HERE'S ANOTHER EPISODE OF A LONG SERIES I DID A WHILE BACK [DID ABOUT 36 EPISODES] ON BLACK AMERICAN HISTORY.
I BOUGHT THE DVD CALLED "THE JESSE OWENS STORY" MANY YEARS AGO.
THE MOVIE WAS MADE IN 1984 - FOUR YEARS AFTER JESSE DIED AT AGE 66.
I'VE NOT WATCHED THIS MOVIE FOR A DECADE OR MORE; FORGOTTEN 99 PERCENT OF IT.
WOW!!! WHAT A GREAT INSPIRATIONAL MOVIE IT IS ABOUT A BLACK TRACK ATHLETE MAN THAT ADDED MADNESS TO AN ALL READY MAD MAN - HITLER - DURING THE 1936 OLYMPICS; WINNING FOUR GOLD MEDALS.
THIS MOVIE SHOULD BE MADE MANDATORY TO BE SEEN BY ALL HIGH SCHOOL KIDS; IT SHOULD BE PART OF THEIR SOCIAL STUDIES; CERTAINLY PART OF "AMERICAN BLACK HISTORY" THAT I BELIEVE SHOULD ALSO BE A MANDATORY COURSE FOR ALL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.
ON THE BACK OF THE DVD COVER WE READ:
"This Emmy Award-winning drama tells the story of Jesse Owens' Olympic triumph. As the shadow of war hung over the entire world, Nazi Germany celebrated its role as host of the 1936 Olympic Games in the capital city of Berlin. Adolf Hitler finally had a stage to showcase the superiority of his "master race." But during the course of one week, Jesse Owens (Dorian Harewood), the African-American son of a sharecropper and the grandson of slaves, would deliver a performance that shocked the Nazi and gave hope to people around the world.
Almost twenty-five years later, President George Bush Sr. posthumously awarded Owens the Congressional Medal of Honor, calling his Olympic victories "an unrivaled athletic triumph, but more than that, a triumph for all humanity."
THIS MOVIE IS ABOUT MUCH MORE THAN THE 1936 OLYMPIC GAMES IN BERLIN; IT IS ABOUT THE MAN HIMSELF AND ALL THAT HE DID IN HIS LIFE TO SERVE OTHERS, EVEN WHEN SEGREGATION AND THE RACE PROBLEM IN AMERICA WAS IN FULL SWING.
IT'S A MOVIE AND LIFE STORY OF GIVING BACK TO OTHERS WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN.
AS JESSE HIMSELF SAID, "I'M NOT A MARCHING MAN; I'M NOT A MARTIN LUTHER KING." BUT HE DID WHAT HE COULD IN HIS WAYS TO MAKE AMERICA AND ITS YOUTH A BETTER PLACE FOR ALL PEOPLE.
THIS IS AN INSPIRING TRUE STORY, HOPEFULLY BY ALL THAT VIEW IT, AN INSPIRATION TO DO BETTER, TO DO GOOD, TO GIVE BACK, OR AS THE MODERN PHRASE IS NOW "PAY IT FORWARD."
THERE IS A LITTLE ALSO ABOUT THE GREAT HARLAM GLOBETROTTERS BASKETBALL TEAM, AND THE MAN WHO FOUNDED THEM; YOU'LL SEE THE ASTONISHING DROP KICK FROM THE HALF-WAY LINE INTO THE NET [WHICH ONE OF THEM DID WHEN THEY CAME TO THE CANADIAN TOWN I WAS LIVING IN, IN 1962]
YOU REALLY DO NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE; PUT IT ON YOUR LIST OF MOVIES TO WATCH, TRUE LIFE MOVIES THAT WILL INSPIRE.
YES ONE OF THE GREAT BLACK MEN IN AMERICAN HISTORY.
