I was asked the question "Why did Holly make an error with "the soon" coming of Christ?"
It is an error on a number of sides.
For 50 years now, since I was 20 years old, I've heard personally and in writings from "fundamental" Protestants, using this term "soon coming." From experience I know they do not mean 30 years, or even 20 years, and most do not even mean 10 years. You have to rub shoulders with these Protestant fundamental people to realize, first they have no clue about Bible prophecy, hence the coming of Christ "soon" to them means either any second (the "rapture" people) or within the next 10 years.
Holly is part of the writing team for "Thy Kingdom Come" magazine, published by a British Israel group called "The Association of the Covenant People" out of Burnaby B.C. Canada.
While they have the truth of who is Israel today (all 13 tribes) their lack of correct understanding of Bible prophecy is just about zero.
The editor is a fellow who has for years now, each year, set dates concerning the end of this age. And he's NEVER gone beyond 2020! And he's never been correct!
So Holly is influenced by him and the circle goes unbroken, around and around it goes, as it has done with all of fundamental Christians for the last 50 years. In the 1980s the fundamental guys and gals really got on the bandwagon and books were written that Jesus would return by 1988 - 40 years from the founding of the State of Israel. They all had their reasons for 40 years.... all proved wrong! And so it came and went. Then some got on the bandwagon that Jesus would return before the year 2,000. The British Israel groups with their silly ideas of the Great Pyramid. Others with Notradamis (not sure how to spell his name but you'll know who I mean), and how he was supposed to say the year 2,000 was the end. The "oil crisis" at times had some of them writing this was it, the end in sight, Armageddon was near, Jesus would be back SOON!!!
You had in the last 5 or 6 years, because of the world economic downfall, the fundamental guys writing more books ( I mean they have to keep writing books so people will buy them and they can bring in money, so they can ride in their BMW cars etc.). And for them the signs of economic trouble means Armageddon is around the corner and Jesus will return. The fundamental guys who teach the
"rapture" well their "soon" is any second.
I'm telling you frankly this is how they think, this supports their book writing. So this does not happen, so they write another book, and on it goes, until like Hal Linsey (from the 1908s) they make enough of a fool of themselves, they disappear into the sunset, but still riding in their BMW.
Yep I'm being sarcastic towards them ..... read a modern version of Paul's writings and see how sarcastic he got towards false prophets and teachers at times.
Jesus gave SIGNS to watch for, but most have not a clue what those signs are, so they continue in their false notions, date setting, and "soon" coming, which again I tell they means before 2020.
The "soon" for the fundamental Protestants is always within the next 8 to 10 years, they just shift it along as the years tick off. Of course they will be correct ONE day. But then as they do not know the signs they will shocked to find they are either part of the Beast power, dead, or in captivity to their enemies, and they will still be waiting for Jesus to return. And if they have not REPENTED of their false theology and sins, they will be on the outside of the Kingdom looking in when He does return.
