PASSOVER--- SPIRITUAL SONGS #16

MORE GREAT SPIRITUAL SONGS FOR PASSOVER SEASON

JESUS SAVES

  1. We have heard the joyful sound:
    Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
    Spread the tidings all around:
    Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
    Bear the news to every land,
    Climb the mountains, cross the waves;
    Onward! ’tis our Lord’s command;
    Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
  2. Waft it on the rolling tide:
    Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
    Tell to sinners far and wide:
    Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
    Sing, you islands of the sea;
    Echo back, you ocean caves;
    Earth shall keep her jubilee:
    Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
  3. Sing above the battle strife:
    Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
    By His death and endless life
    Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
    Shout it brightly through the gloom,
    When the heart for mercy craves;
    Sing in triumph o’er the tomb:
    Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
  4. Give the winds a mighty voice:
    Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
    Let the nations now rejoice:
    Jesus saves! Jesus saves!
    Shout salvation full and free;
    Highest hills and deepest caves;
    This our song of victory:
    Jesus saves! Jesus saves!

The congregation should hold onto the words
in italics, hold on till the song leader brings
his hands and arms down.

“Jesus Saves” is often known with its opening line “we have heard the joyful sound”.

The hymn was written by Priscilla J. Owens. She was born on July 21, 1829 and lived in Baltimore, where she worked in the public-school sector. Most of her hymns were written for children’s services with many of her works appearing in the Methodist Protestant and the Christian Standard.

THERE'S  POWER  IN  THE  BLOOD

1 Would you be free from the burden of sin?
There's power in the blood, power in the blood;
Would you o'er evil a victory win?
There's wonderful power in the blood.

Chorus:
There is power, power, wonder-working power
In the blood of the Lamb.
There is power, power, wonder-working power
In the precious blood of the Lamb.

2 Would you be free from your passion and pride?
There's power in the blood, power in the blood;
Come for a cleansing to Calvary's tide;
There's wonderful power in the blood.[Chorus]

3 Would you be whiter, much whiter than snow?
There's power in the blood, power in the blood;
Sin stains are lost in its life giving flow;
There's wonderful power in the blood.[Chorus]

4 Would you do service for Jesus your King?
There's power in the blood, power in the blood;
Would you live daily His praises to sing?
There's wonderful power in the blood.[Chorus]

Lewis Edgar Jones’ most memorable song, “There Is Power in the Blood,” was created while Jones was attending a camp meeting at Mountain Lake Park, MD.  The text and composition were bought by Henry Lake Gilmour.  It was first published in Songs of Praise and Victory, assembled in Philadelphia, for the Pepper Publishing Co. by Gilmour and William James Kirkpatrick.

As a testament to its influence and resonance with Christians, "There is Power in the Blood" has appeared in numerous hymnal publishings throughout the 20th Century and continues to inspire followers of Christ to remember the sacrifice he made.
