WHEN EVENING IS PART OF THE PREVIOUS DAY———
In the beginning [Genesis one] we clearly see God begins His days in the evening!
That is the norm; 99.9 percent in the Bible “evening” is the start of the day, the start of a new day.
God expects His children to be reading ALL His word; as Jesus taught, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God” [Mat. 4:4].
This means you do not just casually read God’s word; you study it! As Paul was inspired to tell us— “Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not be ashamed, rightly putting together the word of truth” [my paraphrase— 2 Timothy 2: 15].
Why is this important? It’s important because God has basic norms; then as if out of the blue He throws you a curve ball—— it comes with no warning, it is just there— wam-swish—— you may swing, but if not careful you miss. Worst still you are led off into a false doctrine; many false doctrines are built upon a false premise, i.e. “Take care till I see you again, maybe see you not till we’re in heaven, after death.” Such a popular type of talk, but such talk among God’s people in the Bible cannot be found, not even once.
So it is with “evening”—— now and again it is used as part of the previous day!
Here it is in the New Testament——
“THEN THE SAME DAY AT EVENING, BEING THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK…” [JOHN 20: 19].
Here evening is part of the first day.
NO warning that we are in Roman time— midnight to midnight time; we are just there period.
I have proved in another study that the use of “evening” in the New Testament ALWAYS means AFTER 6 pm.
Now turn to ACTS 20. Verse 7, 8— “And upon the first of the week….. Paul preached unto them….continued his speech until midnight….many lights in the upper chamber….
So this could be SATURDAY NIGHT till midnight, departing on Sunday morning.
It could be SUNDAY NIGHT till midnight, departing Monday morning.
Depending if the author of Acts was using Jewish time or Roman time.
Jewish time would be Saturday evening, the beginning of the first day— Paul preached till midnight.
Roman time would be Sunday evening preaching till midnight.
Either way could be correct; the author simply did not think it important enough to tell us if Jewish or Roman time was being used. The main points was Paul preached till midnight, and the young man falling dead was brought back to life.
THE OLD TESTAMENT USE
This curve ball is thrown at us with no warning it’s comin, it is just there!
EXODUS 12
Up to verse 14 it is the 14th day Passover talked about, then starting in verse 15—
“Seven days shall you eat un-leavened bread….And the first day there shall be a holy convocation, in the seventh day there shall be a holy convocation to you….”
Any Bible scholar worth his salt knows from other verses and from Jewish history practice, there are 7 days belonging to the Feast of Un-leavened Bread. The 15th day to the 21st day of the first month in God’s calendar.
There was to be no leaven in the Israelite homes from the 15 to 21— a period of 7 days; the 1st and 7th days being Sabbath days.
This is again spelled out to us in Deuteronomy 16.
I have expounded Deut. 16 in another study, as some get mixed up on this section of the Passover and Feast of UN-leavened Bread.
BACK TO EXODUS 12
“In the first month on the fourteenth day of the month at even, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even. Seven days there shall be no leaven found in your houses…..ye shall eat nothing leavened: in all your habitation shall you eat un-leavened bread” [verses 18-20].
Verses 15 to 20 is all to do with the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
7 days, not 8 days— 7 days long is the Feast of Un-leavened Breads. It is a separate Feast from Passover. The Passover Feast is the 14th [verses 6-14]. It was a separate Feast unto itself. Unleavened bread was to be eaten with the Passover, but the 14th day was not an un-leavened bread day; the Passover was with un-leavened bread, but the day was not a day of cleaning out leaven from the home. You would stop eating leaven breads by the 15th day, and would clean out the leaven by the 15th. It would not have been hard or long for Israelites to put out leaven. They had no fridges, toasters, and etc. to clean. It really should not be that long to put away leaven out of our homes today. God never said the Israelites had to clean their homes from top to bottom, every nook and cranny. That came about from Jewish traditions, that made it way way more than just putting leavened bread out of the home.
Got a little side-tracked; back to verse 18.
We are in the Feast of Un-leavened Bread; on the 14th day AT EVEN began the eating for 7 days un-leavened bread. Here the evening of the 14th is part of the 14th day!
The Romans and others got midnight to midnight for days FROM the EGYPTIANS!
HERE GOD THROWS IN, WITH NO WARNING, THE EVENING AS PART OF THE PRECEDING DAY— THE 14TH. A CURVE BALL OF TIME, THE EGYPT TIME WHERE THE 14TH GOES TO MIDNIGHT!
YET GOD ENDS THE FEAST OF SEVEN DAYS OF UNLEAVENED BREAD WITH EVENING OF THE 21ST DAY—— WHEN EVENING CAME TO START A NEW DAY OF THE 22ND, WITH THE NORM OF DAYS AS GOD GIVES THE NORM IN GENESIS ONE.
YES, GOD DOES USE AT TIMES, CURVE BALLS AMONG THE MAJORITY OF STRAIGHT FAST BALLS, IN HIS WORD.
YOU HAVE TO GET THE BASIC TRUTH FROM THE NORMAL STRAIGHT FAST BALLS, SO YOU ARE NOT THROWN OUT BY THE NOW AND AGAIN CURVE BALLS. YOU HAVE TO BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR CURVE BALLS IN GOD’S WORD.
THE STRAIGHT FAST BALLS TELL US THE PASSOVER IS IN THE 14TH DAY, THE EVENING AND NIGHT OF THE 14TH. UNLEAVENED BREAD WAS TO BE EATEN WITH THE PASSOVER, BUT THE 14TH WAS NOT A DAY OF UNLEAVENED BREAD PER SE. IF SO THEN THERE WOULD BE 8 DAYS OF NO LEAVEN IN YOUR HOME. AND THAT IDEA IS BLOWN OUT OF THE PARK BY MANY OTHER PASSAGES IN THE BIBLE.
THE FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD IS 7 DAYS NOT 8.
THOSE SEVEN DAYS BEGIN AT THE END OF THE 14TH, AT EVEN, WITH GOD’S BEGINNING OF DAYS [GENESIS ONE]. OR IN THE EVENING OF THE 14TH DAY IF USING EGYPTIAN AND ROMAN TIME, DAYS MIDNIGHT TO MIDNIGHT.
THE UNLEAVENED BREAD FEAST ENDS AT THE EVENING END TIME OF THE 21ST - SUNSET.
HENCE IT IS A FULL 7 DAYS FOR THE FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD—- THE BEGINNING OF THE 15TH [SUNSET - EVENING OF THE 15TH, TO THE END OF THE 21ST DAY, EVENING ARRIVED—— A FULL 7 DAYS.
PASSOVER IS THE 14TH, BEGINNING TIME IN THE EVENING, THROUGH THE NIGHT, A NIGHT INDEED TO BE VERY MUCH OBSERVED.
UNLEAVENED BREAD OF 7 DAYS STARTS IN THE EVENING OF THE 14TH IF USING EGYPTIAN AND ROMAN TIME, AND ENDS AT THE END OF THE 21ST, WHEN AN EVENING ARRIVES ONCE MORE.
