Let's make LOVE - the movie

I've just finished watching the wonderful color movie "Let's make love" - 20th Century Fox - a 1960 film.

It stars the beautiful Marilyn Monroe; Yves Montand from France and the great Franki Vaughan from England; along with appearances by Big Crosby, Jean Kelly; Tony Randall.

FIRST: Marilyn - oh at her best - lovely in looks, great in song and dance, and playing a down to earth helpful gal in the musical entertainment field. It brings out the best in her, no dumb blond personality in this role; and no deliberate sex symbol image. Yes she really did have talent.

There is Yves Montand the French film star, that most in north America know little about, but played his part also extremely well, and ends up with Marilyn.

Frankie Vaughan the Englisman, but no English accent. He does fantastic as a song man. He has that charisma and singing voice that could have made him a Hollywood heart-throb, with his charming smile. It was as far as I know the only Hollywood movie he made, for his wife asked him not to be part of Hollywood, and he respected and loved her enough to agree to go back to England and forget about Hollywood. He said Britain had been very good to him (which it had being greatly popular there) and was quite happy to return and leave Hollywood behind.
I was just a kid watching a variety show of BBC with my Mom. And we were witness to Frankie Vaungh's FIRST TV appearance. Both Mom and I were very impressed. I remember her asking me what I thought of him and his singing. I said he was great, with his sexy big smile. She agreed, and so did much of Britain, being a sensation overnight. This movie shows why he was an immediate hit with the British.

Yes a very enjoyable movie with some vine songs and a good story. Certainly one of Marilyn's best movies. She was just coming into her own as they say by 1960. A sad and sorrowful ended to her life so young and beginning to show her talent at acting and song. And Frankie Vaunghan went on to be one of Britains most popular singing stars.

A nice and fun type movie. If you like musicals you'll love this one - "Let's Make Love."
