THE VERY FINE CANADIAN DOCUMENTARY PROGRAM "DOCZONE" [cbc.ca/doczone]
HAD THIS EVENING A FINE DOCUMENTARY OF THE LIFE OF NELSON MANDELA.
YOU SHOULD WATCH IT.
TWO OF THE FIRST WORLD LEADERS TO SPEAK ON MANDELA AFTER THE NEWS OF HS DEATH, WAS THE PRIME MINISTER OF BRTAIN AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
NO DOUBT MANY OF YOU HAVE SEEN AND HEARD THEIR WORDS.
BBC GAVE US AN INTERVIEW WITH TONY BLAIR [ONCE PRIME-MINISTER OF BRITAIN] AND HIS THOUGHTS ON NELSON MANDELA.
BLAIR SAID WE MUST NOT FORGET THAT MANDELA WAS A VERY FINE POLITICIAN, VERY SKILLED IN BEING A POLITICAL FIGURE AND LEADER.
BLAIR WENT ON TO SHARE WITH US A TIME WHEN NELSON CAME TO HIM AT 10 DOWNING STREET IN LONDON. HE TOLD US HOW NELSON WOULD SHAKE HANDS WITH EVERYONE, THE DOORKEEPER, THE MAIDS, ALL THE STAFF, AND WOULD ALSO TALK TO THEM, AFTER SHAKING HANDS. BLAIR SAID HE WAS INDEED A TRUE SINCERE HUMBLE MAN. THE INTERVIEWER AND BLAIR TALKED ABOUT NELSON'S RECONCILIATION AND HIS WONDERFUL ABILITY TO FORGIVE AND FORGET THE PAST, WHEN HE COULD HAVE HAD SO MUCH TO BE HATEFUL AND ANGRY ABOUT TOWARDS THE WHITE MAN OF SOUTH AFRICA.
BLAIR MENTIONED THAT NELSON HAD A GREAT LOVE FOR BRITAIN, THE QUEEN, AND BRITISH WAYS OF LIFE AND CULTURE.
WE MUST REMEMBER THERE WAS NOT THAT MANY NATIVES IN SOUTH AFRICA WHEN THE WHITE ANGLO-SAXON CAME TO SETTLE THE LAND. THE WHITE MAN BUILT UP SOUTH AFRICA, TO THE POINT THAT OVER TIME MILLIONS OF BLACKS CAME FROM OTHER PARTS OF SOUTHERN AFRICA, FOR A BETTER LIFE.
YES THE WHITE MAN BECAME VERY RACIST, AND HOW THEY HANDLED AND TREATED THE BLACKS WAS DISGRACEFUL BRUTAL, SHOCKING, AND OFTEN IN THE SAME FORM AS WHITES IN THE SOUTHERN USA TEATED BLACKS BEFORE AND DURING THE DAYS OF MARTIN LUTHER KING.
FINALLY THE ANGLO-SAXSON WORLD SMARTENED UP, AND PUT PRESSURE ON THE WHITE GOVERNMENT OF SOUTH AFRICA, TO BRING ABOUT THE UN-CONDITIONAL RELEASE OF NELSON MANDELAR FROM PRISON AFTER 27 YEARS.
THE GREATNESS OF NELSON WAS HIS ABILITY TO FORGIVE, FORGET, TO MOVE IMMDIATELY INTO RECONCILIATION, BETWEEN BLACKS AND WHITES. AS HE HIMSELF SAID, HE WANTED TO SEE A SOUTH AFRICA AT UNITY PEACE, WITH LOVE FOR EVERYONE REGARDLESS OF THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN, TO SEE EQUALITY FOR ALL.
AND AMAZINGLY WITH HIS PERSONALITY, EXAMPLE, AND SPEECHES, HE WAS ABLE TO MOVE A NATION INTO PEACE, RESPECT, LOVE, ONE FOR ANOTHER.
TRUE SOUTH AFRICA STILL HAS MANY PROBLEMS REGARDING EMPLOYMENT AND ELIMINATING POVERTY; SOME LARGE IMPROVEMENTS MADE, BUT NOT FULLY; THEN REMEMBER THE MILLIONS OF BLACKS THAT CAME INTO SOUTH AFRICA; IT WILL YET TAKE TIME AND WORK TO ERADICATE POVERTY.
NELSON WAS RESPECTED BY NEARLY ALL WORLD LEADERS. MET WITH MOST OF THEM OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS. HE WAS VERY CLOSE TO CANADA. HE WAS GRANTED CANADA'S HIGHEST ORDER, THE FIRST TIME TO ANY LEADER OUTSIDE OF CANADA. THE LOVE BETWEEN CANANDA AND SOUTH AFRICA WAS VERY REAL, AND NELSON REALLY APPRECIATED IT AND MENTIONED IT IN ONE OF HIS SPEECHES ON ONE OF HIS VISITS TO CANADA.
THERE IS A NEW MOVIE JUST TO BE RELEASED ON THE LIFE OF NELSON MANDELA "THE LONG WALK TO FREEDOM." MAKE SURE YOU SEE IT.
THEN FOR A LITTLE INSIGHT INTO THE WISDOM AND FORGIVENESS AND POLITICAL SAVY HE HAD, SEE THE ENTERTAINING MOVIE "INVICTUS" - THE TRUE STORY OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN RUGBY TEAM [WITH MORGAN FREEMON AS MANDELA AND MATT DAMON AS THE TEAM LEADER].
IT'S LATE BUT I'M GOING TO SIT DOWN AND WATCH THIS MOVIE ONCE MORE, AS I REMEMBER THE GREAT NELSON MANDELA.
