"THE QUARTET" movie

THIS MOVIE MAY NOT BE IN YOUR AREA, MAYBE LIKE CALGARY, WILL ONLY BE IN CERTAIN MOVIE THEATERS.

It's the first "directing" job by Dustin Hoffman.

Went to see it.

Billed as a "comedy" ..... and  well  in  a  few  spots  and  in  certain  ways  maybe  could  be  classified  as  a  comedy, a few chuckles here and there.

But for me I would say more a "life drama" about old, once upon a time musicians - singers (opera mostly) and musicians on various instruments (again mostly classical), all spending their last days in this beautiful old English countryside mansion, turned into a "retirement home" for musicians only.

They sing, they play their instruments, play card games, walk around the grounds, have a game of crochet, get into spats with each other, and of course you see the odd idiosyncrasy, peculiar traits, quirks, oddity, eccentricity, and of course forgetfulness, that often comes with getting old.
Four of them are brought together again to sing, the quartet..... at the years public charity money concert
- to keep the place going for another year. We have music of various kinds sprinkled throughout the movie. And we have a lost love found again in old age.

It does have some younger people in the movie, could not just have all old folks, but the movie is based on these old musicians of this sort or that sort.

Being a musician myself I found it interesting and charming, and amusing, but it will probably only appeal to the older folk like myself and older musicians.

It was interesting at the curtain call shall we say. It showed those old singers and musicians in the movie, who were indeed in years gone by classical singers and/or musicians. It showed a photo of them when they were young and what they specialized in and who for....opera or orchestras etc.  Wow..... what age does to most people, it is so true that beauty is skin deep, and sooner or later it's gone. I found it quite shocking to see one after the other as they once were when young, in their prime (I guess in their 20s) and ...... well today you'd never know for most of them, that it was the same person, in looks that is.

So for you young good looking guys and gals, remember old grandma and granddad ...... well say no more, beauty is indeed only skin deep and only for so long.

One big lesson from this movie, make your beauty deep within, in your character and personality.
..........
