So President Obama wants to have a Pacific rim trading union - China, Japan, USA, Canada, Mexico and maybe whoever else is interested.
Welllll.....yes I guess if he can figure out a strategy for those nations to trade with each other, it could he hopes be a way to create jobs and boost the economic power of those nations. Naturally he's thinking how it would get the USA out of its economic and employment troubles.
Germany is the powerhouse of Europe, but now that country is having its problems. In the year 2000 you had a middle class wealth of people that was 60 percent. Now it is 50 percent and heading lower and a larger two class system is emerging - the rich and the poor. Many in the middle class and doing well a few years back, are now having to send their children to the "soup kitchen" for meals. And hence the German population is not as eager to help other nations in Europe like Italy and Greece.
Yep some restructuring going to take place in Europe over the next number of years.
South Korea, famous for its high standard of education with 80 percent leaving High School go on to University. But one huge problem, when they are done with University there is not the jobs for all those "higher educated" young people. Now the Government is on a course to encourage trade schools - ya those blue collar jobs that are so needed in our modern world, but it seems until now, most South Korean kids were passing by to go to get that certificate from University that they can hang on the wall in some fancy frame, but then go wash dishes in some restaurant, or drive taxi, or be a delivery boy for some Pizza place or the equivalent for South Korea. Yesssss.......after a while some in politics sees the hand-writing on the wall. Some of the kids are wising up also, and deciding they want a hands on trade instead of some certificate from some University.
I'm thinking more grade 10 students in North America should be wising up to the same facts. I mean we still need plumbers, motor mechanics, electricians, carpenters, welders, and etc...... well I think we still need those trades, but if the North American economy does not pick up, even those kinds of jobs are going to be less than before 2008.
So Italy and Greece have the old leaders resigned and they hope new Governments that can somehow pull the bunny out of the hat and stop the hemorrhaging of the Europe Unity power - we shall see what time tells us.
The Ivory Coast still has not by any means solved its child labor harvesting the coco bean for the chocolate companies of the West. 10 years ago there was a move to start to eradicate that child labor, but the latest is that not much has changed ..... they have opened up more schools, but the kids go to work as well. Some children are sent to the harvest plants as far away as 200 miles. So the chocolate company groups put on a brave and positive face and admit more needs to be done about the situation. Hummmm.....maybe stop making chocolate, or very little, and things may change in a hurry. And besides, us who are addicted to chocolate can kick the habit, and also loose some pounds at the same time. That would be okay, as I like licorice just about as much, so I'd still get my "fix" now and again :-) ...... oh and by the way good molasses licorice has many minerals in it that far too many of us do not get enough of, minerals that is.
