumph.... A fascinating, unconventional account of Indian
life in the Americas prior to 1492. - Business Week
"Fascinating.... A landmark of a book that drops ingrained images
of colonial America into the dustbin, one after the other.
- The Boston Globe
Charles C. Mann's groundbreaking work of science, history, and
archaeology, now expanded and updated in this new edition,
radically alters our understanding of the Americas before the
arrival of Columbus in 1492. Contrary to what so many Americans
learn in school, Columbus did not land in a sparsely settled,
near-pristine wilderness. Recent research has shown that Indians
arrived millennia earlier than previously thought and shaped the
lands around them in ways that we are only now beginning to
understand. The astonishing Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan had
running water and immaculately clean streets, and was larger than
any contemporary European city. Native cultures created corn in a
specialized breeding process that has been called man's first
feat of genetic engineering. Perhaps most surprising, many
researchers believe that past Indian cultures created much of
today's Amazon forest. This is a transformative new look at a
rich and fascinating world we only thought we knew.
"A gripping. man-on-the-ground tour of a world most of us barely
intuit.... An exhilarating shift in perspective.... 1491 erases
our myth of a wilderness Eden. It replaces that fallacy with
evidence of a different genesis, exciting and closer to true." -
The Plain Dealer
"Mann tells a powerful, provocative and important story. . . .
1491 vividly compels us to re-examine how we teach the ancient
history of the Americas and how we live with the environmental
consequences of colonization." - The Washington Post Book Word

Great Coconut Oil
Organic Virgin Coconut Oil:
by Dr. Perricone
The Saturated Fat You Should Eat Every Day
Coconut oil is a superfood I have incorporated into my own diet.
I am certain you have heard the dire warnings about saturated
fats, but they are not to be confused with the trans fats in
processed foods. Saturated fats constitute 50 percent of our
cells' membranes, the phospholipid component of every cell. They
strengthen the cell walls, protecting the inside of the cell.
They play a vital role in the health of our bones, protect the
liver from alcohol and other toxins, and ensure the proper use of
the omega-3 fatty acids.
Virgin coconut oil is a medium-chain saturated fat (MCFA) that
speeds weight loss, lowers cholesterol, reduces the risk of heart
attacks, and improves diabetic conditions. MCFAs do not need the
liver and gallbladder to digest them, which means instant energy
and increased metabolic rate through thermogenesis. Coconut oil
is beneficial to the immune system, because it has antimicrobial
and antifungal properties. Coconut oil targets the thyroid and
beefs up the metabolism, melting abdominal fat quickly. I knew I
had to include this powerful nutrient in my weight loss program.

Overweight and Obese
DEFINING OBESITY
by Dr.Perricone
Obesity has traditionally been defined as a weight at least 20
percent above the ideal weight corresponding to the lowest death
rate for individuals of a specific height, gender, and age. A
weight of 20 to 40 percent over ideal weight is considered mildly
obese; 40 to 100 percent over ideal weight is considered
moderately obese; and 100 percent over ideal weight is considered
severely, or morbidly, obese.
The BMI (Body Mass Index)
Another way to determine healthy weight is via the body mass
index (BMI), This number is calculated from a person's weight and
height. BMI, as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, is a fairly reliable indicator of body fat for most
people. BMI does not measure body fat directly, but research has
shown that it correlates well with direct measures of body fat,
such as underwater weighing and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry.

The WONDERS of "Chia" seeds!!
Chia Seeds:
by Dr. Perricone
Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Nutritional Power Food
No discussion of weight loss would be complete without the
omega-3 essential fatty acids. Your body needs the right fats to
burn fats rather then store them. As you learned in chapter 2,
the omega-3s activate nuclear receptors called peroxisome
proliferator-activated receptors, or PPARs. These receptors,
located in the cell nucleus, control blood sugar, the storing and
burning of body fat, and the way energy is used in the body. Re
omega-3s produce a protein known as uncoupling protein 3, which
uncouples oxidative phosphorylation. This results in greater
energy dissipation as heat and a decrease in stored body fat.
Traditionally, I have recommended consuming foods rich in the
omega-3s, such as wild salmon, sardines, anchovies, and so on, as
well as taking high-quality fish oil capsules. I cannot repeat
often enough that the omega-3s are vital to the health of many
organ systems, including the skin, heart, and brain. They are
also indispensable in any successful weight loss program.
I can recommend an outstanding new source of the omega-3s: chia
seeds. I call them "new" only because they are new to the
majority of us, but chia has been used for centuries. I have been
working with the Green Foods Corporation to introduce these
remarkable seeds, which, as you will soon discover, are
unsurpassed for increasing energy, endurance, and much more.
The seeds of the chia plant (Salvia hispanica L.) are a
concentrated source of high-quality macronutrients required by
the body: omega-3 fatty acids, dietary fiber, high-quality
complete protein without gluten, and low-glycemic carbohydrates.
This outstanding combination of nutrients ensures that I enjoy at
least one serving of chia seeds daily.
I suggest that you sprinkle chia seeds on salad, veggies, fruits,
cottage cheese, yogurt, main dishes-wherever you can-to take
advantage of their tremendous health benefits. They are basically
without taste and add crunch when used in this way. They absorb
fluid, so if you mix chia seeds in water, they will form a gel,
which will add body to salad dressings, sauces, and cooked
dishes.
Though micronutrients support all biochemical processes in the
body, they are more involved in the structural components of
cells and tissues. For example, omega-3 fatty acids are vital
components of cellular membranes, while amino acids from protein
are needed as integral structural components of muscle tissue,
connective tissue, and enzymes, among other functions.
Chia seeds contain micronutrients including substantial amounts
of vitamin E and other antioxidants that offer twofold
protection, protecting our body and its natural oils from
oxidation. Chia seeds are also a good source of bone-building
minerals, including calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus, and
contain a high level of lignans, phytochemical compounds that act
as phytoestrogens. Lignans also possess anticancer properties.
Not only are chia seeds nutritious, they are nonallergenic,
contain very little sodium, are gluten-free, and, unlike flax
seeds, have been granted GRAS (generally recognized as safe)
status by the FDA. Since they possess so many healthful qualities
without any known drawbacks, they are gaining well-deserved
popularity as a superfood.
Although chia seeds are relatively new to the world food market,
they have been a staple food for the peoples of Mexico for
centuries. Chia seeds form a hydrophilic colloidal suspension
(gel) in water because of their high soluble fiber content. They
slowly release their nutrient content and water into the
digestive tract for absorption and utilization over extended
periods. This provides an even and sustained source of nutrition,
hydration, and energy for the body as the gel passes through the
digestive tract. Chia seeds were highly valued as an endurance
food because of this attribute by the Mayans and Aztecs and are
still used today as food in Mexico and the southwestern United
States. The ability of chia seeds to form a hydrophilic gel helps
in maintaining normal blood sugar levels and promoting gentle
detoxification by physically cleaning the lining of the digestive
tract during transit.
The Ideal Ratio of Omega Fatty Acids
Chia seeds are an excellent source of both of the essential fatty
acids (EFAs), linoleic acid (LA), and the omega-3 fatty acid
alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). In fact, chia seeds provide the
highest amounts of vegetarian omega-3 fatty acids. They have an
ideal omega-6-to-omega-3 ratio of 1:3. Though all omega fatty
acids, including omega-3, -6, and -9, contribute to our health,
our modern dietary habits often result in many people consuming
diets with both an unbalanced ratio of EFAs and not enough
omega-3 fatty acids. There are many fatty-acid chemical
structures but only two kinds of essential fatty acids: omega-3
and omega-6. Both the absolute and the relative amounts of these
fatty acids consumed per day are important, since omega-6 fatty
acids may interfere with some of the actions of omega-3 fatty
acids, including their anti-inflammatory benefits.
Omega-3 Benefits
Both EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid)
omega-3 fatty acids are essential to our health. DHA is the most
abundant fatty acid in the brain and retina, and low levels of it
are associated with a decline in learning and memory (which are
reversed by the addition of DHA to the diet), age-related
cognitive decline, and Alzheimer's disease. In addition, DHA's
ability to lower blood fats, known as triglycerides, helps
protect against heart disease. Since cardiovascular function and
blood flow are often impaired in people with senile dementia, DHA
may help improve age-related cognitive decline in two ways:
directly, by supporting nerve cell structure and function, and
indirectly, by increasing the availability of nutrients to brain
cells through improved circulation.
Studies investigating the evolution of human dietary patterns
suggest that the human diet had a ratio of about one to one of
omega-6 to omega-3 EFAs at least until the advent of agriculture.
Unfortunately, our modern fast-food diet is extremely top-heavy
in omega-6 vegetable oils, resulting in an unbalanced ten-to-one
or higher ratio. Add to this the high amounts of saturated fats,
trans fats, and nutrient-deficient foods present in the typical
American diet, and it is clear why many people in the United
States are overweight or obese and deficient in their levels of
omega-3 fatty acids, which places them at high risk for chronic
diseases during their later years. An unfavorable ratio-high
omega-6 to low omega-3 EFA-can lead to increased inflammation
throughout the body, which may be the leading culprit in the
development of chronic diseases and, as you know, wrinkled,
sagging skin.
Increasing the intake of omega-3 fatty acids and reducing omega-6
fatty acids may help prevent excessive inflammation by inhibiting
the expression of a gene involved in the production of
inflammatoryrelated proteins and help lessen the risk and/or
progression of chronic diseases.
Unfortunately, it is often difficult for people to consume a diet
that contains a favorable ratio of essential fatty acids, since
much of our food supply is heavily skewed toward fast foods,
dairy products, and meat, which are high in omega-6 fatty acids
and low in omega-3 fatty acids.
ABOUT MEAT
It's time for me to make a point about meat. We have been told
that red meat has an unhealthy nutrient profile. This is true if
we are talking about agribusiness and grain-fed cattle raised on
feedlots. If you have access to 100 percent grass-fed,
pasture-raised beef and lamb, the nutrient profile begins to
resemble that of cold-water fish. Grass-fed beef and lamb contain
high levels of omega-3 and conjugated linoleic acid, making this
type of meat a healthy choice.
PLANT FOODS
The good news is that people are becoming more aware of and
receptive to the value of adding more plant-based foods including
fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, and legumes to their diets. Not
only will this help increase the intake of omega-3 fatty acids
and shift the balance back to a favorable, noninflammatory ratio
of omega-6 to omega-3 EFAs, but eating more plant-based foods
will improve a person's antioxidant and overall nutritional
status. Increasing the amount of omega-3 EFAs while decreasing
omega-6 EFAs in the diet can help control inflammation, support
cardiovascular and neurological function, promote tissue repair
and rejuvenation, and may also help regulate cholesterol, sugar
levels, and blood pressure, all of which lower the risk of
chronic disease and enhance vitality.

fluid, so if you mix chia seeds in water, they will form a gel,
which will add body to salad dressings, sauces, and cooked

ABC 20/20 and Cruise Ships
Tonight - Friday January 20th 2012, ABC 20/20 had an hour long program on "Cruise Ships."
If I had any thought (which has crossed my mind now and then) of taking a Cruise on any Cruise Ship to anywhere, tonight's program by 20/20 has cast it out of my mind forever.
When I came to Canada in May 1961 I chose to come via Cruise Ship - one of the Cundard ships back then. When I compare my memories of that Cruise Ship and compare the Cruise Ships of today as shown by 20/20 .... well to compare .... I would say it is like comparing a grade one class to a University. The University being the Cruise Ships of today. A MASSIVE HUGE difference!
My 1961 ship was about 1/10 the size, had one entertainment, dance room; I do not remember if it had even a swimming pool, if it did I never used it. I do remember it had a movie theater which I did use. There were no people constantly carrying alcoholic drinks around and tempting you to buy and drink, as they do on Cruise Ships today. And back in 1961 the society was more moral and in control; there was no drunks wandering up and down or staggering around the dance floor or getting into fights, as can be common on Cruise Ships today.
20/20 brought out the side that few "cruise people" know about and certainly do not see - the below the water line, off limits to the cruise public - just for the ship's staff, and as one very experienced "cruise staff guy" (he's written 3 books on "Cruising") explained to 20/20, that's where the REAL partying is - the staff getting drunk and having sex - saying what goes on there would make a certified "brothel" look like a Nunnery!
So with the HUGE populations of these Cruise Ships today, the sicknesses that could erupt, the drunks, the fighting that often happens, and the knowledge of what is going on below the water line .... and everything else 20/20 brought out .... NOPE not for me, and I would say not for the true Christian to put their money into. We are just not living in 1961 .... it's 2012 and much more wickedness and sin and corruption and evil, going on, on today's Cruise Ships.
The true Christian can find better ways to have a holiday than help the Cruise Ship business stay afloat, if the ship does not hit a rock like the recent one off the Italian coast, and sink (part or all).

The MESS we're in - in Afghanistan!
So 4 French soldiers have been killed by the ones - the Afghanistan ones that they were training.
Now it's being told that since 2007 about 60 of Nato/American soldiers have been killed by the ones they were training.
The cultural differences and etc. as to what they say, lead up to men being trained by Nato and USA soldiers is to killing Nato and USA soldiers.
The killing of 4 French soldiers by the ones being trained is not new. Now we have this fact to add to all the rest of the facts that going over to Iraq and Afghanistan to fight "the enemy" on their own soil, was a silly and uneducated move by the two "B" boys (Bush and Blair of the USA and Britain respectively).
It's one thing to fight with bombs and drones, but hand to hand combat in a desert mountain land, where the enemy have lived for decades and know how to survive, move out, disappear, bide time, and strike again .... well now even the ones we are training to attack and kill our enemy are killing us.
The French President is putting a hold on things for his troops and may well it is said, pull all French troops out. Who can blame him for doing so, when even the one your "schooling" becomes your enemy.

Weight control - 8 hours sleep!
CLOCK WORK
THE KEY TO BEAUTIFUL SKIN AND HEALTHY WEIGHT
by Dr. Perricone
I have often written about the importance of sleep for health and
beauty, including numerous blogs on the Huffington Post.
Providing a wonderful service to readers of her blog, Arianna
Huffington has been very vocal about the importance of sleep.
Right after New Year's, Arianna posted a Sleep Challenge 2010 to
raise awareness about the serious problem of women suffering from
sleep deprivation. Now more than ever, women have tremendous
demands on their time and, as a consequence, suffer greatly from
the lack of sleep. As you will discover, insufficient sleep
seriously disrupts our health, our weight, our sense of
well-being, and our skin.
Sleeping Beauties
As some of the world's most beautiful and talented actresses
converged on the red carpet at the 2010 Oscars, many wondered how
they did it, looking so radiant and wonderful despite the
grueling schedules they keep. This year's nominees included Helen
Mirren, Sandra Bullock, Meryl Streep, Penelope Cruz, Mo'Nique,
Carey Mulligan, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gabourey Sidibe, Vera Farmiga,
and Anna Kendrick, whose ages ranged from the early twenties to
the early sixties, proving once again how ageless beauty can be.
Regardless of age, each star has her own unique style. And though
I cannot profess to know their secrets, I can share with you some
of my own secrets for radiant skin and a healthy body weight - it
all starts with our internal clock and a good night's sleep.
We humans are creatures of habit, for better or worse. We like to
eat our meals at the same time, go to bed at the same time, and
so on. There is an excellent reason for this. We all need to
follow a daily circadian rhythm - that is, a rhythm based on the
twenty-four-hour cycle, the time it takes the earth to make a
full rotation on its axis.
For thousands of years this was not a problem: humans went to
sleep when the sun went down and arose when the sun came up. But
those days are long gone. It has become apparent that this is not
a positive change, as scientists have discovered that disruption
of this cycle causes us to develop a number of metabolic
discords.
Staying up too late, snacking throughout the day, and skipping
meals all upset the genes that control daily rhythms in the brain
and throughout the body. One important finding is that the
"clock," which scientists thought was only in the central part of
the brain, is also present in the part of the brain that controls
appetite. In fact, biological clocks function not only in the
brain but in many other parts of the body as well. They govern
not only the sleep cycle but also functions including fluid
balance, body temperature, oxygen consumption - and now, it has
been shown, appetite. Researchers at Northwestern University and
the Howard Hughes Medical Institute have identified wide-ranging
molecular and behavioral changes in mice that have a faulty
circadian system. In people, similar changes in body fat and
metabolic activity are known as metabolic syndrome.
Fred W. Turek, a member of the research team, stated that the
study provided new genetic evidence that physiological outputs of
the biological clock, sleep, and appetite are interconnected at
the molecular and behavioral levels.
This research data give new credence to the concept that we are
creatures of habit. Perhaps more important, it establishes the
fact that we need to follow a regimen in our daily lives, one
based on cycles as primary as the rising and setting of the sun,
to which humans have been acclimated since the dawn of
civilization. Though it is not practical to go to bed with the
sun, it does make sense to get up with it (do not agree with
either view on this and have not followed it at all, and if you
just stop and use some common logic and think about sunsets and
sunrising in your area the year round, you will also see it is
rather silly to try and follow the sun for going to bed and
rising from bed - Keith Hunt) and this provides us with a good
excuse not to stay up to all hours and become sleep-deprived. Not
getting sufficient high-quality sleep has been linked to
increased appetite and unwanted weight gain.
(The key is "quality" with correct amount which just about all
experts on health agree today is at least 8 hours - Keith Hunt)
Sleep to Lose Weight
An important study at the University of Chicago demonstrated that
sleep deprivation causes us to overeat, because it disrupts the
balance between two appetite-related hormones - ghrelin and
leptin. When we don't get enough sleep, our levels of ghrelin, a
hormone produced by stomach cells and believed to increase
feelings of hunger, rise. Leptin, a hormone produced by our
fat cells that suppresses appetite and burns fat stores, is
decreased.
Even worse, the most sleep-deprived people in the study craved
fattening, carbohydrate-rich foods, such as cookies, cake, candy,
pasta, and muffins. According to Dr. Eve Van Cauter, the lead
researcher, these cravings are the result of elevated levels of
the stress hormone cortisol. When we are fully rested, our
cortisol levels drop; sleep deprivation has the unfortunate
opposite effect. The study participants also metabolized glucose
less efficiently. Dr. Van Cauter reported that the effects of
sleep deprivation on glucose metabolism are similar to those
found in the elderly. She therefore concluded that chronic sleep
deprivation may have long-term harmful effects on the body - not
the least of which are weight gain and possibly accelerated aging
as well.
As with exercising, we need to establish regular, healthy habits
and regimens. We should strive to get close to eight hours of
sleep per night and learn not to skip meals, including breakfast.
(Skipping meals depends on your age, work, and body metabolism.
After age 40 I could not eat three meals a day as I did up to age
40 - the weight was gaining, which it never did before age 40.
Then after age 60 if was even more so. That is how it worked for
me, you may be different, but I have just one main meal a day
now, and "snack" here and there, if I'm to keep my weight in
check. So this three meals a day stuff must have a "context" -
and the context can change, hence your intake must change or you
could become fat or obese even - Keith Hunt)
Implementing these simple rules will eliminate the
proinflammatory habits we tend to fall into and help us achieve
and maintain optimum weight.
..........
Everyone is different and you must guage your difference at any
age level and adjust accordingly, if you are to maintain your
correct area of weight, based upon your height, bone structure -
large, medium, small, and metabolism, and age. What all agree on is
that we all need about 8 hours of good sleep per day.

Sarah Burke's hospital bill paid!
The Canadian 29 year old Sarah Burke died yesterday from her injury as I reported; her injury from practicing for a competition on the sky half-pike (I think it is known as) sport, in the USA.
She was in a USA hospital for 9 days. The sports federation she belonged to .... well it did not cover her for this one as it was a "private" competition, whatever all that is about .... technicalities of the "sports world" or whatever.
So the bill for her USA hospital cost was about 200 thousand dollars. I guess it was mentioned around the world, and would you believe WITHIN 12 HOURS the world sent 240 thousand dollars for her family to cover the USA hospital cost. The family has told the world please do not send any more money....WOW....now that is quite something....that the people of the world would in 12 hours send 240 thousand dollars. The money left will go into a "trust-fund" for serve other athletes.
Sarah was one of the main people that pushed the Olympic "people in power" to allow the "women" the sky-half-pike in the next Winter Olympics.
I know some are wondering if such "tricky-skilled" sports should be done at all. But then where would you draw the line; I mean I guess you could get killed playing Football, Soccer, Hockey, Baseball, Cricket, Golf .... I mean freak things happen, people fall off their bike and kill themselves, or off a horse.
Now back to the 200 thousand dollars hospital bill in the USA. If she had been in Canada or Britain there would have been no 200 thousand dollar bill.
Oh I know people like Mark Steyn and thousands, maybe tens of thousands, I guess millions really, in the USA think Canada is "socialistic" country because we have a National Health Care System, that is not perfect for sure (one young Canadian lady I know is going through to be a nurse, but doing it in Britain; she says the British Medical System is far batter than the Canadian one), but it would not have cost the Burke family 200 thousand dollars for Sarah's 9 days in the hospital if it had happened in Canada.
The USA despite their so-called "freedom" and vanity to proclaim it, they are not really that free. Why they have an "inheritance tax" (so do a lot of countries they tell me) but we Canadians HAVE NO SUCH THING! How about that for freedom people of the USA.
My Dad has been in the hospital since December 5th 2011 after his "stroke" - they look after him just super good. He will remain there until they find him a 24/7 care facility, and it is not costing him or I one cent!! I've even offered (as now being his power of attorney) to pay them the $900 (it's based on his income) it will cost him when he goes into the 24/7 care facility. They so far said he does not have to pay anything.
NOW THAT IS FREEDOM!!!
The USA is NOT FREE in many ways. Two ways I've mentioned .... hospitalization and inheritance tax.
They are not free in many other ways also. Mr. Romney who is running to be the Republican's guy to run on the White House, said last week when asked about "money he gets from 'speeches'" answered "Well it's not much." His "not much" turned out to be $350,000 - 350 plus thousand dollars. Ya he's free to think 350 plus thousand dollars ain't much.
The USA is not free in many ways, because they have turned their back on true "Christian religion" which they never had much of to begin with. But what little they once had they have thrown out of the window, and though the Republicans are supposed to be the party of "Christianity" and doubt if ANY of the guys left running to be their champion, have a clue about what the Bible says, let alone trying to live by its every word as Jesus taught we should (Matt.4:4).
Well it was the kindness of the world's people that paid for the hospital bill for Sarah Burke, and not the so-called "free" USA.

Etta James....WHO???
SORRY for you who know who she was (dying today at 73).... but I'D NEVER HEARD OF HER!!!
She was my generation (as I'm 70 on September 11th this year).
BUT I'D NEVER HEARD HER NAME UNTIL TODAY ON THE EVENING NEWS.
She was never even in the top 20s hit parade music in Britain (and that top 20s covered all types of music) in the 1950s when I was a teen.
Came to Canada at 18 and still until today NEVER heard of Etta James.
Well maybe part of the answer is I'm NOT a blues guy. Don't listen to it, never have, never will. Just not into "the blues" singers. So never heard of Etta James.
She is supposed to have "revolutionized" singing and been the kinda founding figure of many "gal" singers today. Well I don't listen either to "modern" singers .... don't care for the modern female (and men also) singers, so I guess no wonder I never heard of Etta James.
Let's be honest here, if you asked the British, the Canadians, the Australians, the Europeans who Etta James was, unless you're asking a "blues" person, no one would know!!!
There is a thing that is a "culture" thing with the USA, they makes "stars" out of who they want to make stars out of, even if the rest of the world has no idea who they are, or never has them on their "hit parade" ...... well sorry, maybe Etta James was a "blues singer" and popular or known in the "blues world" but famous around the world JUST NOT SO!!
Now if you want to know WHO was the GREATEST female singer of the USA in the 20th century, and WAS KNOWN AROUND THE WORLD .... it is CONNIE FRANCIS!! The variety of songs she could sing, did sing, from pop, to love, to jazz, to country, to rock'n roll ..... CONNIE is the QUEEN. No one comes close to her in the female singing world.
Ah, okay, for you younger ones who ain't heard of Connie Francis, then go to my Youtube (1horsesrcool) and you'll find a few hundred of her songs there.
Now you listen to them all, and tell me if any female singer comes even close to all that Connie could do with her voice.
Sorry that Etta James had to die so relatively young .... but who did you say she was?
And while we are at this singing issue, today January 20th is the birthday of the GREATEST male singer of the 20th century.....SLIM WHITMAN, who is 88 years young today. And he was and is WORLD FAMOUS!! And has been worldwide known since the early 1950s. And had a HUGE "come back" in the USA from 1980-83. Selling MILLIONS of LPs from TV ads, more than any TV singing ad for anyone (Elvis or anyone advertised on a "TV advertisement").
Oh for you younger ones there are hundreds of songs of Slim on my Youtube (1horsesrcool) .... now you go and listen and tell me if any man can sing that kind of VARIETY of songs. Slim's talent was and is UNQUE!! Oh yes and some "modern" singers going into a "falsetto" ... well it was Slim they got it from, but though some have tried to imitate it, there is only ONE Slim Whitman!!
Connie and Slim are still alive today.
Now when they die, do not be surprised if the USA TV news people do not even mention it, there is this "strange" thing about the USA and who they make heros .... Connie and Slim lived "hero" "good clean respectable lives" "good role models" and the WORLD knows it .... but who did you say Etta James was?

The "Red Tails" movie
This movie opened today in SOME theaters.
WAR is a horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE thing. I doubt if there has ever been a time of total peace on this earth since Cain slew Able. War impacts so many, in varied lives, in many varied ways.
The world will one day have no more wars. There is promised an AGE TO COME, when the nations will learn war no more; no more schools where warfare is taught. There will come a 1,000 year age, after Jesus has returned to put down all waring nations; when Christ will rule all nations on earth, from Jerusalem, and so will come total worldwide peace. The Spirit of the Lord will be poured out on all peoples, and the heart of man will be CHANGED! The knowledge of the Eternal God will cover this earth as the waters cover the sea beds. All this good news is foretold in the prophetic books of your Bible. I expound all those books on my website.
The New Testament Christian CANNOT partake in the wars of this earth; they cannot be a part of a nation's war machine; for MANY different reasons, all of which I go into in detail in my study on my website called "The Christian and Warfare."
Yet, all that being so, on the human level, I must say I do recognize the human bravery and the human courage people have put forth against evil, when mad-men wanted to conquer the world, such as Hitler and his clones wanted to do in the Second World War.
Then there has been (maybe still is here and there) the DARK side of American history .... the slavery and then the "racism" for decades upon decades towards the African American Blacks.
Many movies have been made in one way or another depicting the vivid racism of America (using the term "America" here to mean the USA) history. It is truly a horrible stain on the birth and rise of the greatest single nations the world has ever seen.
Then within all that context there has risen some individuals or groups of individuals that have stood up to be counted as we say. They stood strong against the racism of the USA, still believed in themselves, educated themselves, and went on to prove whatever the white man could do, so the black man could do also, and sometimes do even better.
This movie is about a group of men, black men, who educated themselves, learned the skill of flying war planes, and were just waiting, wanting, a time to be given to them, when they could show their bravery and skill and courage, against the evil of Hitler.
The movie "Red Tails" is about those black men; the movie is based upon the overall facts of that black-man squadron in the Second World War. Yes some parts are a dramatization (maybe the American black-man and Italian girl falling in love), but the basic facts of this group of super combat flying men is all real.
Very well done movie, giving the black man a show-case of their acting ability, as many individual black men and women have done for us in the past number of decades.
We are all the creation of God, whatever our outward skin color, and all then can climb to their God given abilities and talents, in this lifetime.
War is a HORRIBLE thing, oh indeed so, but this movie "Red Tails" is worth seeing, and remembering that in spite of racism in the USA, many black men fought and died to keep America and the world from being crushed under the heel of a mad-man like Hitler.

Kodak Going going....gone!
The mighty Kodak company is pretty well going into history....DEEP in DEBT AND FILING FOR BANKRUPTCY PROTECTION....they just did not keep up as the modern digital world came sweeping over them. But they had a well over 100 years run on the top... time moves on, and will move you out if you do not adapt.

GM is back on TOP out-selling Toyota by 1 million cars in the last year. They were on top for nearly two decades till Toyota pushed them off the top, but GM has re-mastered themselves and done such a great job of it, they are back up on the top - well good for them.

LIfe is indeed PRECIOUS!
Today our Canadian 29 year old Sarah Burke died in the hospital in the USA after 9 days in a coma from a fall in practice, doing her favorite winter sport, where you go from side to side in that U shape ice and do "tricks." Sarah was one of the best in the world, at her sport.
Yes I know many young men and women die each day from all kinds of things, but this just brings it to mind that, yes many sports can be dangerous, or certainly not without risk. And of course many jobs (being in the police or fire departments) have their risk.
I'm a horseman, and even at the age of 70 on September 11th, I like every now and then to just open up my lovely and fast Palomino gal Goldie, and just let her fly, she can do for a short while 40 miles an hour (she's a sprinter - Quarter horse). I also for fun like to jump her, built some jumps, nothing over 3 feet 6 inches, but it can be risky.
So whatever we like to do in sport or for our secular job, there is risk in life ..... I mean even driving around in our cars etc. is risky.
We need to be thankful for each day. Love those you are close to. Use what you have been given to serve others. Make your life of some benefit to others. Just DO something, be a part of something, support something, so your life will have had purpose and will have helped somebody, so people can be thankful you lived.
None of us know when tomorrow is out last day in this physical life, so love and give and serve others.

BALANCE your life in the Sun!!
THE EXTREME NO-SUN-EXPOSURE PRESCRIPTION
by Dr.Perricone
For years I have recommended that people have no unprotected sun
exposure, as have all of my colleagues in dermatology. This
recommendation was made because of the pro-inflammatory,
photo-aging, and cancer-causing effects of ultraviolet light. If
the skin is the only organ we are concerned with, this is good
advice, but dermatologists, like other subspecialists, can often
fail to see the implications of treating a single organ system at
the expense of other vital organs.
We now know that vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin, is produced by
sunlight on the skin. It is then absorbed and circulated in the
bloodstream. Vitamin D is stored mainly in the liver and must be
processed by the liver and kidneys before it is converted to the
active form.
Vitamin D is also present in cold-water fish, another good reason
to consume that delicious piece of salmon. Dietary sources of
vitamin D are often inadequate to meet our minimum needs, and
this is now resulting in an epidemic of subchronic vitamin D
deficiency diseases.
Vitamin D is known to enhance all vital organs and reduce the
risk of all forms of cancer throughout the body. Scientists now
recognize that low vitamin D levels increase the risk of
cardiovascular disease and mental depression, as well as the
obvious disease, osteoporosis. Laboratory tests are revealing
very low levels of vitamin D in adults, increasing our risk for
multiple age-related diseases. Supplementation with vitamin D
capsules is an unexplored area, and I believe will prove to be
nowhere near as effective or safe as getting vitamin D from sun
exposure. I advise my patients to get moderate amounts of sun
exposure, unprotected by clothing or sunscreens, on a regular
basis. This does not mean sitting in the sun until the skin shows
signs of redness. We can slowly increase our exposure as the
protective melanin in the skin increases with repeated exposure.
Each person is different, so use caution and don't overdo it. The
goal is not to get a suntan or bake in the sun.
For sunbathing to be effective, our skin must contain adequate
natural oils. I recommend not showering or bathing before taking
a therapeutic sunbath. After sunbathing, these oils need to be
absorbed into the skin and to enter the tiny blood vessels called
the dermal vasculature, so the deal is not to shower for at least
eight hours after sun exposure. By following this technique, we
can produce thousands of units of vitamin D that the body can
utilize, without the fear of overdose seen with oral
supplementation.
..........
WE NOW KNOW THAT THOSE IN NORTHERN COUNTRIES LIKE CANADA DO NOT GET ENOUGH VITAMIN D FROM THE SUN, BECAUSE NOT ENOUGH DAYS WITH SUNSHINE AND WEARING SHORT SLEEVES AND SHORTS ARE AVAILABLE. NOW IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT PEOPLE IN COUNTRIES LIKE CANADA DO TAKE SUPPLIMENTAL VITAMIN D ALL YEAR ROUND. IF ON A NORMAL DIET WHICH INCLUDES MILK AND CHEESE ETC. THEN ABOUT 500 IU IS RECOMMENDED. AFTER AGE 50 AND ESPECIALLY IF NOT GETTING ENOUGH MILK AND CHESSES ETC. THEY SAY ABOUT 1,000 IU DAILY, AND MAYBE MORE.

Joyful Noise movie
I'd seen the short trailer on this movie and thought yes I'll go to see it.
I was wondering why it was only playing in certain theaters.
Now I've seen it I understand.
It is a quote "Christian" movie - Jesus is spoken and sung about. And "God" does have a central theme.
It brings in some of the issues "Christians" may go through in various stages of life, so teens with this or that issue as well as adults.
There are some nice slow "Christian" songs in it that go with the ups and downs of the people in the movie.
But the bottom line.....it is definitely a "Christian" movie that wants to lead you out of the old traditional ways of worship in song towards the heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ, into the modern LOUD, JIRATE AROUND, and into a "Pentecostal" type of joyful loud noise, with the body and arms and legs going all over the place. And so you have the loud rock beat, with the usual that goes along with it in such noise (the movie is well named - J....NOISE) ..."PRAISE TO BE JESUS, PRAISE BE TO JESUS, I SAID PRAISE BE TO JESUS, YES PRAISE BE TO JESUS....and etc. over and over again.
With many of the church organizations today I guess this movie, especially for the teens, is "in the Jesus grove" as they may put it.
We know David danced joyfully when in his time the ark was brought back to the people of Israel. But the "modern" type of joyful noise praise goes far beyond what the musicians and dancing David and his band of musical players did. This is the typical Pentecostal "work yourself up into a frenzy" and next stage is "out of control" in mind and body.
You think maybe I do not know....you will be wrong. I've been in such Sabbath keeping congregations in my lifetime, and seen it all too dramatically shown, out of control so-called "joyful noise" and I've walked out!!
It is the kind of out of control in mind and body that gives the demons plenty to walk right in and sit right down.
In parts of the Christian world this type of "joyful noise" is growing more and more in popularity; among teens especially.
If it takes this kind of "joyful noise" to keep teens under the name "Christian" then their personal experience with Christ .... it just ain't there. Getting all worked up so mind and body become a blur and words are repeated over and over and over again, like a broken record as we used to say back in "carbon" and "LP" days, then indeed the question must be asked, "Are those teens and people really in a personal relationship with Christ?" For sure some may think they are, but I fear they do not yet see the folly of their mind and body being in such an "out of zone" position. And when everyone else around is doing the same thing, it feeds upon itself, and becomes like a tidal wave of uncontrolled emotions.
Even with good lessons of life the movie brought out, with the overall of its theme I give it two thumbs down!!
..........
Tonight on CBC news they had a 10 minute or so information clip on "re-coloring your eyes" - in a way I did not know existed. Literal implants in the eye, so you can choose what exotic color you desire. But such is NOT available in the USA or Canada. You have to go to some South American country to have the operation. It is very risky and can give you much trouble, even to blindness. Hence North American eye doctors DO NOT recommend you take that route if you want different colored eyes.
About 15 years ago I was at a gas station; went it to pay; a young lady was serving me with these "cannot take your eyes off her out-of-this-world blue eyes." I had to ask her if they were really her natural colored eyes. She said no they were contacts.
Then about 5 years ago there were two CBC TV news cast ladies (not young ladies - going on to middle age ladies) that had been around for years. They came on the TV with these same "out-of-this-world" blues eyes. I emailed them at CBC and asked them if that was their true colored eyes. Never got a reply, but many others must have done the same thing, for shortly afterwards their out-of-this-world blues eyes were gone!
Well if you want to change the color of your eyes, do it with contact lenses and not any implants!!

If you go to see the new movie "My week with Marilyn" remember what you read here, what was going on in her life as she tried to star in "The Prince and the Showgirl" in London, England.
FROM THE BOOK "THE SECRET LIFE OF MARILYN MONROE" BY RANDY TARABORRELLI
Artbur Miller's Damning Journal
In July 1956, shortly before filming was to begin on The Prince
and the Showgirl, something happened that would change the course
of Marilyn's new life with Arthur Miller. She happened to see a
journal of his on a table in the living room, glanced at it - and
then decided to read the pages that were opened. She was in for a
terrible shock. On those pages, Arthur confessed that he had
second thoughts about having married her. She wasn't what he'd
thought she was-she was just a child, not a woman. She wasn't as
intelligent as he had hoped and, in fact, she was someone he
pitied. Moreover, he thought his own career might be jeopardized
by his new association with her, and he wasn't sure what to do
about it. He had heard that Laurence Olivier thought she might be
a spoiled brat, and he didn't know how to respond to that since
he basically agreed. Olivier had been hired by Marilyn - the
movie was being produced by her company - but wasn't exactly
grateful. He couldn't have been any less patient or
understanding. Of course, that Miller seemed to be siding with
him was devastating to Marilyn. It was the realization of her
worst fear-that she would be "found out," that she wasn't as
smart or as talented as she had made him think she was, and now
he knew the truth about her.
"It was a terrible thing for her to find, that journal," Susan
Strasberg would say many years later. "It would set her back a
great deal. She lost so much confidence in herself when she read
that. The question in my mind was this: What was it doing out?
Everyone is entitled to their private thoughts, of course. But to
leave it out and open like that? It made me wonder when I heard
this ... it made me wonder."
It felt to many people at the time that Miller had left the
journal open and available to his wife on purpose. As a
playwright, he certainly recognized the power of the written
word. He had to have known how much his thoughts, once committed
to paper, would hurt Marilyn. Some thought he was acting like a
coward who was afraid to divorce her and just hoped she would
leave him instead. One does have to wonder about Miller's
character. After all, he married Marilyn after having convinced
himself that he and she were a good match, and mere weeks later
he made the decision that she was not for him. It suggests an
enormous immaturity on his part and lack of judgment. Whatever
the case, it seems safe to say he left the diary out on purpose.
Why he did so would be a question only he could have answered -
and he didn't. Marilyn would later tell her half sister,
Berniece, that the marriage was never the same from the moment
she read the journal. When she told her that Miller had written
that she was "a bitch," Berniece was shocked. She couldn't
believe, she said, that Arthur would be so cruel. However,
Marilyn then clarified that what he wrote was that he agreed with
Olivier that she could be a bitch. Somehow that didn't seem much
better to Berniece - nor to Marilyn. Marilyn told her that she
wished she could get past it, but she was certain she would never
be able to do so. She wanted to tell Arthur that he should try
acting with the capricious Olivier and see how that worked out
for him, and she would sit on the sidelines and write about it,
but "I don't have the nerve."
As upsetting as the discovery was, it still would not be the
catalyst for Marilyn to actually leave Arthur. "She had decided
that no matter what happens, I'm staying married to this person,"
said her friend Rupert Allan. "I don't think she realized it was
going to have to kick in so soon. If something like this had
happened after her first marriage, she would have divorced him.
But I think she felt she had something to prove with this third
marriage. But I also think she decided, [Miller] will never again
get all of me. He will only get the part of me I will allow him
to get. Now, I will be careful around him and that shall be his
punishment. He will now be getting a percentage of who I am. The
rest that he would never again see would be the part of her that
was vulnerable."
Mable Whittington recalled an incident that occurred at around
the time Marilyn found Miller's journal. "I knew about the
incident with her finding the diary, or whatever it was. Everyone
in the household knew about it. We didn't know what had been in
it, only that Mrs. Miller saw it and read it and was very, very
upset about it. That same week, I heard a sound in the kitchen
and went down to investigate. There was Mrs. Miller, sitting
alone at the kitchen table, having a cup of tea and a good cry. I
just peeked into the kitchen and stood there watching for a long
while. I thought many things. First of all, I was struck by just
how beautiful she was. She had on a pink robe with marabou
feathers at the neck and sleeves. Her hair, so blonde ... just so
pretty, I thought. I decided not to go into the room, to just
leave her to her privacy. Then, I thought, my, how sad she is.
There was a deep sense of sadness about her, and that's what I
remember most. The sadness. I distinctly recall that, one day,
her psychiatrist showed up from New York. I went into the living
room and there was a strange woman in there reading. I asked
someone who it was and was told, 'That's Mrs. Miller's analyst'
She did seem somewhat better when the doctor arrived, that was
certain.
"I can also say that she was nicer to people when she first
arrived. With the passing of time, she became more brittle and
snappish. She seemed to never have a nice expression on her face
around the house ... she was always deep in thought, frowning.
Also, I recall that she was late to the set almost every day.
Hours late, in fact. The reason I know is that this was a
never-ending source of annoyance to Mr. Miller. There were many
arguments about her being late. Also, she didn't get along with
Laurence Olivier and, I have to say, from my vantage point which
was, admittedly, on the outside looking in-it seemed that she
disliked him a lot. I also remember that Mr. Miller felt that she
didn't understand Olivier and wasn't trying hard enough to fit in
with him. So, there was a lot of turmoil."
Just three weeks into the marriage and, as far as Marilyn Monroe
was concerned, it was over. How could she remain with this man
now? She would have to focus her energy on making the movie and
do what she could to put in a good performance. However, with her
heart broken, it would be very difficult. "It seemed to be
raining the whole time," she would later say of her experience in
England. "Or maybe it was me."
....................
OH MY WHEN YOU SEE THE GREAT PERFORMANCE SHE PUT IN TO DO THAT
MOVIE, AND SO NICE TO SEE A MORE REAL HERSELF, WITH HER REAL
VOICE AND REAL COLOR HAIR, AND YOU KNOW SHE HAD TO DO ALL THIS
WITH WHAT YOU'VE JUST READ ABOUT MILLER AND HIS JOURNAL.
THE TWO MARRIAGES SHE HAD AS A HOLLYWOOD STAR WERE ABOUT AS MIS-
MATCHED AS YOU COULD GET .... NEITHER MILLER OR JOE DIMAGGIO WERE
HER SOUL MATES .... SHE NEVER DID FIND HER SOUL MATE.
SAD TRAGEDY IN SO MANY WAYS WAS THE LIFE OF A BEAUTIFUL AND
TALENTED MARILYN MONROE - IT WAS A TOUGH FIGHT SHE FOUGHT FOR A
WHILE, BUT NEVER FINDING HER SOUL MATE, IT WAS TOO MUCH FOR HER I
GUESS, AND SHE FOUND SHE NEEDED TO END IT ALL IN THE SLEEP OF
DEATH AT AGE 36.
THE AUTHOR OF THE BOOK "SECRET LIFE OF MARILYN MONROE"
INTERVIEWED DEAN MARTIN, IN WHICH DEAN SAID, "I THINK I'VE COME
TO SEE IT WITH MARILYN, SHE WAS TOO INNOCENT TO BE IN THIS
HOLLYWOOD BUSINESS. SHE SHOULD HAVE MARRIED A NOBODY AND HAD MANY
CHILDREN, AND WOULD HAVE BEEN PERFECTLY HAPPY."
WELL MAYBE .... BUT THEN WE WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE MOVIE STAR WHO
WAS CALLED "MARILYN MONROE" THAT THE WORLD STILL LOVES AND
REMEMBERS, EVEN TO THIS DAY.
IN THE BOOK "THE SECRET LIFE OF MARILYN MONROE" YOU'LL DISCOVER
THE REAL GIRL BEHIND THE PLAY ACTING WHEN SHE TURNED ON TO BE
MARILYN MONROE - A LOVING, CARING, GIVING, VERY PERSONABLE LADY,
EVEN AS SHE FOUGHT HER DEMONS ALONG THE WAY.
