J. Edger Hoover -- movie

Recently bought the DVD movie "J. Edger" staring Leonardo Dicaprio (another great work of Leonardo....cannot remember if he was ever won an Oscar award for his acting, but he is one of the best. I seem to remember reading Hollywood kinda shuns him for whatever reasons)

On the back of the DVD case we read:

"Leonardo....stars as J. Edger Hoover, head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for nearly 50 years. Hoover was feared, admired, reviled and revered, a man who could distort the truth as easy as he upheld it. His methods were at once ruthless and heroic, with the admiration of the world his most coveted prizr. But behind closed doors, he held secrets that would have destroyed his image, his career and his life....."

What do I say?  The movie is gripping. I was only going to watch a part of it last night, but could not stop watching it to its end.

Hoover was in many ways a brilliant man, could say even a genius in certain ways. He was the first man to start forensic science in his organization, or just about any police organization anywhere in the world. Yes he had ruthless ways, could lie as easy as breathing, distort truth to his advantage, and had a cultish mind-set against communism and anyone he thought might be a communist. He kept secret files on the famous, did not matter who, even Presidents and/or their wife, which he used to keep himself in power and the fear from some Presidents (some indeed had immoral traits as John F. Kennedy did).

His right hand man was with him all the years he was in power, their relationship was unique in many ways as the movie brings out.

And it is more than interesting that after asking his new secretary (when he and her were young) lady for her hand in marriage, she refused and said she would never marry; BUT she was his very faithful secretary until his death. She was then faithful to do as he requested upon his death.

A many sided man, genius and villain.....but he brought into being things that the USA needed to have to fight crime, much of that crime being grades of perverseness and outrage.

A  MOVIE  FOR  ADULTS  ONLY.  BUT  ONE  YOU  SHOULD  HAVE  ON  YOUR  LIST  OF  REAL  LIFE  MOVIES  YOU  NEED  TO  SEE.  THE  HISTORY  OF  ONE  OF  THE  IMPORTANT  NATIONAL  FIGURES  OF  THE  USA  IN  THE  20TH  CENTURY.
