Interesting foods!

Interesting and GOOD for you!!

-------------------

Notice God designed different fruits, nuts and vegetables with shapes and colors that indicate their purpose.

CARROTS are good for the eyes and if you slice a CARROT, the cross-section looks like a human eye. Eating carrots won't give a nearsighted person 20/20 vision. But carrots are rich in beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A -- a crucial nutrient for maintaining proper eyesight. Vitamin A deficiency can cause night blindness, says John Allred, a professor of nutrition at Ohio State University. An extreme deficiency can even cause blindness. Vitamin A deficiency is the leading cause of blindness in the Third World. But if you're not deficient in vitamin A, your vision won't improve no matter how many carrots or other beta-carotene-rich fruits and vegetables you eat.

TOMATOES, like most red vegetables, are good for the blood. When you slice a TOMATO open, it has four chambers like the heart, the organ that pumps the blood. The lycopene in TOMATOES is an inhibitor to heart disease. There is also evidence that lycopene can reduce the risk of heart attacks ( New Scientist print edition, 23 December 2000).“Studies have found that because of the lycopene in tomatoes, there is a reduced risk for heart disease in men and women who eat them,” says Somer. And, she adds, if you mix them with a little fat, like olive oil or avocado, it will boost your body’s lycopene absorption nearly tenfold.

WALNUTS have convolutions or folds as well as two lobes that resemble the human brain. WALNUTS are excellent brain food because the contain high content of omega-3 fatty acids. These types of fats are necessary for many functions in the body, but are particularly critical for proper brain and nervous system performance. Brain cells exposed to adequate amounts of omega-3 are able to receive and transmit electrical signals to and from the nervous system better, thus the increase in brain function. Deficiency in omega-3 fatty acids has been linked to a myriad of cognitive problems in both children and adults including:-ADHD-Hyperactivity-Depression-Learning disabilities-Memory loss-Sleep disorders-Poor problem-solving skills. Evidence shows eating walnuts can be of great help to prevent and treat Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia in the elderly. In addition to the omega-3's, walnuts are also rich in many antioxidants that help to prevent and repair brain damage due to free-radicals.

FIGS increase the motility of male sperm and increase the sperm count when men eat them. FIGS overcome male sterility. They have many seeds and hang in sets of two when they grow on trees -- just like testes.

CELERY comes in the shape of bones. CELERY is rich in silicon that is needed for healthy joints, bones, arteries, hair and nails. Celery also contains vitamin K, needed for good bone health. Bones are 23 percent sodium, and so is CELERY. BOK CHOY and RHUBARB also are similar in shape and nutrients to CELERY. If you don't have enough sodium in your diet, the body pulls it from the bones, thereby making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.

AVOCADOS look like the womb and cervix of a female if you slice them open. Eating AVOCADOS provides nutrients for both the womb and cervix. The lightbulb shape of an avocado looks like a uterus, and it supports reproductive health as well. “Avocados are a good source of folic acid,” says Elizabeth Somer, registered dietician and author of Eat Your Way to Happiness. “Folate has been found to reduce the risk for cervical dysplasia, which is a precancerous condition.” One AVOCADO a week balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight and prevents cervical cancer. It takes exactly nine months to grow an AVOCADO from blossom to ripened fruit. PEARS and EGGPLANT are similar in shape.

GRAPEFRUIT -- The similarity between round citrus fruits––like lemons and grapefruit––and breasts may be more than coincidental. “Grapefruit contains substances called limonoids, which have been shown to inhibit the development of cancer in lab animals and in human breast cells,” says Dr. Moulavi.

GRAPES individually look like individual blood cells. RED WINE, which is rich in antioxidants and polyphenols, including powerful resveratrol, looks like blood. “When you drink it, you’re really loading up on the healthy stuff that protects against destructive things in the blood, like LDL cholesterol, which can cause heart disease,” says Somer. “There’s also a blood-thinning compound in red wine, so it reduces blood clots, which are associated with stroke and heart disease.”

GINGER Anyone who’s ever reached for a glass of ginger ale when they’ve had a stomachache knows about the antinausea effects of ginger. So it’s fitting that the herb somewhat resembles the digestive organ. According to Dr. Moulavi, “gingerol, which is the ingredient responsible for ginger’s pungent scent and taste, is listed in the USDA database of phytochemicals as having the ability to prevent nausea and vomiting.”

KIDNEY BEANS actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.

ONIONS structurally imitate the eyes. Both produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eye.

SWEET POTATOES balance the glycemic index of diabetics and happen to look like the pancreas.
