CAT Crazed!!

The CBC "Doc Zone" on Thursday evenings had a very interesting and educational program on CATS tonight. It's cbc.ca/doczone

Did you know there are 50 MILLION cats in North America - just let loose and/or born wild.

Cats are now most popular "pet animal."

But people seem to abandon them at the drop of a hat.

Outdoor living cats have about a 3 year life, as opposed to "pet cats" looked after (not given to the wild) of 12-16 years of life. My cat lived to be 17.

And despite groups who feed them as a colony of cats....they do not forget their hunting instinct, hence the bird lovers enter the ring, to make battle with the cat lovers.

Yes there is groups who round-up the outdoor cats and spade and neuter them, but it is NOT the full answer.

Calgary where I am, brought in a bylaw that cats have to be licensed just like a dog, with a collar and name/phone number tag or implant. They get lost like a dog they are found and returned to the owner. THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL IN EVERY WAY - the shelter for cats half full, less and less casts having to be put down.

It is a Calgary city work that has taught responsibility to cat owners, and that is the key to the whole problem of 50 Million cats running wild in North America.

CAT OWNERS NEED TO BE RESPONSIBLE JUST AS DOG OWNERS HAVE BEEN TAUGHT TO BE RESPONSIBLE.

And I speak as one who has had a cat and dog - they should be thought of as part of your family.

So if you are a lover of cats, if you are an owner of a cat/s - you need to see that program about "cat crazed" on cbc.ca/doczone

MAKE SURE YOU ARE PART OF THE SOLUTION NOT THE PROBLEM.
