SO I RECENTLY READ "LADIES OF THE CHORUS" (1947) WAS THE FIRST BIG PART FOR MORMA JEANE [LATER TO BE MARILYN MONROE]......A DELIGHTFUL MUSICAL, SONG AND DANCE LOVE MOVIE.
SOME GREAT SINGING BY ADELE JERGENS AND FINE TAP DANCING ALSO.
HAD A GOOD LITTLE COMEDY SCENE AS PART OF A STAGE SHOW.
BUT HERE WAS MARILYN, 21 YEARS OF AGE, AND SINGING TWO FINE SONGS, SHOWED HER TALENT WITH SINGING AND SOME DANCING.
A MARILYN THAT WAS HERSELF....NOT YET CAST BY HOLLYWOOD AS A DUMB BLONDE. JUST HER GOOD NATURAL SELF IN THE PART SHE PLAYED; NICE AND REFRESHING TO SEE.
BUT YES YOU COULD SEE A LITTLE OF THE BEAUTIFUL GLAMOR THAT WOULD EVENTUALLY MAKE HER THE MOST POPULAR FEMALE STAR OF HER TIME, MAYBE ANY TIME, AS SHE MOVED INTO HER EARLY AND LATER 20s.
YOU DO NOT HEAR MUCH ABOUT THIS VERY FINE MOVIE THAT SHOWCASED MARILYN WITH NOT ONLY BEAUTY BUT TALENT.
YES NO WONDER WHEN SHE WENT YEARS LATER [NOW BEING FAMOUS] TO ENTERTAIN THE TROOPS IN KOREA, SOME WALKING 10 MILES TO SEE HER AND HEAR HER SING, AND GAVE HER SUCH WARMTH AND LOVE. THIS MOVIE OF 1947 SHOWS THE STAR QUALITY WAS THERE, AS IT CAME OUT MORE AND MORE IN FUTURE YEARS. SHE SAID ENTERTAINING THE TROOPS IN KOREA WAS ONE OF THE HAPPIEST DAYS OF HER LIFE -- A TOUGH GAL, WILLING TO APPEAR IN A DRESS IN BELOW FREEZING WEATHER, WHICH SHORTLY AFTER GAVE HER PNEUMONIA.
SO FOR A MOVIE THAT IS JUST NATURAL MARILYN MONROE....YOU NEED TO HAVE "LADIES OF THE CHORUS."
OH YES. AS A BONUS, THIS DVD CONTAINS THE 1953 "THE JACK BENNY SHOW" - THE FIRST APPEARANCE OF MARILYN ON TV. AND AGAIN A REAL MARILYN, AND SHE SINGS TO JACK.....VERY NICE.
