HERE WITH MY DAD, YESTERDAY ON HIS BIRTHDAY, WE WERE GOING OVER SOME OF HIS LIFE AND MINE.
WE TALKED ABOUT HIS WORK AND HOME AND GARDEN HE HAD AT ONE TIME. MUCH HE HAS FORGOTTEN SINCE HIS MINOR STROKE 2 YEARS PLUS AGO. BUT SOME THINGS HE REMEMBERS WHEN I BRING IT UP.
HE GETS THINGS MIXED UP SOMETIMES. WHEN I ARRIVED HE THOUGHT AT FIRST I WAS HIS BROTHER GEORGE WHO DIED MANY DECADES AGO. HE SAID, "II THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER SEE YOU AGAIN." WELL HE FINALLY GOT I WAS HIS SON KEITH.
LAST NIGHT AFTER SUPPER HE WAS IN A VERY LAUGHING MOOD, HE WAS THINKING ABOUT THINGS, WOULD START TO TELL US, AND COULD NOT FINISH FOR LAUGHING.
SOME OF THE BRAIN CONNECTIONS GET CROSSED CONNECTED I GUESS SINCE HIS STROKE, THEN THEY STRAIGHTEN OUT FOR A WHILE, AND ALL GOES SMOOTH FOR A WHILE.
TALKING ABOUT OLD STUFF. ONE THING IN MY YOUNG LIFE WAS THAT MY MOM WOULD PUT ME IN THOSE "LEATHER HARNESS WITH LEATHER STANDS" USED BACK THEN SO PARENTS WOULD NOT LOOSE THEIR CHILDREN IN THE MARKET PLACES. WELL I WOULD AS A TODDLER PRETEND I WAS A HORSE. I WOULD ASK TO BE PUT IN THE HARNESS; MY MOM FINALLY SAID NO TO ME, AS SHE SAID, "I WILL NOT BECAUSE YOU ACT LIKE A HORSE ALL THE TIME."
I MUST HAVE BEEN THE ONLY KID WHO WANTED IN THE HARNESS, AND THE ONLY KIDS WHO WAS REFUSED.
WELL WE HAD A FUN TIME TALKING ABOUT OLD THINGS. DAD WOULD REMEMBER THEM AS I BROUGHT THEM UP TO HIM.
YES HE'S DOING WELL OVERALL, AND I PRAY HE WILL HAVE MANY MORE BIRTHDAYS TO COME.
