WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ON...Adultery/Fornication #2

FORBIDDEN:

Ex. 20:14. Thou shaft not commit adultery. Dent. 5:18; Matt.

 5:27;  19: 18; Luke l8:20; Rom. 13:9; Jas. 2-11.

Lev. 18:20. Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy

neighbour's wife, to defile thyself with her.

Lev. 1959. Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a

whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full

 of wickedness.

Deut. 23:17. There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel,

nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.

Acts 15:20. We write unto them, that they abstain from

 fornication.

Rom. 13:13. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and

drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness.

1 Cor. 5:11. I have written unto you not to keep company, if any

man that is called a brother be a fornicator, . . . with such an one

no not to eat.    vs. 9,10.

1 Cor. 6:13. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord;

and the Lord for the body. 15. Know ye not that your bodies are

the members, of Christ ? shall l then take the members of Christ,

and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. 18. Flee

fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but

he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

1 Cor. 10:8. Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them

committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

Eph. 4:17. This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye

henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their

mind; 19. Who, being past feeling, have given themselves over

unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20.

But ye have not so learned Christ.

Eph. 5:3. But fornication, and all uncleanness, let it not be once

named among you, as becometh saints; 11. Have no fellowship

with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

12. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done

 of them in secret.

Col. 3:5. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the

earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil

 concupiscence.

1 Thes. 4:3. This is the will of God, even your sanctification, that

ye should abstain from fornication: 4. That every one of you

should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and

honour; 5. Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles

which know not God: 7. For God hath not called us unto

 uncleanness., but unto holiness.

FORGIVENESS OF: Instances of. Judg. 19:1-4.

John 8:10. Woman, where are those thine accusers ? hath no man

condemned thee ? 11. She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said

unto her, Neither do I condemn, thee: go, and sin no more.

PENALTIES FOR:

Gen. 20:7. Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a

prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if

thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die. thou,

 and all that are thine.

Gen. 26:11. And Abimelech charged all his people, saying. He

that toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death.

Gen. 88:24. And it came to pass about three months after, that it

was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played

the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And

Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.

Ex. 22:16. And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and

lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife. 17. If her

father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money

according to the dowry of virgins.

Lev. 19:20. And whosoever lieth carnally with awoman, that is a

bondmaid, betrothed to a husband, and not at all redeemed, nor

freedom given her; she shall be scourged: they shall not be put to

death, because she was not free. 21. And he shall bring his

trespass offering unto the Lord, unto the door of the tabernacle of

the congregation, even a ram for-a trespass offering. 22. And the

priest shall make an atonement for him with the ram of the

 trespass offering before the Lord for his sin which he hath done;

and the sin which he hath done shall be forgiven him.

Lev. 20:10. And the man that committeth adultery with another

man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's

wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

 11. And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered

 his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death;

their blood shall be upon them. 12. And if a man lie with his

daughter in law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they

have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them.

Lev. 21:9. And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself

by playing the whore, she profaneth her father: she shall be burnt

 with fire.

Num. 5:11. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 12. Speak

 unto the children of Israel, and say unto them. If any man's wife;

go aside, and commit a trespass against him, 13. And a man lie

with her carnally, and it be hid from the eyes of her husband, and

be kept close, and she be defiled, and there be no witness against

her, neither she be taken with the manner, 14.  And the spirit of

jealousy come upon him. and he be jealous of his wife, and she

be defiled: or if the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be

jealous of his wife, and she be not defiled:

15 Then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest, and he shall

bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an ephah of barley

meal; he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankincense thereon:

for it is an offering of jealousy, an offering of memorial, bringing

iniquity to remembrance. 16. And the priest shall bring her near,

and set her before the Lord : 17. And the priest shall take holy

water in an earthen vessel; and of the dust that is in the floor of

the tabernacle the priest shall take, and put it into the water: 18.

And the priest shall set the woman before the Lord, and uncover

the woman's head, and put the offering of memorial in her hands,

which is the jealousy offering: and the priest shall have in his

hand the bitter water that causeth the curse. 19. And the priest

shall charge her by an oath, and say unto the woman, If no man

have lain with thee, and if thou hast not gone aside to

uncleanness with another instead of thy husband, be thou free

from this bitter water that causeth the curse: 20. But if thou hast

gone aside to another instead of thy husband, and if thou be

defiled, and some man have lain with thee beside thine husband:

 21. Then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of

cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman. The Lord make

thee a curse and an oath among thy people, when the Lord doth

make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to swell: 22. And this water

that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels, to make thy belly

to swell, and thy thigh to rot. And the woman shall say, Amen,

Amen. 23. And the priest shall write these curses in a book, and

he shall blot them out with the bitter water: 24. And he shall

cause the woman to drink the bitter water that causeth the curse:

and the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and

become bitter. 25. Then the priest shall take the jealousy offering

out of the woman's hand, and shall wave the offering before the

Lord, and offer it upon the altar: 26. And the priest shall take a

handful of the offering, even the memorial thereof, and burn it

upon the altar, and afterward shall cause the woman to drink, the

water. 27. And when he hath made her to drink the water, then it

shall come to pass, that if she be defiled, and have done trespass

against her husband, that the water that causeth the curse shall

enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell and

her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her

people. 28. And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then

she shall be free, and shall conceive seed. 29. This is the law of

jealousies, when a wife goeth aside to another instead of her

husband, and is defiled; 30. Or when the spirit of jealousy cometh

upon him, and he be jealous over his wife, and shall set the

woman before the Lord, and the priest shall execute upon her all

 this law.

Deut. 22:13. If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate

her, 14. And give occasion of speech against her, and bring up an

evil name upon her, and say, I took this woman, and when I came

to her, I found her not a maid: 15. Then shall the father of the

damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the

damsel's virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate: 16. And

the damsel's father shall say unto the elders. I gave my daughter

unto this man to wife, and he hateth her; 17. And, lo, he hath

given occasions of speech against her, saying, I found not thy

daughter a maid; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter's

virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the

city. 18. And the elders of that city shall take that man and

chastise him; 19. And they shall amerce him in a hundred shekels

of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he

hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she

shall be his wife: he may not put her away all his days. 20. But if

this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the

damsel: 21. Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of

her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with

stones that she die; because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to

play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away

from among you. 22. If a man be found lying with a woman

married to a husband, then they shall both of them die, both the

man that lay with, the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put

away evil from Israel: 23. If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed

 unto a husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;

 24. Then ye. shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city,

and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel,

because she cried hot, being in the city; and the man, because he

hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt-put away evil

from among you. 25. But if a man find, a betrothed damsel in the

field, and the man force her, and lie with her; then the man only

that lay with her shall die: 26. But unto the damsel thou shalt do

nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as

when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even

so is this matter: 27. For he found her in the field, and the

betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her. 28. If a

man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay

hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; 29. Then the

man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty

shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath

humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.

Deut. 27:20. Cursed be he that lieth with his father's wife: because

he uncovereth his father's skirt: and all the people shall say,

Amen. 22. Cursed be he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of

his father, or the daughter of his mother: and all the people shall

say, Amen. 23. Cursed be be that lieth with his mother-in-law:

and all the people shall say, Amen.

2 Sam. 12:10. Now therefore the sword shall never depart from

thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the

wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. 11. Thus saith the Lord,

Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house,

and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto

thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this

sun. 12. For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before

all Israel, and before the sun.

Jer. 29:22. The Lord make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab,

whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire; 23. Because they

have committed villany in Israel, and have committed adultery

with their neighbours' wives, and have spoken lying words in my

name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a

 witness, saith the Lord.

Ezek. 16:38. And I will judge thee as women that break wedlock

and shed blood are judged: 40. They shall also bring up a

company against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and

thrust thee through with their swords. 41. And they shall burn

thine houses with fire, and execute judgments upon thee in the

sight of many women: and I will cause thee to cease from playing

the harlot, and thou also shalt give no hire any more.

Some of these laws obviously applied when Israel was a nation

under God, with a priesthood, and when God would work

miracles to find the guilty or non-guilty. The death penalty was

over some sexual sins, but we need to remember that real

repentance (as David showed when he committed adultery with

Bathsheba) could have the death penalty stopped - Keith Hunt
