Once More VITAMIN Debate

WATCHING  THE  CBC  TV  NEWS  THIS  EVENING,  DEC. 16TH  - THEY  ANNOUNCED  A  REPORT  FROM  THE  USA  SAYING  "DON'T  BOTHER  TAKING  VITAMINS,  WILL  NOT  DO  YOU  ANY  GOOD."

THE  CBC  BROUGHT  ON  THEIR  "RESIDENT  DOCTOR"  AND  ASKED  HIM  ABOUT  IT  ALL.

HE  SAID  THE  PROBLEM  WITH  THE  NEW  STUDY  WAS  THAT  IT  WAS  DONE  WITH  "HEALTHY  PEOPLE" ....  HENCE  NO  LARGE  SHOW  OF  ANYTHING  BY  VITAMIN  TAKING.  SECONDLY  THE  STUDY  WAS  NOT  DONE  WITH  BLOOD  TESTING.

SO  HE  WAS  ASKED  THEN  WHO  MAYBE  SHOULD  BE  TAKING  VITAMINS,  BASIC REPLY  WAS  PEOPLE  WHO  DID  NOT  EAT  VERY  MUCH  OR  NO  MEAT,  SHOULD  THEN  TAKE  VITAMIN  B12 [THAT'S  ME,  SO  I  DO]  POSSIBLY  SOME  PREGNANT  FEMALES,  AND  THEN  SOME  ELDERLY  WHO  WERE  NOT  EATING  A  GOOD  HEALTHY  VARIETY  OF  FOODS.

OVERALL  I  AGREE  WITH  THIS  DOCTOR.

FROM  A  TEENAGER  TO  AGE  40,  I  COULD  EAT  A  GOOD  THREE  MEALS  OF  HEALTHY  FOODS,  AND  HAD  ALL  THE  VARIETIES  OF  WHOLE  GRAINS,  PROTEINS,  FRUITS  AND  VEGETABLES,  AND  CHOCOLATE.   I  NEVER  GAINED  AN  OUNCE  TILL  I  WAS  ABOUT  40.  I  ONLY  TOOK  AT  TIMES  "BEE  POLLEN"  [JUST  AN  ALL  AROUND  SUPER  FOOD]  AND  WHEN  I  COULD  NO  LONGER  OBTAIN  WHOLE  ORGANIC  MILK,  AND  STOPPED  DRINKING MILK,  I  TOOK  A  CALCIUM/MAGNESIUM  TABLET  EACH  DAY.

AFTER  AGE  40  THINGS  CHANGED.  I  STARTED  TO  PUT  ON  WEIGHT.  I  CURBED  EATING  AS  MUCH,  AND  CUT  DOWN  ON  CERTAIN  FOODS,  BUT  DID  NOT  START  TO  TAKES  BUT  A  FEW  MORE  VITAMINS....A  MULTI  VITAMIN  SPECIFICALLY.

AFTER  AGE  60,  I  HAD  TO  CURB  EVEN  MORE  FOOD  INTAKE  AND  CUT  OUT  CERTAIN  FOODS  LIKE  WHOLE  GRAINS,  POTATOES,  ON  ANY  REGULAR  EATING. AND  SO  THE  "STARCHY  FOODS"  IN  THE  MAIN,  TO  KEEP  MY  WEIGHT  UNDER  CONTROL.  HENCE  AFTER  AGE  60  I  NOW  TAKE  MANY  MORE  VITAMINS.

I'VE  BEEN  HAVING  PRETTY  REGULAR  BLOOD  TESTS  FROM  MY  LOCAL  DOCTOR;  SHE  WANTED  TO  SEE  WHAT   MY  BLOOD  HAD  TO  SAY.   SIX  MONTHS  AGO  SHE  SAID  I  NEEDED  TO  TAKE  MORE  VITAMIN  "D"  AS  IT  WAS  LOW,  AND A  FEW  MORE  FOODS  WITH  "IRON"  IN  THEM.

HEALTH  HAS  MORE  TO  DO  THAN  JUST  TAKING  VITAMINS  PER  SE.  YES  OF  COURSE.  IF  YOU  HAVE  GOOD  HEALTH,  VIA  BLOOD  TESTING,  AND  BONE  DENSITY  TESTING [MY  DOCTOR  SENDS  ME  ONCE  A  YEAR  FOR  BONE  DENSITY  TESTING],  IF  YOUR  WEIGHT  IS  WITHIN  YOUR  RANGE,  AND  YOU  EXERCISE  REGULARLY,  IN  VARIOUS  WAYS,  GET  7  TO  8  HOURS  SLEEP  DAILY,  HAVE  LITTLE  OR  NO  STRESS,  IF  YOU  CAN  EAT  ALL  THE  GOOD  HEALTHY  VARIETIES  OF  FOODS,  INCLUDING  WHOLE  GRAINS [CONTRARY  TO  SOME  WHO  SAY  DO  NOT],   ORGANIC  MILK,  AND  ORGANIC  MEAT [ORGANIC  AS  MUCH  AS  YOU  CAN  WITHIN  YOUR  INCOME,  OR  HAVING  YOUR  OWN  ORGANIC  GARDEN],  YOU  WILL  NOT  NEED  TO  TAKE  MANY  VITAMINS  AT  ALL,  IF  ANY.  AGAIN  I  WOULD  TAKE  SOME  TIMES  UP  TO  AGE  40. [NOT  EVERY  DAY]  "BEE  POLLEN"  BECAUSE  IT  IS  A  NATURAL  SUPER  FOOD.

IF  YOUR  BODY  METABOLISM   CHANGES  AS  MINE  DID  AT  ABOUT  AGE  40  AND AGAIN  AT  AGE  60,  AND  YOU  HAVE  TO  REDUCE  GENERAL  FOOD  INTAKE,  AND  SOME  HARDLY  EVER [AS  I  NOW  HAVE  TO  DO]   THEN  AS  I  DO,  YOU  NEED  TO  TAKE  MORE  VITAMIN  SUPPLEMENTS.

SO  THE  BLANKET  STATEMENT  "DON'T  TAKE  ANY  VITAMIN  SUPPLEMENTS"  FROM  THE  USA  STUDY,  IS  JUST  NOT  COVERING  THE  SUBJECT  CORRECTLY  AT ALL.  THE  CBC  "DOCTOR"  COVERED  IT  IN  A  MUCH  MORE  CORRECT  WAY.
