WISDOM FOR THE WEEK
PROVERBS
CHAPTER 6
Pursue Wisdom
My son, if you become surety for your friend, you have shaken hands in pledge for a stranger,
2 You are snared by the words of your mouth; You are taken by the words of your mouth.
3 So do this, my son, and deliver yourself; For you have come into the hand of your friend: Go and humble yourself; Plead with your friend.
4 Give no sleep to your eyes, Nor slumber to your eyelids.
5 Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, and like a bird from the hand of the fowler.
6 Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise,
7 Which, having no captain, overseer or ruler,
8 Provides her supplies in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.
9 How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep—
11 So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler, and your need like an armed man.
12 A worthless person, a wicked man, walks with a perverse mouth;
13 He winks with his eyes, he shuffles his feet, he points with his fingers;
14 Perversity is in his heart, he devises evil continually, he sows discord.
15 Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly; suddenly he shall be broken without remedy.
……
From the New KJV Study Bible
6:1-5 Do not hastily commit yourself to another's debt for fear of appearing unkind. Appearances count for little when the creditors of your friend come to the door.
6:9-5 Do not worry about saving face, but make every effort to get out of the arrangement.
6:6-11 The dangers of laziness.
6:6-8 The ant, a diligent worker and provider, is a model for the sluggard to observe.
6:9-11 Poverty is not avoided by chance. It must be diligently guarded against, as against a prowler or an armed man.
6:12-15 worthless person: A troublemaker who uses all kinds of subtle, deceitful methods to sow discord. In God's providence such a person is certain to face calamity, winks:
See note on 10:10.
……
SURETY….SIGNING FOR A PERSON’S DEBT IS NOT RECOMMENDED BY GOD’S WORD. THERE MAYBE SITUATIONS WHERE IT MAY WORK IF DRAWN UP IN SPECIFIC WAYS, WHERE YOU WILL NOT BE TIED TO THE DOCK IF THE TIDE COMES TO COVER YOU OVER….. WHAT WAY THAT WOULD BE IN BLACK AND WHITE I HAVE NO IDEA. LAZINESS IS NOT THE WAY TO LIVE IF YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD. THOUGH I AM 75 COME SEPTEMBER 11 - 2017, I STILL HAVE 2 PART TIME JOBS, AND CONTINUE TO BE BUSY DOING THE LORD’S WORK ON THIS WEBSITE AND MY BLOG, AND IN EMAILS. THE SUBTLE DECEITFUL PERSON WHO SOWS DISCORD, WILL REAP WHAT THEY SOW, AS WE ALL SHALL IN THE END.

16 These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
17 A proud look, and a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil,
19 A false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren.
......
THERE ARE OTHER THINGS ALSO THAT ARE AN ABOMINATION TO GOD, NOT JUST 7; HERE WE HAVE SEVEN, BUT IT DOES NOT SAY "THESE ONLY ARE AN ABOMINATION TO GOD." USING SAY STRONG'S CONCORDANCE OF THE BIBLE, YOU CAN SOON FIND WHAT OTHER EVILS GOD HATES.
Keith Hunt
......
From the New KJV Study Bible
6:16-19 These seven ... abominations expand upon the description of the troublemaker of vv. 12-15. They are sins of both action and attitude (v. 12); they involve private life and public evil (v. 18).
6:16 six ... seven: See Job 5:19 and note.
6:19 A second warning against one who sows discord (see v. 14).
......
INDEED SERMONS COULD BE BROUGHT ON ALL 7 OF THESE ABOMINATIONS THAT GOD HATES.
PROUDNESS HAVE BROUGHT MANY TO THEIR DEMISE AND IN THE CONTEXT OF CHRISTIANITY, IT HAS AT TIMES PERVERTED THE MIND OF MANY CHRISTIAN LEADERS, INTO FANATICISM, WRONG TEACHINGS, AND OFTEN TURNING THEIR CHURCH INTO A CULT. THE OTHER 6, IF MEDITATING UPON THEM, YOU WILL SEE THE CONSEQUENCES THEY WOULD BRING TO A NATION. THE 7TH, SOWING DISCORD AMONG BRETHREN; MANY MAY BE SURPRISED GOD THINKS THIS AN ABOMINATION, BUT BEING A "BUSY-BODY" - "TALE-BEARER" AND ONE THAT CAUSES CONTINUAL STRIFE AMONG BRETHREN DISTURBS WITH FRICTION, MANY PEOPLE WITH NO GOOD REASON; SOMETIMES BRETHREN HAVE TO BE DISTURB BUT ONLY FOR A VERY GOOD REASON, IF IT IS NOT, GOD HATES PEOPLE WHO BRING DISCORD -

20 My son, keep your father's command, and do not forsake the law of your mother.
21 Bind them continually upon your heart; tie them around your neck.
22 When you roam, they will lead you; when you sleep, they will keep you; and when you awake, they will speak with you.
23 For the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light;

WE ARE NATURALLY DEDUCING HERE THAT BOTH PARENTS ARE FOLLOWING THE RIGHT GODLY PATH; HENCE CHILDREN SHOULD LISTEN TO THEM. FOR IT WILL BE YOUR SAFE-GUARD IN YOUR LIFE, A LIGHT TO LIVING GOOD AND SAFE FROM SINS THAT CAN DESTROY A PERSON. I WAS BLESSED INDEED THAT MY PARENTS SENT ME TO A CHURCH OF ENGLAND SCHOOL, THE THE BIBLE WAS THE FIRST 1/2 HOUR CLASS OF EACH SCHOOL DAY; THE WAY OF THE LORD KEPT ME FROM MANY EVILS AS A TEENAGER - Keith Hunt

reproofs of instruction are the way of life,
24 To keep you from the evil woman, From the flattering tongue of a seductress.
25 Do not lust after her beauty in your heart, Nor let her allure you with her eyelids.
26 For by means of a harlot a man is reduced to a crust of bread; and an adulteress will prey
upon his precious life.
27 Can a man take fire to his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
28 Can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be seared?
29 So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife; whoever touches her shall not be innocent.
......
HERE WE GO BACK TO THE END RESULT THAT ADULTERY AND SLEEPING AROUND WITH PROSTITUTES, AND/OR LOOSE SEXUALITY CAN BRING. FEW THAT LIVE THAT WAY ARE FREE FROM THE SCARS IT CAN BRING.
Keith Hunt
......
30 People do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy himself when he is starving.
31 Yet when he is found, he must restore sevenfold; he may have to give up all the substance of his house.
......
FOR WHATEVER REASON WE ARE GIVEN A FEW VERSES IN THE MIDDLE OF VERSES TO DO WITH SEXUALITY. I LEAVE THE READER TO PONDER IF THERE IS A LESSON.
STARVATION AND TAKING THINGS TO EAT IS ACCEPTED BY MOST COUNTRIES AND PEOPLE; BUT STEALING FOR ANY OTHER REASON IS NOT TOLERATED BY MOST NATIONS, AND THERE IS A PENALTY TO PAY...... SO STEALING, EMBEZZLEMENT, FRAUD, GOD DECLARES A STRONG PENALTY.....EVEN A REPAYMENT OF 7 FOLD, WHICH COULD COST THE PERPETRATOR ALL THAT HE HAS.
Keith Hunt
......
32 Whoever commits adultery with woman lacks understanding; he who does so destroys his own soul.
33 Wounds and dishonor he will get, And his reproach will not be wiped away.
34 For jealousy is a husband's fury; therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
35 He will accept no recompense, nor will he be appeased though you give many gifts.
......
A YOUNG WORLD ACE GOLF PLAYER, FAMOUS, TOP OF THE PACK IN HIS YOUTHFUL DAY, WENT SECRETLY TO LOS VAGUS, TO GAMBLE AND HAVE SEX WITH LOOSE WOMEN AND PROSTITUTES. HIS SECRET FINALLY CAME OUT; HE HAD TO ADMIT TO HIS WIFE, HIS PARENTS, AND THE WORLD, HIS SEXUAL SINS. HIS WIFE DIVORCED HIM, HIS PARENTS WERE ASHAMED OF HIM, THE WORLD WAS STUNNED BY HIS DECEPTION [THE WORLD THOUGHT HE WAS A ROLE MODEL FOR CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS]. HE LOST HIS SKILL AS THE NUMBER ONE PRO GOLF PLAYER, AND WENT DOWN HILL IN THE SPORT.
COMMITTING ADULTERY CAN ALSO HAVE AT TIMES DIRE CONSEQUENCES..... SOME WILL NEVER FORGET; SOME HUSBANDS WILL KILL THE OFFENDER - CALLED "CRIMES OF PASSION." THERE WAS A TIME WHEN BEING A HORSE STEALER GOT YOU HUNG. I'M NOT SAYING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SO, BUT IT WAS OFTEN SO WHEN STEALING A MAN'S HORSE WAS LIKE TAKING AWAY HIS LEGS OR ARMS.
THIS IS A SECTION OF PROVERBS ABOUT SEXUALITY, AND THE TROUBLES IT CAN BRING YOU.
TO THE MODERN WORLD OF "THROW GOD AND THE BIBLE OUT THE WINDOW" THIS SECTION ON SEXUALITY WILL SEEM LIKE A LOST BY-GONE AGE, AND NOT MUCH RELEVANT TO A 21ST CENTURY SOCIETY. BUT AS THAT YOUNG FAMOUS PRO GOLFER FOUND OUT, IT DID COST HIM A GREAT DEAL.
Keith Hunt
From the New KJV Study Bible
6:20-23 Observing both a good father's command and the law of a loving mother will keep us from many an evil. Proverbs recognizes a parent's command and law as the command and law of God.
6:24-29 The inescapable results of adultery.
6:25 eyelids: Seductive glances.
6:26 The contrast emphasizes the utter devastation an adulteress brings into a man's life. Compared to the
confusion a harlot creates, an adulteress consumes the very life of her victim.
6:30-35 A thief will have to pay dearly to assuage the anger of the householder he has robbed. But who can satisfy the one; who has been robbed of a spouse through adultery?
6:32 A person who commits adultery lacks understanding about the inevitable personal, spiritual, psychological, social, and physical results.
